Steve rides his 2024 Yamaha YZ450F versus Keefer on a 2024 YZ125, a 1990 YZ125, and a 2024 YZ85! Can the faster rider on a slower bike beat the slower rider on a faster bike? Let's see!

Keefer on the 85 looks like Benny on the Beta.
The 85 probably has more hp than the Beta from what I've heard.

@@lw3918 He's a big guy to say the least, and qualified 8th in PA, finished 8th in Nashville, started top ten in both events. But sure, a YZ85 probably has more power. Completely logical. Might want to question your sources.

Startcross on that track. Steve, for a guy that doesn't like jumps, pretty smooth. The 85 start was iffy unless the 450 was sleeping

Matthes is an awesome dude who actually rides pretty damn good! It’s just that Keefer is literal a professional rider. They’re both super cool if you ask me 💯

As I always say, Usable power is the key. I see so many riders struggling trying to ride a 450 and you see so many kids on 85cc passing them like nothing. Jeff Emig won Loretta’s on a 125 modified to 150cc, Steve Lamson won MX Des. On a 125 between a whole field on 500cc with best riders of the world. I see same thing every weekend in any loca track.
A fully done up super mini has close to the best power to weight ratio of any bike on the track.

Man! Matthes really hated on the Renthal purple bars a couple years ago, now I bet he’s purposely NOT running them now out of spite even though they’d look perfect on his bike over the newer special edition Renthal. 💜
This was so inspirational! After seeing Mathes ride, I feel like on my 10 year old RMZ I can accomplish anything I put my mind to. Thanks for the inspiration Steve!

A tip of the hat to Steve good riding. Definitely a hard track to push and stay on the back tire. Dusty tight and kinda scary jumps. As a guy in my mid 40’s weighing in at 265 and 6’3” I know how hard it is to be competitive at riding/ racing but with a love of the sport I do my best and ride for the fun and enjoyment

I think this much anticipated video almost lived up to the hype, but the lack of drone footage doesn’t do this type of shootout any justice.

Videos like this is really one of the cool parts of our sport. Steve looked pretty good that second moto. As for the YZ 85 being faster than that 1990 bike, no doubt. I had a cherry 2001 Honda CR 125 (a notoriously slow 125) about a decade ago and one youth rider had a current YZ 85 and several of us rode both bikes for fun and we all felt that 85 was stronger than my Honda 125.
