I would really like to do this one day. Thanks
Pretty cool!
You should have flat washers under the wing nuts to span the slot 😊
exactly what I was going to add.
Another great project!
Thank you!
Thanx
Wondering if a small spirit level on the paddle would help novices....
Very interesting. I particularly enjoy the tidbits of historical information you included.
I know some workers have soaked their dowels in mineral oil overnight or longer before cutting threads. Did you do anything along those lines?
Other than the threading, it actually looks like a pretty straightforward build. Thanks for sharing.
John, thanks so much! Yes, it's much easier making wooden screws if you first soak the dowels (and the nuts) in mineral oil. You can also use mineral oil wax polish for hard to reach areas. Here's a video I did a couple of years ago on how to make wooden screws for more info: ua-cam.com/video/C-GLfX4FOXg/v-deo.html
@@darbinorvar Thank you very much. I ordered the thread box/tap and am eager to start building.
I would love to find a tap and die set like that from China, Linn... 😕
You don't find them here in Brazil... And when you do, they are REALLY expensive. 😕
Well... I'm going to keep looking for them!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
That's too bad, next up figuring out other ways to make a wooden screw :)
I've never built one, but The Woodwright's Shop had at least one episode showing the construction of a threadbox, (ua-cam.com/video/BV4cADdZ6wY/v-deo.html) and I recall another making a tap from a metal bolt. Best wishes.
