  • On this week's Chat Log, Lauren and Mollie talk with Tyler Wilde about the traditional topic of debate for this decade: yellow paint on climbable ledges in games. Players say they're sick of it; developers say it's necessary for showing players the way. What do we say? Well, we're not above having our own little debate about it, that's for sure.

I played Pacific Drive a week ago and they have a few DOZEN settings that allow you to switch almost every aspect of the game between realistic or "helpful". I think developers should really start adding those settings in going forward. Basically a way to turn off the yellow paint if you want to be more immersed. The Ghost Recon games also an immersive mode as well that took almost all the guidance out of the gameplay.

Yellow paint and tape is the one thing I don't like about modern Resident Evil games. Correct traversal and item pickups already could not be any more obvious. Let gamers think a little.

Original tomb raider games didn't need yellow paint. It was better when you had to experiment on where to go and explore a bit.

yea its super lame how games are too ambitious, maps are too larger and empty, colors that treat us all like 3 year olds, and then the games are all lacking content and/or broken for months or years after launch. Havent bought a brand new "AAA" game since THPS 1 + 2 came to STEAM, and before that GTA Trilogy and before that DOOM Eternal AND BEFORE THAT i dont even remember lmfao

“It causes discourse on social media.”
I have never once seen anyone complain about this nonsense. Who cares… it’s trivial, petty nonsense to complain about. First world gamer problems.

I don't like it, it's immersion breaking. Should be off by default and able to turn on as an assist.
