The latest talks between Egypt, Sudan & Ethiopia over water sharing have failed. Egypt believes that its water security is at risk due to the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam. Ethiopia has built the dam despite Egypt's concerns.
The dam is yet to become fully operational. Egypt wants to secure water guarantees before the dam is complete, so that Ethiopia can't shut off the tap even during drought years. Palki Sharma tells you more.

Ethiopia should look into nuclear power plants, and other green forms of energy. This will make them less dependant on the hydroelectricity through the dam. With reduced dependency on the dam, comes less of a need to restrict so much of the water supply. Increased flow of the Nile river will resolve and dissolve this dispute between both nations. Ethiopia cannot rely solely on the hydroelectric dam, indefinitely; even supposed "developed countries" (countries are always developing, just as an FYI) require other sources of energy and 'nuclear' is a powerful and study alternative. Think of it as a miniature sun/battery or 'heart' that all major countries (that are geopolitically active) need to order to secure their civilization's electric system. A temporary pause to that circuitry will immediately affect their civilisation [circuitry] system. I doubt they would even be able to make use to their railway. My point is, Ethiopia really does not to diversify their sources of reliable, green energy. And nuclear is an effect alternative that will suit Ethiopia will l very well, - and on all fronts: not only will it secure the growth, safety and power needs of their country, but it will also prevent Ethiopia from making an enemy of Egypt; which at worst could spiral into unnecessary, embarrassing and inconvenient warfare... All 'that' inconvenience, because of 'ONE' dam??? - 'ONE' relatively [un]'stable' power source??? And how stable is that power source if it understandably triggers a war between two nations who are supposed to be friendly and on genuinely good terms with each other? The possibility and understandable threat of war should and will be avoided. The reason being, if a war broke out between nations, then that would mean that the dam was destroyed (at varying time frames; before or after the war).
This would escalate to include the following atrocities that neither nations deserve or want for their respective civilizations, i.e. the loss of human life, embarrassment to the continent/Africa's reputation, destruction of properties, landmarks, etc.
The dam's 'sole' existence will 'not' be allowed to cause warfare. You [Ethiopia] need to diversify your [electric] sources of power, Ethiopia. The dams sole existence causes too much friction, geopolitically; which ultimately, ruins the extent of the dam's stability as a reliable source of power. Diminishing the Nile _(especially given its importance, as the life blood of Egypt, is cause for the dams destruction, which might spiral into war... The outcome is stupid. Avoid it)._
Conclusion: One way or another; in the near or distant future, Ethiopia will experience the crucial need to diversify their [electric] power supply. Why not start right away, Ethiopia? This will solve 'ALL' your problems, in the short-term and long-term, it will also make Egypt a likely, ['formidable'] ally of Ethiopia, militarily, - but against the West!
SIDE NOTE: Intuitively, I have a strong hunch that ENTP ('narcissists' - in which the majority of that neuropersonality and brain-formation are often born comorbid with it) are highly prevalent in the Ethiopia's government. What Ethiopia building is a hydroelectric dam. Which means the water hit turbines to generate electricity and go down it’s natural course. The dam is in cool highlands of Ethiopia, where evaporation loss is very minimal, unlike Egypt’s dam in the desert with large evaporation loss. Ethiopia’s dam has net benefits, that is how Sudan sees it. Egypt’s goal is hegemony using colonial time water sharing agreements between, you guessed it, UK and UK 🇬🇧

It is totally wrong & Egypt does not want to share the Nile with any Nile basin countries. That is why Egypt & Sudan not signed the Nile Basin Initiative (NBI).
Besides the current Egyptian Water Minister Dr. Hani Swilam, once said "If you're talking about the water share,..." I'm not sure if Ethiopia will get any blue Nile water".

This is not true. Yes, for a long time Egypt prevented up stream countries for using the Nile waters. But Egypt has now come to accept that Ethiopia has the right to use the waters of the Nile including building the GERD dam.
Egypt wants Ethiopia to commit in a written agreement that it will continue to share the waters of the Nile especially in times of drought. I don't get why Ethiopia is against this. What happened in the past should not prevent us from progressing now.
Africa supported Ethiopia's right to build the dam but it doesn't support Ethiopia's refusal to share the waters of the Nile.
As an African, I love Palki Sharma & other Indian news organizations... but I have beginning to notice some twist of narratives from these news organizations as regard to Africa, like calling the recent coups in Africa as Scramble of Africa. Scrambling of African natural resources in the past by outside Powers led to colonialism, but the African people are doing the opposite by kicking out neo- colonists. As India rises fast in global geo-politics, they are subtlely extending their hate of rise of China to Africa because of Chinese involvement in Africa infrastructural quest. There is a technology available today called “Reverse osmosis “to use salt water for drinking and irrigation systems. So instead of arguing with Ethiopia about water, there is a nearby Mediterranean Sea that can be filtered and used for anything, not just irrigation, but you have to have a future plan, you don't rely on Ethiopia's ownership of the Nile River. Ethiopia has its own agenda.
Egypt refused the invitation of Nile basin countries to negotiate on how to use the Nile water. Instead, Egypt wants to enforce colonial agreements that none of the Nile basin countries participated in because these agreements benefit Egypt. That's simply unacceptable

The Nile doesn't just provide fresh water, its periodic flooding deposits fertile silt on the river banks since ancient times. This makes the land on either side of the Nile fertile and perfect for agriculture. It would cost billions to provide that much fertilizer otherwise.

It is my dam and 85% of the water comes from Ethiopia and you're telling me I cant use my own water. Egypt should pay us for using our water free for the past 100 of years without sharing it. Some things that were missed in this report is that a vast majority of the Nile’s water comes from Ethiopia. So much so that a mega dam won’t affect their water whatsoever.
Also, as another commenter said, Egypt is moreso attempting to maintain regional hegemony especially over the Nile by harkening back to old British colonial standards. In fact, similar to China, many headwaters in the region begin in Ethiopia so this row is strictly geopolitical in nature. I’d go so far as to say that Egypt may quietly be behind a lot of the turmoil in Ethiopia right now.
But I think things will be resolved. Ethiopia isn’t using the water for irrigation which would actually pose a real threat and the hydroelectric output from the GERD will boost development for the whole region. So on the one hand, Ethiopia would have the opportunity to mature into a regional player much to the chagrin of Cairo but on the other hand that development would ultimately benefit Egypt by creating more mature markets to do business with.
So long as water keeps following in drought times (perhaps Egypt pays a minimal fee to offset Ethiopia's losses) and no use of water for irrigation in Ethiopia, seems fair to me.
The dam fills during the monsoon season(The raining season), in order to help the flow of water to Egypt. More than half the people in Ethiopia don't have electricity. We are building it to help our people not to upset Egypt or anything else.

What country has ever signed away its sovereignty over its resources? Egypt's insistence on a binding agreement is absurd. Ethiopia is right in not wanting to put an albatross on future generations with a ridiculous agreement, especially since it generates up to 90 percent of the Nile's stream flow and Egypt is not giving up anything of value in exchange, not that Ethiopia wants one. The dam is a hydroelectric dam and water must flow. That should suffice for the two downstream countries. Ethiopia has no intention of harming them. Egypt dug a hole for itself by internationalizing the issue and attempting to involve the US, the Arab League, and European nations, which do not have Ethiopia's interest at heart. Trump famously egged Egypt to blow the dam. Go figure.

I have been to Addis ababa many times. The power cuts is pretty insane, they need this dam. egypt have sleeped on the time fight Muhamad Mursi and for filling Amerikas and isreals need for security while they forgot their own. its not ethiopias fault that the blue nile is in their area.
Instead of decade long debate, why not Egypt construct a reservoir of similar or larger scale, collect water when released and use it when water is held in Ethiopia. It is simple math. Egypt would truly be affected ONLY if the water is held in Ethiopia, diverted in Ethiopia and prevented from entering Egypt. However, the lame argument is about water being held, but not diverted somewhere else. The purpose of Hydro is to hold it and release it.

The report has a fundamental problem on the pictorial presentation of the source of Nile. It should start from the countries where the river starts mainly Ethiopia for 86% of the water and shall end in Egypt and not the other way round. The dam is for electricity use which does not have significant impact on lower reparian countries but rather a positive one of managed water flow for efficient agricultural use with out the incidence of flood. Furthermore, Ethiopia has the right for developmemt and Egypt by no means is entitled to a colonial era agreement of water share. We will finish the GERD and start new 100 dams on the ABAY our ABAY and its contributors like the Jemma river. We will ascertain our regional hegemony along with our fellow African brothers in the spirit of Pan Africanism and Egypt is welcome to join our leadership. We will become a Great Power!!!

The talks didn't fail, they are to meet for the next round in Addis Ababa in September. Ethiopia will never accept Sudan and Egypt getting 100% of the water as "guaranteed" by their colonial agreements with Britain of which Ethiopia as an independent nation was excluded from. We want a mutually beneficial agreement that recognizes our right to use the rivers in our territory, and they want us to sign a binding agreement saying they will decide if and how we use those rivers. I am confident through good faith negotiations we will reach an agreement and we will all be able to use the river in a dair and equitable manner to develop our respective countries. However if anyone thinks we are going to agree to be beholden to a colonial agreement between the Britain and her colonies over OUR waters, then it means you don't understand why we have always remained independent.
Regardless the talks are far from over so you should stop trying to make things look bleak just to get some attention for your posts. You have potential, do better.
