Hey Hapless, loving the series so far! I'm incredibly busy with school work and this series has been great to take a break from it all, thanks for all your content
The radio was full of screaming men and cries for medical aid. Someone was calling for their mother. The flanking maneuver had, by all accounts, gone poorly. Still laughing, I turned the radio off. There was no need to hear any more. I knew how this was going to go. 2nd Platoon had rolled the dice and learned what every gambler learns too late - the house always wins in the end. What did it matter if this little dusty patch of ground flew a red flag or a red white and blue anyways? Would the rocks care? Would the dust? The birds might. Prison would have been better than this. The food would have been the same, the company similar. At least if someone came to kill me I'd have had a chance to fight back. The remains of Second Squad were falling back, not that there was any cover to fall back to. A primal need to get as far away from these predatory murder boxes drove them. I smiled watching them go. Maybe they had the right idea. I could run. I'd been a good runner in school. I bet I could run so deep into the mountains that these horrible Soviet trucks would never be able to follow me. The image of being chased to the hills like some kind of Saturday morning cartoon made me laugh. It felt good to laugh. It would feel good to run. Why not? No one could say we didn't put up a fight. The Troublemakers made some Trouble in the end. I should run. But my legs wouldn't move. My arms wouldn't move. My head wouldn't move. Blood leaked from the bullet hole in my spine. Despite the baking sun, I felt strangely cold. My legs wouldn't move. My arms wouldn't move. At least I could still laugh. So that's what I did. (RIP lads, hope some of you make it out! This has been the Unfortunate Life and Untimely Death of Private Praetor!)
I kinda like the BRDM-1, it looks like an alligator´s head a bit, I kinda like some of the ATGM variants of it, even if it is definetly An Aesthetic (tm). If you take some suggestions from a severely pinned down pixeltruppen, maybe you can set up some ambush in the airbase entrance on the long side of the airbase´s wall. Since he has run his scouts to the other end he probably assumes it to be unnocupied, so when the following waves come in Luka will probably assume that entrance is unnocuppied
The issue is not even the Dragons because Dragons not hitting is expected. The issue is that 6 LAWs were used at the southern objective and no hits were achieved. Against mostly stationary target. RPGs in this game insanely random.
Knowing how flat of a trajectory the law has within its effective range and then watching this is making me angry at virtual dudes, like is this company of airborne guys all on their first day.
@@JimmyGarry Typically RPGs in combat mission cannot guarantee a first shot hit outside 50 meters. Beyond 150 meters IFVs can practically operate with impunity as long as they can ensure no RPG team can fire twice
This is really tough for the US player with the lack of transport and reliable AT weapons of range. Because you start in the open, you're just caught there and the dragons are just too unreliable to hit. When do those TOWs arrive? I don't think they can get here fast enough before 2nd Platoon and the FO on the hill are destroyed
The airbase south obj is only worth about 1/4 of the total points, so the US player doesn't really need to hold it to win. With the benefit of hindsight trying to rush infantry in the open to capture it knowing the soviets have such massive vehicle superiority was probably a bit greedy.
@@stevee8318 I'd say if the 2nd platoon is even more aggressive it might have worked. Once the Soviet infantry get into the buildings it's practically over. If it was more aggressive my squad would be inside the buildings instead of exposed on the slope.
OK, lorewise the vast majority of TF ridgeway (the other battalions) are doing other things offmap after being parachuted (I also have a feeling CMCW don't have Sheridans)
@ Maybe the platoon is helping out the rest of TF ridgeway fighting angry Iranian revolutionary who are too invested in "down with Americans" or fighting other Soviet elements around the airport
@ba3787 The 82nd had a battalion of m551 so for an object were they knew there was a high probability of facing heavy armor I'd expect they would drop at least a company. They combined airlifted/airdropped a company for the invasion of Panama. One platoon was air dropped onto the objective during the actual assault. The only time a tank has been dropped into combat in history. Like I said that was in Panama against an enemy that had no tanks and little anti armor capability. I think assigning a company to the task force makes since, especially if it's main combat component is just one light infantry battalion.
Intimidating to see how badly your troops are getting mauled at range by lightly armored machine gun vehicles. Not looking forward to when their actual tanks show up.
Really enjoying these daily uploads, cheers Hapless. This turn was just brutal. More bad luck with the ATGMs and 2nd platoon just getting absolutely murdered. I don't understand why your FO team didn't even try and engage the Soviet scouts, they just seemed to lie there and take it. Total bloodbath. It's going to be really interesting to see what happens when your reinforcements arrive - could be very messy...
Hopefully you have some spare red pens? If you are really "lucky" the BRDM in the OP can now engage your reinforcements with enfilade fire as they appear.
Tldr: man the dragon sure is unreliable! But seriously, I'm baffled on how little it does in regards of precision. Quite a few dragons have flown so far and there was one hit that disabled the brdm because its armor is just slightly better that paper machê
Hmm... Maybe unsupported light infantry holding such open terrain was very optimistic on your part, and the unreliability of the Dragons should have been taken into account somehow, perhaps by stacking them up rather than spreading them out. Hindsight, hindsight.
This turn really evidences the importance of headwear for BRDM-2s. Without that tire hat it'd have been hit. Style saves lives.
This quickly turned from Player vs Player into Player vs Victim

Gonna miss your narrative man, it was lot's of fun

love it

It’s like the Chevy Chevette of armored cars

LAWs suck, period

this scenario seems to have everything stacked against the US side, i will be very surprised if even a close loss for the US is managed.

The Soviet player's choice to rush down the highway really paid off. Hapless has got himself to blame for that one!

it's Joever
I guess that platoon is really hapless now...
The Shtreimel on the BRDMS look like they are clowning on you while they mob the floor with your infantry
President Carter Should have sent the USMC.
Unfortunately it's not in CMCW
And actually watching from Airborne heaven it will get a bit better (not for our poor platoon)
It's so over for platoon 2 😢
My dude (Gart) is already yellow and the only one left in the MG team on the very right. Run, Gart, Run!
This is a brutal start
ATGMs Remaining: 20
ATGMs Fired: 4
ATGM Hits: 0
Vehicles Killed: 1/24
OK, later on accuracy "improved", still even when TOWs show up they miss a lot, doubt they can knock out all the Ivan tanks
Could have included some M551 Sheridans as an equalizer. This was the literal mission they were in the 82nds TO&E for.
OK, lorewise the vast majority of TF ridgeway (the other battalions) are doing other things offmap after being parachuted (I also have a feeling CMCW don't have Sheridans)

Armored cars appear to be extremely efficient against infantry.
It appears I have been slapped with some Soviet 7.62 rounds.
Deploying chimichangas
i wondered what happened with hedp granade launches
Haha gimped up pk. That’s probably a PKT

Well, they are call missiles & not hittiles
Hate to say it but things zre quickly going south for you. Hopefully some virtual divinity smiles upon you and your luck improves.
