      Another cool fact is that it's such an important junction that there actually, years and years ago, was a simulator game where you were in charge of directing trains around the station. 🙂 Apparently you can still download it. It's called Gordikon - as a reference to the legendary knot from antiquity - railway junctions are called "knots" in Czech.
      (I never played it, I was too young to understand it, and generally I'm not very into games. But I like the fact that this one's really trying to be a realistic simulator of what the dispatch in a specific railway station would be doing.)

      but infrastructure is garbage, it looks new, but newer = even more delays and we send more trains than tracks can handle and that cuses train accidents (poeple die here in trains every year), delayes, canceled trains....it's terrible in last 10 years that even I am thinking about buying car and I really don't like cars. Our main corridor between Prague and Moravia region is overbussy, there is a train every 2 minutes, so one problem means that trains are screwed in whole country and there is no solution, because villagers who hate trains will block everything for decades.

    One thing, trains operated by Czech Railways typically haveon site dining in the first class, meaning the dining car staff will come to you to ask, whether you want anything from the diner and you have priority serving as a perk of first class. Note that either a steward responsible for the coach (on Pendolino trains) or conductor will give you the water bottle at the start of your journey, but a proper waiter will come for your dining order and will serve you your food! Not the conductor!

    Afaik the two bike spaces and thus symmetrical design is owed to the lack of cab cars as the normal cars lack standard couplers, they put on two end cars, one of them coupled to the restaurant.
    Once they get cab cars and restaurants, they’ll split the sets up and reassemble them in their final form

    The U. K. privatised the railways many years ago. It has been a disaster. Large companies failed and are now back in state ownership and have improved the service, fares and catering. The designers of even our newest trains need a good lesson in making our rolling stock more attractive, inside and out. We have some of the highest fares in the world. I have travelled with Czech Railways many times; it makes me quite envious.

    • @Stuchlej
      @Stuchlej 4 дні тому

      When it comes to quality, Czech Railways (ČD) was a very different company prior to privatisation of rail services. It had all major rail assets: the railway, the stations, cars and locos, it controlled both passenger and cargo transport. The ČD was involved in politics through "allied" parties and was getting huge amount of money from subsidised contracts, even when the contracted lines would be profitable on it's own. And the services were just terrible. I remember a time, when having a running water on Prague - Brno train was a rarity. It was not matter of age of the cars, it was about the effort put into upkeep. And ČD just didn't really care. The staff was brazen and arrogant.
      The introduction of private companies was quite a bold political move at the time. ČD had to give up most of the assets mainly the track and buildings, it was forced to compete for the subsidies on merit. And in the space of few years there was a significant improvement in the quality of the services and keeping up with timetables. Sure, I haven't met a ČD employee who would agree with me, and they would try to school me with phrases like "You don't know anything about how railways operate." But what I do know is, that there was a time, when I wanted to puke when going to ČD toilet and then suddenly someone started to clean the toilets.

    To be honest, while I like that we are moving forward and getting new sets that can go at high speeds and have all these sorts of luxuries like air conditioning, wifi, power plugs and usb ports and whatever else, I can't help but mourn the replacement of the old carriges.
    I'm gonna miss the compartments and the openable windows, hell even the noise. I love that on the old trains, you could get into compartments and have a little piece of the train just for you or your family, and since they were relatively sound isolating, you could speak loudly and laugh and such and there was also more leg space, so much so, that you could leave your seat and go to the toilet without the people sitting next to you having to get up and leave their seats so that you could get out - which was something I ran into while traveling to Munich last month, as the OBB carriges I was traveling in were quite similar. Likewise, the openable windows are just such a blast, I'm gonna miss them so much - there's nothing better than just opening the window and looking outside while the train is moving at 80 - 120 km/h, it's so much fun and it was and still is something I really love whenever I ride on these old coaches. Also even the sounds, this is probably more of a nostalgia thing, but I grew acustomed to the screaching and humming of the old carringes, as well as the ,,ddnk ddnk'' as they ride on some old track with old rail connections. It just feels like these newer trains were are so ... sanitized ... in a way. Going on the old ones was not just a way to get from a poit A to point B, but also an experience and an adventure. The new ones are just ... you get on, sit in silence ... get out, it's honestly quite boring. I can't help it.
    I know that technology is moving forward and we can't keep using these old coaches forever, at some point we are just going to need to replace them, but I really wish there was something more taken from the old trains and kept in the newer carriges. Sure keep the wifi and aircon and the other cool modern tech that you like, but like keep the compartments, keep the windows openable - atleast to a certain speed, don't make these trains so boring to ride. I don't really want to travel in these crammed uncomfortable seats, because it's the more profitable configuration, I wanna sit in a compartment, with my friends on the bench seats, where I can lay down if I'm traveling alone and the compartment is empty, where I don't have to worry about where to put my feet comfortable because there's enough space and where I can open up the window and enjoy the ride and the beautifull countryside. It's not so much to ask is it ?

      @cmdrHeliaxx Місяць тому +6

      Sorry but I just dont like compartments and never have. Even if Im travelling with family. Because most times Im simply not travelling with 5 other people and every time Im in cabin with strangers, Id rather just be in normal seats. I sometimes go with RailJet and honestly I like that way more than compartments. Usually I dont even think I have much problem with legroom.

      I get your point and I can confirm that nostalgia is a mighty witch because I fully remember terrible rides in dirty conditions during 90s but I emotionally connect with those calm, nice rides in empty trains or rowdy laughter with friends in separate compartments...I still enjoy open windows more than AC even in my new car. 😀

    First class coach in the middle of a train is a good idea when the train calls at through stations more often than terminal stations so the first class coach will be in the shortest walking distance from the underpass (so from the entrance/exit). See the Swiss ICN EMU's for example.

The trainsets, while nice, are nothing revolutionary, as the interior is very similar to the Interjets and Czech Railjets... • @michalsimanek6988
      @michalsimanek6988 Місяць тому +7

      I see your point, but i understand that change doesn't come all at once. First they modernise the tracks, then they build new train sets, then they could put pressure on the legislation like "look, we're ready to operate on higher speeds, update the laws already! The law is the only thing holding us back!" until they change it.
      Basically just incremental improvements are still improvements. 10-15 years ago, I couldn't even dream that something this nice and modern could be riding our rails, yet here we are.
      But yeah, i also don't see much difference compared to the Interjets. Though with the planned control and restaurant cars, i get the feeling that this is meant to just be a modified version of the Interjet for a different role? Interjets are meant to run inside Czechia (inter = inside), so they are more simple, but Comfortjets are meant as international service only (comfort for long distance)?

    • @jfmezei
      @jfmezei Місяць тому +5

      allowing higher speeds is a bit more involved if the standards were all set for max of 160. Consider signal visibility for instance. Old style lights are allowed up to 200 but not above (need to go to something like ETCS for 230). The other aspect is that of grade crossings. You need to set standards that apply between 160 and 200 or above for grade crossings and ensure that the circuitry that is installed will work and close gates with sufficient warning before train passes. You need to reach further away from the grade crossings so the signals that detect approaching train and its speeds will start the process in time since train reaches crossing faster.
      Of course, Europe already has those standards so Czeck Republic could just copy those from another EU country.

    I have to say, I preffer the classic B class coaches. You see, I'm obese and those coaches have good old fashioned benches with really good back rests. Perfect for traveling long distances, even though, they don't have aircon. They have a toilet, I'm not actually afraid to clog up (something that happens on the newer vaccume systems regularly), you can open the windows, so even if the loco dies and batteries go flat, you're not baking inside. Sure they lack WiFi and power otulets, but those could be added...
    I've recently tried out Czech, Slovak and Hungarian EC grade first classes and I only fit in the Czech ones. I'm too tall for Hungarian ones at 177 cm (yes tall, not fat. Their headrests are too low for me and are fixed, meaning I can't lean back into the seat) and this hold's true for both coupé and coach style cars! Slovaks are better, but noone may sit against me. Otherwise, they have my legs betwen theirs and it's very ackward. Long story short... I don't welcome this on our rails... it introduces problems only to increase speed, which will in turn require more maintenance on coaches and the track, which will in turn increase costs to travel on the rail. Bring back the benches and extend the trains, so everybody can have a seat!

    First of all - maximum speed limit in Czech Republic is (and will remain for long time) at 160 km/h. If I´m not mistaking, Siemens Vectron locomotives are capable of maximal speed 230 km/h. Nevertheless, this will be possible OUT OF the Czech Republic, only in countries abroad. Trying to figure out what is then the benefit for the Czech railways, except the new coaches and the new Vectron locomotive. What is the need of current time is the high-speed rail infrastructure. well connected to the main European long-distance routes (TENs) , capable of normal operational speed above 200 km/h. This is a huge debt of the Czech railway infrastructure, even compared to countries like Morocco or Poland, which is now building its high-speed rail infrastructure.

    • @Simon-Andersen

      @@tomastetur1 Simply put, 230 km/h is needed in order for the train to keep up with the new timetable structure on Hamburg - Berlin, part of one of their backbone international routes. If you have shown the marking on the dining car, I would be willing to bet it showed 160 as its rated top speed. Train limited by speed rating of its slowest car.
    Like with ÖBB, the cars have RIC-like markings but not the "RIC" stamp next to max speed and so will need to be approved to operate i each individual country.
    110kmh average speed for conventional train that makes stops is pretty good, especially if you had delays.
    Wijipedia says they purchased the viaggios as permanently coupled option, which explains why the non-Viaggio dining car has to be in the front where the front car is the only one with standard coupler normally to attach to locomotive.

    One small correction - the free water bottle is not exclusive to the 1st class like the video might imply, they are handing these out in 2nd class as well. I have a strong suspicion that the seat reservation that's actually paid here (it costs 35 CZK for 2nd class) pays for the water that you get on board. Other trains you can reserve your seat for free (provided the reservation is done with a ticket and ahead of time, not a last minute reservation in addition to an already purchased ticket). You won't get a free bottle there tho.

    Problem is that Siemens sold us old gen train for a price of a new one. We get less new technologies then new generation of Railjet (like better lightning). Also we already know that the capacity of the trainset is too low for the nowadays demand.

    Charging of e-bikes is not wise option. If the battery fails and starts fire, it will be impossible to put out. That does not mesh well with flammable train full of passengers. On top of that, the fire will be blocking one of the exits.

    Look like nothing changed from oder trains.
    If you call this comfort you probably never tried RegioJet. Much cheaper ticket(almost half if you go outside rush hour) and food with better quality. If you buy better class you get discount on food, after that is cheaper than in restaurant or shop.
    btw food in ČD trains is like 150 % of normal price if you go in restaurant

      Oh I love RegioJet, cheap and good. But their trains are older and refurbished, which is fine. I'm yet to find anywhere where train food costs the same as in a restaurant?

    Personally, I don't find the first class seats in the new comfort jet comfortable at all. You can only adjust the seat a little. The backrest can't be adjusted at all. The mini armrests seem just as hard as they currently are in the EC trains between Berlin and Prague. I miss a kind of business class area with wider seats. It's a shame that the comfort is getting worse and worse than it used to be in these strange open-plan carriages.

      @jmsmilfajt Місяць тому

      What? These are completely different seats that are currently present in CD Pendolinos, Interjets and Comfortjets. I would say it's a similar comfort to new ICE 3 Neos. These are a lot wider than those in old Berliner first class coaches. Yes, they may look the same but they are way more ergonomic and the armrests are different as well.

    • @172Manager
      @172Manager Місяць тому

      If that's true, I'll change my opinion on my first trip on the Comfort Jet. Visually, the seats look exactly like the ones in the current EC trains. However, compartments with light switches and curtains in the aisle would be better and more comfortable in terms of peace and privacy.
