Thank you so much. Yes I will post of the cap done. I mostly have pics but will share them. I’m having the boat repainted and will make a few videos of this process
Rough. Recovering from shoddy work is expensive. You persevered and can now safely enjoy using. In time the boat will only look better with further improvements. $$$$$$$$. Time.
All I have to say is lesson learned I am restoring a 1989 Sunbird Center console and doing everything myself. And everything is just how I want it and done right the first time! the Coosa Board was a damn good idea!
Hang in there it'll be a good one and you've come so far and done well. I purchased a 20 flats boat almost identical circumstances you did that I've got to start on for my daughter Keep us posted with the finished product.
Great looking job on the floors but I might have installed at least a 85 gallon tank. Not many people restore a boat and hire all the work not sure it would be a good deal over getting a newer boat. I would also suggest changing the console door to a full height door so you get to your switches and maybe install a head for long days in the boat and family comfort. Dude no one will ever totally clean a boat so good luck on that anyway happy boating.
I bought a boat last year with newly installed fuel tanks only to have them installed completely wrong. For example they used "Great Stuff" to foam them in complete disaster I have since had to re-do almost everything that they had "re-done". Lots of shoddy work out there when you find the right guy to work on your boat stick with them.
A good name for the boat would be the money pit the thing is in 86 or 87 I forgot what year you said that was a boat like that from dusky on a trailer was probably less than $5000
That’s looking sweet! Just curious why you didn’t work on it yourself. I’m doing a boat project for the first time and yea it’s taking me a while but I’m keeping prices down doing it myself and learning everything I can from videos
Had a similar but WORSE experience with a 1987 256 (new 278), floor was soft and tanks were leaking, with 2 1996 ficht 175s, for $2000 trailer included we couldn't pass up on the deal. After all doing the floor yourself isn't too difficult either, kill 2 birds with 1 stone... Oh how wrong we were. Took the console off, cut out the entire floor. There it was, one of the stringers was completely cracked in half. So at that point we're like screw it, full rebuild. Transom was also a little soft so we redid the ENTIRE boat out of coosa/honeycomb. Absolutely ZERO wood anywhere. Plastic fuel tank. 5 years later just last week we had our first water trial. It wasn't 5 years of full work, it was more like 1.5 as it was on the backburner most of the time. And when it wasn't, nothing but problems lol. Engines had issues, and knowing how impossible fichts are to properly repair we jumped on a pair of 250 Yamaha HPDI's we got super cheap ($2000 for the pair), which also needed a lot of maintenance (4 years sitting) but hell, a Yamaha is a Yamaha. Whatever you put in you'll get out of it. Also changed the console from the original Dusky (it had way too many holes in it and honestly it is a very ugly console this day and age), with a Contender console and hardtop. Honestly it's a lot of work but in the end of the day we have a practically new boat that cost 1/5 what it would've otherwise. Only reason why it took so long was finding a fiber worker that wasn't on crack out here in Miami (once we realized we would never be able to finish the fiberglass work ourselves) to finish laying the stringers and do the floor.
I'm looking to do the same as you and find an older Dusky hull to refit. I'm going to assume it's going to need new stringers, deck and transom for the sake of budget estimate. If you dint mind me asking, how much did it cost for new stringers and floor?
It depends who does it. Labor is the most they charge you for. One sheet of coosa is about 400 now. For my stuff it was about 4k for floors and stringers
now you know why they're out of business. they don't know what they're doing and don't care. but I'm sure they charged you like it was a yacht finish. I have had mechanics do that to cars I have had. had one place put a lien on my car because it had sat for 6 months, but they never touched it. (it disappeared in the middle of the night lol)
@@billwallenstein3387 actually Dusky still uses wood in today’s build. I rebuilt my boat with coosa meaning my boat should never rot. Dusky doesn’t even offer composite for the whole boat when you order.

You’ve got a hell of a great attitude and patience with that company. I’m sorry they returned the boat in that condition, I would be pissed!
Love the video captain, love to see more of the restoration of your 1986 dusky with the cap getting redone and painted 👍👍

I didn’t have the time and I’m a little of a perfectionist when building stuff I get obsessed if it’s not cut right or put right
Damn. I wish I knew you personally before all of this. I would’ve talked you into getting a larger fuel tank.
Hey man, You ain’t the only one. I’ve got 50k in my 5k boat lol
Its been ruff but worth it

Coming out well takes a ton of work, I know the pains, the project I have on my channel can get overwhelming at times.
Yes it can best of luck to you
I’ve never taken a ride on a Dusky. Is it a fairly dry ride?
yes it really is. I'm doing a fishing trip this weekend weather permits and will record it
if you dont mind me asking how much did it cost to do the stringers and floor in all coosa board?
It was about 3k with labor

@@Marinelifeboats pretty much a bargain considering that boat is over 100k brand new.
@@monster-pq7ln new Dusky is about 60k and they use wood still so yes I believe it’s worth it
How much was the cost of the flooring and foam work
flooring was 2k and foam was 5
I just got one for free running it need restoration is it worth it 1986 no walk around has a cabin
They go for 68k new you can probably restore it for 30k and you make it the way you like. Thats my opinion

How much did dusky charge you for the console?
to much money it was 2500 with the upgrades I put in
Dang that’s robbery, thanks for the response tho. Good job on the boat.
How much u end up in it
I’m not done with it yet but with motor and all off the top of my head about 25k including the purchase of boat
Insure it then go to Cuba
You like birds?
Nice, next time do the work your self, that is why I learn first and the buy the boat.
just buy a 15 year old boat that doesn't need all this ? your exceeding the value of the boat
Dusky boats “no wood no rot” hogwash
Explain yourself ? How does composite material rot ?
@@Marinelifeboats Dusky Marine’s motto is “no wood no rot” yet that’s what we see in older Dusky’s ! Comprende????

OMG, you wasted so much money and time. Just stop putting anything else on that money pit.
