@@metalman4393 I've since softened on this stance but yeah more underappreciated than he should be imo. He's far better than basically every pop fiction writer and he's still treated as just some cheap sf writer by the literary critics for the most part.
I've just read Hyperion books, and I'm looking for his interviews about it and I'm really shocked there are basically no interviews of his at all. Such a shame, he really deserves infinitely more attention than he receives... He's an amazing writer.
Dan Simmons is a fantastic author. I'm halfway through Hyperion and that book is Chef's kiss. He's already my favorite author. Looking forward to try reading everything he ever wrote.
Read the 'Hyperion Cantos' and just finishing 'Olympos' (sequel to the masterpiece, 'Ilium'). This guy can write. Literary stylist, big imaginative ideas, able to fuse 'canonical' literature (Canterbury Tales, Iliad, etc.) with science fiction. Truly sui generis.
After reading the first two Hyperion novels, I get the impression he'd rather have been a poet but realized there's little money in it. One could make a case that his character, Martin Silenus, may be a self portrait in some respects.
Hello dan I never know how much of the Utube comments channel’s owner are reading, but since I am to be winning the lottery soon I am looking forward to meet you in the flesh to discuss the adaptation right of carrion comfort. Best of regards, Winnie

Why can't Dan Simmon's novel become movies ? Even computer adventure games would be welcome in the world of science fiction and/or horror. Fallout 3 is a perfect example of sci fi adventure game. Mr. Simmons' and the developer would make millions.
because the book is so long, complex and would require intense CGI. It just isn't possible in a single movie. Maybe like netflix shows with an episode per pilgrim tale

Reading hyperion, I do feel like the guy uses the thesaurus a little too often lol. Also weirdly everyone kept raving on about the priest's tale.but it was actually the one I enjoyed least together with the Poet which is a cool character esp the satyr stuff but I hate poerty so much.. Also can't imagine hyperion anything other than as a pretty ugly planet. I know it's tiny but I really hated that he mentions green in the colour of Hyperions sky. It literally colored the rest of my imagination with a dark blue / greenish sky. He says the sky is LAPIS? ...... that's a very saturated but rather dark blue. Dark blue with a tinge of green as the daytime sky? I swear it messes with my mind. Again I know it's small but it really really really bothered me.
Well, to quote the great Mr. Simmons himself: That could've been more enlightening..... useless interviewer.... BTW Drood ain't a patch on The Terror...
It took me years to finish all the 'Hyperion' novels, i can't say they're the best science fiction that I've ever read, they get boring fairly quickly and needed a good hard editing before publication.
most underrated novelist of all time
He's run afoul of the Pax, er, I mean, the PC police, so he'll stay underrated...
@@Zedul he is the best in a generation.
Did you mean ost overrated? Or maybe the most Lapis Lazuli?
Is he underrated? I thought he was famous and much appreciated.

This guy writes kick ass epics about science fiction and horror. One of the great ones I think.
Hyperion is an absolute masterpiece, and there isn't one interview with Simmons about it!

One of the most underrated writers ever.
The way he talks is the way he writes it's so trippy to hear.

Reading “Carrion Comfort”.
Great book so far.
This man is fuckin' epic. There was time when i was just sick with hyperion cantos. Read and re-read it countless times. Currently reading "Terror"

@@pabloraindogarcia8107I’m reading the second one atm. It’s great. What’s your favorite out of the 4?
@@twiss9341 the third by far, endymion
I want all of his books in hardcover. Will work for free :D
the interviewer is completely clueless. He's like "uh yeah ok". He completely missed Simmons' joke. >.>
I always thought that Dan Simmons would have green skin, antennas in his head and communicate telepathically...
Surprise me that he's actually human.

The man
Lovely lad!
are they ever gonna make a movie hyperion, fuck it, they are making such stupid stories into movies...i would sooo love to see hyperion filmed
Why so they can ruin it and try to jam the first two books into one shitty movie? No thanks.
They could and should make it into a mini series, maybe 7 to 8 episodes. That would be awesome.
