I heard that Dobers are really quiet, "looks could kill" dogs, but I've always wanted one because of how regal they look. Also, the short fur, absolutely, no need for so much grooming.
Funny enough, I had a Bernese mountain dog named Loki as a child. He was so sweet and loving towards everyone, so my parents and I joked that if anyone tried to rob us, he would welcome them in. The summer before my senior year of high school, my dad and I heard a loud/deep bark and growl from downstairs at 3am. It was a bark we had never from Loki. We go downstairs, and he is barking at the window and we saw 2 teens we're running from the house. Dad was like, "well I'll be, you will guard the house." Love you lots Loki. Thanks for protecting us ❤️
My friend (a bermese mountain dog) only did that deep scary bark once in her life. Trembling with fear, she placed herself between her human and the threat and let out a mighty boof. It was a snowman.
My family's border collie Pippin would do the exact same thing. All the neighbor kids loved him and he almost never barked (unless he saw a moose) but if you were sus, he would go off. I remember him growling at two guys who were being really creepy while I was on a walk with him...pretty sure he got treat when he got home. Some dogs just know, it is wild
I have a Husky/German Shepherd hybrid and his bark totally changes depending on the situation. His barks are high and whining to me when he wants something, but as soon as there’s a stranger lurking about his bark goes down like, 5 octaves, and he seems to get bigger (his fur fluffs up). It was startling when it first happened, lol. I’ve always had small dogs, he was my first big dog.
@@sophfro Oh man, a dog named Pippin, reminds me to that movie The Meg, when the Chinese bride calling for her dog named Pippin like a million times, LoL. 🤭❤ I hope you also have one named Merry...
This is so perfect! Our neighbors sadly got robbed one year at Christmas and the videos show their 2 Goldens following the robbers about wagging their tails and generally being very pleased to have visitors. They didn't even bark once 👀😮
I don't know what kind of Doberman you had but we had two that were definitely not like that lol. They loved their people so much that they were super protective at least for show. One of them it was all show and if you just had the guts to walk up to a 100-lb pissed off dog and pet it He would be your friend 😂
Dobermans, Pitbulls, and Rottweilers can pretty much get by on protecting your house by sheer presence alone. Their clout for being "violent" breeds (which isn't the case if you're a good owner to them) is enough to make any robber turn tail and scramble.
I used to know a guy who bred Dobermans. He had "Beware Of The Dog" signs all over his property. I was scared to go near the fence, so I avoided it. Until one day I had no choice but to get from where I was to where I needed to be meant walking right past his yard. Cute little Doberman puppies crowded up to the chain link to say hello. I walked quickly to avoid meeting momma. Then it happened, she saw me, saw how close I was to her babies and came to the fence. Turns out, nicest dog I ever met. Let me rub her head over the fence and pet her babies through the fence. I started taking that route all the time, and loved interacting with that doggie family every time they were out. I miss those dogs. P.S. The guy was pretty cool, too. He was in the yard one time, saw me engaging with his animals, came over, and we talked dogs for about 20 minutes. Awesome guy with great pets.
honestly the only reason a dog would be super angry or aggressive would be because of how the owner treats them. i imagine the owner of that dog family was amazing

Yes. My dad was k9 for the police so we had our share of police dogs. Also guest police dogs and police dogs in training. We never locked the doors. Perhaps this upbringing with shepherds has made me not afraid of dogs. I have never met a dog I was afraid of mainly because I know when to leave them be and their body language and eyes. That isn't to say I couldn't be afraid of a dog but I love shepherds. They are excellent dogs.

My malamute mix likes to wait until I'm having a nice conversation with someone, then start talking too. Then get louder, and shriller... Until someone pays attention to her. She doesn't bark much, unless it's fetch time. She has a love hate relationship with frisbees. I always imagine her inner dialogue is like "eviscerate!"
Can attest for the German Shepherd. I had a 135lb German Shepherd and he lived in our detached garage. One morning he seemed particularly happy and I went into the garage and someone had tried to break in overnight. He left behind a bloody jacket with a torn sleeve. They don't play with intruders 😂
I have a 110 pound black German Shepherd and had a similar experience. Based on how excited, happy, and eager mine was to show me his handywork though, I honestly believe that, to him, that experience WAS "play time". Maybe a darker and more bloody version than most think people think of, but most definitely seemed like play time. I have a strong feeling the person who broke in didn't feel the same way. Oh well... that evening, I cooked him a top of the line, thick, fresh from my butcher seasoned steak, green beans, and mashed potatoes made from scratch... my pup understood how good of a job he did after that dinner! Lol
I had a pure black, wolf/german shepherd/chow. Because I myself was chiller than the winter snow in antartica, he was chill. but he would menance anyone that came into the house, even if they were guests. He wouldn't go crazy, but he would make sure you understood, I was not to be touched.

Dad was like, "well I'll be, you will guard the house."
Love you lots Loki.

Doberman: “I only need one stare to change your whole career.”
Honestly you got me in the first half fr.

I have a 110 pound black German Shepherd and had a similar experience. Based on how excited, happy, and eager mine was to show me his handywork though, I honestly believe that, to him, that experience WAS "play time".
