Hey Steve we I've been hearing you justifying your engine failures in the last few videos. The comparison to a Toyota Camry. Your SMX is an engineering marvel... Someone trying to make a name may do stuff like this for him, but if he went with Morgan and Sons or Rehr Morrison, they would laugh at him and tell him to bring it to them. This internet stuff means almost nothing to them. If you are watching Cleet, it’s because you know nothing about racing. So they know they will not make any money off of you. 99% of Cleet’s fans will never even buy a mild build, let alone a full blown racing engine. So, no real engine builder would waste their time. There is no money in it for them. Also, you do know the Cleetus channel is about doing things wrong, right? So, no builder would want their name tied to his constant problems. Steven should have never wasted his time helping Cleet, because it’s not going to help him at all.
Almost all Billet engine builders do this... I've witnessed Proline do this for 481x customer's quite a few times. Most hardcore drag race people know what they're doing and don't need someone to fly out to diagnose an issue though...
We've al known Steve Morris is one fine prince of a fella but his NO FEAR showing the many challenges racers and engine builders face as they go about their crafts is beyond cool 🙂
I never knew what an SMX was before Cleetus. Cleetus saying it didn't work for HIM doesn't detract from how much abuse it survived. Cleetus runs loose and fast, which is fine, but I feel a more meticulous mindset is needed at that HP. I am interested to see how the new "Eagle" goes with their maintenance schedule.
@@matthewmccormick2417 for sure. The SMX was too much for the chassis (which was originally going to be a jet car). The BBC will go back into it and run happily as it always did and in sure Cleet'r will stick the SMX in Eagle. But that right There says a lot about Steve and his crew at the links that they will go to back you as a customer that alone is priceless.
Leave it to the internet trolls to blow things out of proportion. Bunch of crying about butthurt feelings. Steve Morris runs an immaculate program that needs no defending. Cleetus has a program that entertains millions. This whole comment section sounds like a bunch of petty bullshit honestly
While Cleetus may blow up motors and break parts left and right the fact is in a way builders like Steve or back in the day Texas Speed all rely on a guy like Cleetus to test the real limits of these motors and products. I don't think Steve would have ever thought one of his main crank caps would crack the way it did if not for Cleetus doing it.
He knew it would do it so redesigned it but it just hadn’t happened yet and for some reason all the times he’s had it in his hands for repairs he never updated it
He has already made revisions to the caps, pistons and many other parts way before Cletus. He has multiple customers running faster than him as well. The only thing he learned was that hitting 9400 plus rpm and not having a second gear may be bad for his motors. Like Steve says, any little thing can break a motor at this horsepower level and simply breaking things doesn’t necessarily give you any real data as to how to improve something if it’s due to other circumstances.
@@michaeltemple8333 Don't forget all the wheel hopping from them running the busted up tires that they did doughnuts on. Probably what also killed the transmission.

Love the ‘72 Monte Carlo. Full interior and full exterior trim including the trim across the back under the trunk lid too. That also looks like the stock metallic green for that year. Guy after my own heart.
Steve can you do a short explanation on mullets weight chassis vs greenie? You mention greenie is much heavier but still pulling 6s. Would be good to hear how weight vs chassis and how it works.
The biggest difference is how deep into the 6s Mullet is, combined with how awful the El Camino is as a base. The combination of a long wheelbase and mediocre weight distribution means they have to throw the kitchen sink at the thing past the 330 mark to push it into the low 6s, and the lockup on the big end is brutal on the entire driveline at those power levels. Running high 6s is nowhere near as stressful on parts, even with a significantly heavier car. The SMX in that case is more like Mullet's old 540 BBC in terms of how much overhead they have before they start running into issues.
@@griffinfaulkner3514Pretty sure Steve has explained how much more power it requires every 0.10th you drop in the 6s. Like every 10th is a huge difference in power.
@@aaronpreston47 Yeah, it almost becomes an exponential curve once you start going that fast. The same thing happens with ships; an Iowa-class battleship can do 29 knots with half its boilers cold, but to run up to the full 34 requires every last one of its 212,000 shaft horsepower.
We all know cleetus hammers his stuff but it seems inevitable that these things will break and one thing wrong can cause lots of different problems.... I really appreciate how Steve shows everything because we all learn from him and I love it.... Hopefully we get to see the smx in something else soon
“When you buy a Steve Morris engine, you get a Steve Morris. You just add water.” @SteveMorrisEngines can we get some Steve Morris Bobbleheads so we can all have our own personal Steve Morris? 😂

Not sure but it’s possible. I think he is having Steve repair the 540 BBC to go back into Mullet to make a dependable 7.0ish Drag and Drive car. I am pretty sure Garrett is fine trying to go faster in Mullet hence the new Camaro.
The smx is the complete wrong option for the new car #1 the water block is unnecessary failure points and weight and #2 481x based engines don’t survive in a pro275 car and have serious oiling issues at that power level (a mild a to b pass that may or may not make the field in that class is substantially more turned up than they’ve ever turned mullet up)
Steve, I love your loyalty to your customers.Thats why your one of the top engine builders on the planet. Also Allen is such a cool dude. All your customers should be like him.
as steve says, it's a 4500hp engine and with mullet being 3500 pounds with driver going over 220mph something is bound to break, plus dont forget its the scratch and dint special, that block had blown up beforehand
@@ivanmullet12 Plus hitting 9400 RPM, plus running it without a working second gear, plus wheel hopping all over the place on the traction control because you reused the old drag radials you took into the burnout box. And now doing the same with my kids and seeing other parents with similar passions hopefully passing it on to the next generation...just plain awesome.
Steve showing he's upset over what happened to Mullet just shows how much he cares about his Engine's and maybe Garrett didn't want it to sound like he was blaming the SMX for all his issues it kinda sounded like that, i hope I'm wrong he sure was happy at World Cup the first year he went with the SMX, Traction control and a Lock up in a heavy car is very hard on any Engine and that Engine was broken a few times before he got it.
I took it more as "so..with option '1'(SMX), we've had results, while with option '2', we've had ___ results; it might be a time to take into consideration & begin reevaluating things" We'll see.

I'm happy to hear that you're still working with Garrett. I know he's constantly pushing for content and wins and I was afraid he'd do something drastic and go a completely different direction. From an entertainment standpoint and interpersonally it's important to build relationships and share your content and viewers cross platforms if you decide to continue the UA-cam path. You're a warmhearted guy and that's hard to find and easy to watch in this automotive community. And the throw away comment, "I'm like a Ra-Man noodle!" Is exactly the stuff that keeps me coming back!😂 All the luck and success to you, brother! You deserve it.
I appreciate guys like you that have half the winning engines on a race track, amazing!
This is why I like Steve. He is a real person with real expectations of machines. Simple science and an honest person showing real life. Thank you Mr. Morris
Hey Steve we I've been hearing you justifying your engine failures in the last few videos.
The comparison to a Toyota Camry.
Your SMX is an engineering marvel... I say second to none as to what it is capable of.
Anyone who has a realistic understanding of high horsepower engines will understand they fail...
There is no need to justify I say to appease the haters.. Keep doing what you do so well..
You guys rock.
Steve, you are the epitome of what a builder, shop owner should be. If I ever win the Lotto or PB, I'll become a customer!!
Steve, you are LITERALLY showing and telling us everything. I dont know of many companies who are like "here's how I build my products"
Im fairly certain that if i had a couple hundred thousand dollars CNC I could build a billet block because of your channel 😂
You sir are like no one else. You channel has grown so much also. I remember when everyone was weird in front of a camera haha
the green Monte is just flat out cool, all you can say about that thing. as for seeing broken stuff, it sucks to break things, but it happens, and we can only learn by disecting it and investigating.
I don't care what you say Steve is the only Engine Builder/ Manufacturer who stands behind his work like he does, i mean he Pet's and rubs them like their his Babies.
The word you were looking for is in your own niche. Thanks for spreading this wonderful wisdom. 🙏🇺🇸
Steve, I don't know how you do it. That was one hell of a busy week and yet you still come back and bring so much energy. You're killin it! What's your secret??
Let's not make a big deal about Mullet and Steve-sounds weird. Steve is rocking a FF brim. Believe what your eyes see.🙂👍
I think it's more a Financial decision for Cleeter he probably feels like since his promod is being built he needs to quit leaning on so many Projects at once 😅
It sucks but I feel like you are having to explain/defend yourself. People really need to realize what these engines do and it’s truly amazing they hold up as well as they do. I love the videos and how well you explain everything. Keep it up Steve!
Steve you’re a true leader. You show the good the bad the ugly! Thank you sir!
Love me some big ol

Thanks
Alan !
Great job

IF I was a rich man...I'd buy your engine. Still working with Camry dough, tho. Let's GO!
Check out what Mighty Car Mods did with a budget turbo Camry
Must say. Your presence means more to many than bringing your car.
Be great for your time slips, but your knowledge & friendship means alot more.
Your awesome. 👍
I so love this, coming from SoCal Irwindale Don Garlits Don The Snake Prudome and the rest of the 60s-70s Icons!! You're The Man Steve!!!!!
Steve has one of the best, positive dispositions I've seen... the only guy that seems to match Steve's disposition is Allen. No matter what happens, Allen has a smile on his face and a witty thing to say. Seems like a really good guy. Congrats to Allen and his team!
This what it takes to build a brand. The man must stand behind his product and then some. Always a good job.
I am impressed by Steve's willingness to hit the road to support his products. Almost reminds me of a young Gale Banks.
Steve is a hands on type of guy. Never see him make excuses for anything that happens when you dealing with his horse power things break. It's racing stuff happens. Stuff the others so called drag racing shows don't show you.
There is no motor out there gonna run like that smx did for cleet that thing was a fucking monster
He needs less in that chassis anyhow
@@Wesmoon87 agreed but I see the smx getting slapped back in mullet after a few losses I don’t think switching is the answer hell there are ppl blowing up stock blocks just as well as billet it’s racing Steve will figure out the weakness and make it better
Yep me and some Kid went round and round. He also didnt like it when i told him find another Engine builder that will drop what he is doing and make a trip in person. There is no other then you Steve. You rock customer service and the SMX and SML rock Drag and Drive
110%!
Yes there is lol. You think motor builders won’t jump hoops to be involved with Cleet? Your crazy.
@@goblebrotherracing5525 Nope they wont. Not any of the big ones like SME. Proof is Proline. When Ryan Martin Engine went south other day. Did owner of Proline show up? NOPE
@@goblebrotherracing5525Do you really think a youtuber asking for free or cheap stuff matters to any established engine builder?
I'm not doing sick summer, gets roped in anyway! You can never escape!!
I totally agree. Unless Cleetus ups his maintenance (tear down and inspect) game Eagle is going to go fast and break…a lot.
Well if you look and listen the Eagle will be powered by a SME. Why Steve got pushed to do the old BBC. It will be the power plant for the new Car.
@@matthewmccormick2417 for sure. The SMX was too much for the chassis (which was originally going to be a jet car). The BBC will go back into it and run happily as it always did and in sure Cleet'r will stick the SMX in Eagle. Only reason to deviate would be Purley for new content, which is probably one of the bigger considerations
@@matthewmccormick2417the old BBC is for mullet not the new car
@@fatnfurious9171 You so sure? Because no way will the SMX from mullet be ready in next few days.
lol when it comes to what not to do just point to Cleetus and say to do the opposite of what he does since he's eventually broken EVERY engine he's ever had
That’s what happens when you push setups to the limit as much as they do. He’s not your typical “ take it racing 3-4 times a year” type person.
@@goblebrotherracing5525 most of that group who race Sick Week race a lot more than 3 - 4 times per year they race every drag and drive they can so long as their lives away from racing such as work and family permit it. Cleetus is only different as he has so many different cars to race due to his youtube
When those birds wake up, it's been a long night
Always enjoy how open and honest Steve and his crew are. Never any secret Squirrel moments. Also, I don't think people quite understand when you're dealing with an a-list engine builder. It's very hard for them to come out in person and help you fix your combination. Not taken away from any of the top builders. But that right There says a lot about Steve and his crew at the links that they will go to back you as a customer that alone is priceless.
You’re the man Steve!
Dude, I just like the technical content. Idgaf about what influencer you help. Just keep doing what you do. I enjoy it.
Steve, the word you’re looking for is fellowship. People of the same mind spending time together!
7:25 racer math in a nutshell
@@michaeltemple8333agreed. I’d like to know what the sustained RPM was in burnout box @ the last event!
@@michaeltemple8333 Don't forget all the wheel hopping from them running the busted up tires that they did doughnuts on. Probably what also killed the transmission.
Thumbs way up to Alan.
Love the car and your attitude.
Enjoyed your performance during Sick Summer.

“Upper Management, so I’m up here, not on my back” hahaha love it
At 7:50, any one else wonder how long til he sets his head down in that oil?
That’s why you always wear a old hat turned backwards when you’re doing that the hat protects your head and the bill protects your neck
I like the fact that Steve is willing to continue working with Garrett. He's the guy rebuilding mullets' big block. I saw the post Garrett made about Steve today. They have respect. They make a great team. I can't wait to see what's next. ✌️
In the words of Kermit, "It aint easy being Green"
That you display the good, the bad, and the ugly is really excellent. 50g can be converted to scrap in just one blip at these power levels. Steve, I adore the channel!
You build 1000 smx engines and 1 goes pop and guess what one people talk about...... Every engine trans builder that does stuff for Cleetus goes through this. I hope Steve knows its the internet.
It’s awesome you showing the eagles new pro charged SMX
😉
For cleetus sake lets hope not because a 481x based engine has oiling issues at that power level
That car won't have a Procharger, look at the Fuel tank and tell me where it would go, there's no place for it, it's probably Turbos I couldn't imagine him using a Screw
you think a water jacketed SMX is going in eagle? 😂 mate you have no idea what you are on about
Cleetus breaks everything. He would tear up a Tonka toy!!
Stands on the rev limiter for 2 step with thin walls from being beat on the bottom end.
“When you buy a Steve Morris engine, you get a Steve Morris. You just add water.” @SteveMorrisEngines can we get some Steve Morris Bobbleheads so we can all have our own personal Steve Morris? 😂
I hope Cleetus puts that SMX in the new car, the eagle that's where it belongs in a legit race car built to go fast. He'll be much happier with it. Steve, you're fucking awesome man. You build crazy engines. Keep that shit going!!!
Not sure but it’s possible. I think he is having Steve repair the 540 BBC to go back into Mullet to make a dependable 7.0ish Drag and Drive car. I am pretty sure Garrett is fine trying to go faster in Mullet hence the new Camaro.
@@danmyers9372 hes got 2 on the dyno.. im thinking one is for cleet but i could be verry wrong
The smx is the complete wrong option for the new car #1 the water block is unnecessary failure points and weight and #2 481x based engines don’t survive in a pro275 car and have serious oiling issues at that power level (a mild a to b pass that may or may not make the field in that class is substantially more turned up than they’ve ever turned mullet up)
I'd love to see the smx in eagle. It's still a bonkers engine and it needs a bonkers car
@54raceman is the plan for Eagle to be a 275? The smx is...just so cool tho

as steve says, it's a 4500hp engine and with mullet being 3500 pounds with driver going over 220mph something is bound to break, plus dont forget its the scratch and dint special, that block had blown up beforehand
@@ivanmullet12*dent*

@@icandreamstream Well said, sir.
@@ivanmullet12that block could have blown up three times that has nothing to do with anything... Top fuel teams blow them apart all the time and fix them and they support 12,000 horsepower trust me he wouldn't have let Garrett run that engine if it was even hurt a little bit... I literally look for damaged engines to save money when I build a new one😂.... That's why people at the top run billet, it's easy to fix and it handles more hp than cast...
When you're smacking the pavement with a 4,500 HP sledgehammer, something will ewventually give. The fact that your engines last so long is a true testament to your ability and knowledge of the craft. I mean, Top Fuelies do a full rebuild after every single pass and your stuff is riding cross country between 6 second runs. That alone says it all. Your humor is on point, always puts a smile on my face!

Thank you for sharing your experience Steve. Like you said, not a lot of people do.
Super cool to see Alan taking his kid along for the ride. Seems like a genuine dude and one of my personal favorite drag and drive cars. I was fortunate to do a lot of the same with my dad Hot Rod Power Tours, One Lap of America, and many more events those are memories that will last a lifetime.
I took it more as "so..with option '1'(SMX), we've had results, while with option '2', we've had ___ results; it might be a time to take into consideration & begin reevaluating things"
We'll see.
