    Thanks for the reply and simple explanation.. Also the visual guide was very helpful as well. I think the 7 top channels sounds like a good idea. With having 2 top middles that would act like a VOG so you'll have perfect set up for all audio formats. Yes Auro 3D is not native but I've seen and read that a lot of people like or prefer using the Auromatic upmixer to get better sound from lackluster atmos audio
    Looking forward to hearing your opinion on CH and that setup.
    Thanks

    I'm running a 7.2.4 setup with my Denon x4700h with front heights and surround (side) heights. I can't do rear heiggts. Sounds great work Auro3d upmuxing since ATMOS doesn't let you use the rear surrounds (the 7.x- th speakers) in that configuration.

    Keep in mind that both Auro3D AND DTS:X-Pro can make use of the Center Height and Voice of God at the same time. Atmos is the only one which doesnt use them.
    If you make extensive use of Auromatic and the Neural-X upmixer, they might be worth investing in.
    Though the Center Height can be a phantom if you already have Front Heights, so not strictly necessary

    Hi mo I'm against a back wall and have front heights in a 5.1.2 and I'm getting another 2 atmos speakers would you recommend me putting the extra heights on the side walls facing downwards or against the wall the sofa is against up high like the fronts ??

    • @magnoliamo
      @magnoliamo  8 місяців тому

      Thanks for the question. If you are able to install them on the side walls above the surrounds facing towards the main listening position that would be better in my opinion. That is how auro-3D setup goes as well.

    • @Yorkscarnivore
      @Yorkscarnivore 8 місяців тому

      @magnoliamo yes I can install either , I was just wondering which area like I said, so the best position.would be on the side walls above surrounds facing mlp?

      @elloco271 I would go with Klipshs’s recommendation. Start at 150 hz and see how that sounds and then move down. I wouldn’t go below 120 hz.

    Do you still use auro 3d upmixer? If so, what are your settings - have you tried movie mode?

      Yes, mostly use Auro-3D on non dolby atmos soundtracks. I use default settings. I also use Auro-3D for multi-channel music in addition to standard Auro-3D music discs.

    I think you might be ok with the 2 middle vs the vog. To sample vog I temporarily hung a speaker above my head on a ladder to test it out and it was great, I literally had chills and goosebumps go down my spine from my neck down! Later I moved that speaker off of the ladder and again temporarily hung it way up on the side wall until I could plan how I would finally do the vog since I have very high ceilings and it will be a chore to permaently do the vog. My results were ok, but not as good as vog. With it on the side wall directed at me, it's good enough that I do get the overhead effect, but it is just nice to hear, but not visceral like the first true vog.
    Incidentally, the the vog and all auro3d upmixed speakers are designed to use full range speakers. Obviously, that is difficult but the more base you can get out of the vog speaker the absolute more immersive you feel the spaceship or plane overhead.
    Just to confirm you mentioned native auro3d tracks but obviously it's the upmixer most people use. I've found so many lackluster atmos tracks that auro3d upmixer makes better use of the sound bubble.
    How do you test what is actually coming out of the speakers and determine what the processing is doing? I pain stakeingly lower all speakers except the one I'm testing and then sample a few memorized movie scenes that I know the audio cues and I look for the differences. It takes time and I have found lots of atmos tracks having no data sent to speakers, where the auro3d upmixer will send crucial data such as birds chirping or environmental sounds up to the heights and really makes the scene alive. Another test I do is to verify that the processing is not sending duplicate data to surrounds or if it is changing the sound from say the middle height to the rear height, ideally they should be different audio cues. Otherwise if not then it's just parallel speakers that can be done free without an expensive avr. Since the new update I haven't done that.
    I use center height and it is nice, not as awsome as vog positioned overhead but it's nice, not required for me.

      Thanks for the detailed comment. I have a separate 5-channel amp for the 5 of the height speakers, and a separate stereo amp that I run in bridge mode for the 6th height speakers. For testing, I turn off the bed layer 7-channel amp. That way I can tell exactly what’s playing and how the sound is panning across the height speakers. All my videos and reviews that have to do with height speakers are tested like that. For a couple of my videos I took the pain staking process to configuring the speakers for .2, .4, and .6 layouts in the processor and then switching the height speaker connectors accordingly based on each layout.
      I have also compared auro-3D and Atmos in my Avatar 2 review. You may want to check that out.
      By watching the same scene over and over again with just the heights and with just the bed layer speakers you can tell what sounds are duplicated in the height channels and the bed layer speakers and which ones are not. Thanks for the comment.

    Hello Sir, need your valuable suggestion.im using denon1700h amplifier. Kefq650 is the centre. Polk t50 is the front left and right. Polk t 15 is the surround.current crossover is set all to 80hz. Dialogues are not very clear. It sounds boomy. What crossover should i put for these to get clear audio output and dialogue clarity

    • @magnoliamo
      @magnoliamo  7 місяців тому

      The Kef Q650 have a steep rolloff after 80hz so 80hz is the lowest you should go for crossover. If you are using audyssey then it should correct the boomy-ness. Where is the center located?
