    Thanks a million times over--clearly understood and got me started on OBS!! One comment on the black and white (weak color) comment you got: Using my cheapo usb capture card with HDMI coming out of my VCR, I selected FHD Capture as my source. I didn't have a problem, but but discovered that clicking on that item I could adjust SATURATION under Config Vid Properties. I gave me a nice slider to adjust. Hope this helps someone!

    The issue with the video recording looking B&W instead of color may be related to copy protection used by commercial video tapes. I haven't had a chance to test this myself but I recall similar problems when trying to copy from VHS directly to another VHS.

    Hi your video really helped thank you.
    The problem with mine is that the vhs on obs is changing the video. Its making the top off the video go to the bottom and bottom of the video go to the top, but the video on a tv is working fine. Would really no on how to make it better.

    Great video! I’m having one issue with OBS though. When I set Audio Monitoring for the Audio Input Capture, I can hear audio during the recording but the audio doesn’t get recorded. If I set Monitor Off, I can’t monitor the audio but the audio records fine. Is there something I could try? I’m using Windows 11. Thank you.

    Hi! Very good your explanation. I ask you: On some vhs tapes, there is like a flicker, not all the time; but it is annoying. Do you know if OBS can solve that? Thanks!

    • @TechThatDoesntByte
      @TechThatDoesntByte  3 роки тому

      Hi Carlos. I've done some research on the flickering issues that some people are having and most of the time it's caused by the capture card. You can try changing the video settings in OBS, although it might not fix the issue. I would also suggest to try use a different set of A/V cables. Personally I have not encounter the flickering problem, but I wish there is a solution to the issue.

    Question: I'm using a near identical video capture device with OBS. In the audio mixer, the Peak Programme Meter is constantly lit up to the red area, even when video is not playing. The black dot Vu-meters stay in place, with the audio playing on top of them, and only by lowering the volume can I get it in the green. Could there be audio noise in the device that I'm not hearing?

    Hey there, thank you for uploading these still in 2021 and making issues with this tech feel a little less hopeless. I have watched the other videos for this and have just tried everything in this video as well in order to get this to work, but although my video plays and records fine, my audio DOES play when I start the vhs tape on the monitoring screen, but no matter what I cannot seem to record any audio with the video, resulting in every clip successfully recording video without sound. At first I was getting a higher pitched clicking effect in the audio when playing it that would then appear on the recording, with actually SOME audible recorded sound but no more than an unintelligible buzz of static when noise in the video would occur. I'm not sure if it is some setting I have missed but I have now spent several hours playing with audio settings on both OBS and my computer, including everything mentioned in this video and have still gotten nowhere. I know the microphone through the USB works too as it gives full, clear audio when monitored. Just wondering if there is anything else you would suggest I try to be able to record the audio. Thank you!!!

      Hi Gavin. I've been trying to replicate the issue on my end but no luck. One thing I would suggest is trying with a different software. Debut Video Capture is one I tried using before to capture my VHS (I didn't like the interface). If you're able to record audio with Debut Video Capture then it's possible that it's an OBS issue. I hope this helps! Let us know how it goes.

    • @TechThatDoesntByte
      @TechThatDoesntByte  3 роки тому +1

      One more thing. Debut Video Capture records the audio, but it doesn't let you monitor the audio while recording. I wasn't able to do that in my testing.

    Helloo! Thank you so much for this video. It really helps. However, I´ve been trying to get my vhs to show cause now the only thing I see is the blue screen. My camera comes up as USB2.0 PC Camera and I can select it. However, when I start playing my video the screen stays blue... the strange thing is that it used to work fine a couple of months ago on the same laptop and with the same device. Do you have any tips? Much appreciated!

    That 480x320 setting flattens out the picture too much (flatter heads etc.). I recommend at least 640x480.

    Hey! I followed everything you did step by step and am still unable to get audio. Could it be b/c my VCR only has one audio output slot? Not sure that would make a difference, but there's only places for the white and yellow cord.

    • @TechThatDoesntByte
      @TechThatDoesntByte  3 роки тому

      Hi Jen. It shouldn't make difference if you only have one audio output. Can you check if an audio track is selected in the recording settings? Does it look similar to the image below?

    My major issue has been the output videos being "interlaced." No matter what i do they always come out with the interlacing showing on the video, and then I end up having to run it through Adobe Media encoder to "de-interlace." Any suggestions on how to get the output video to come out deinterlaced from the get-go? Thanks!

    I am working to set OBS up first, without the capture card. I can not get a A.V. Source. I only have two options, HP Truevision HD and OBS Virtual Camera as a source.
    Thanks so very much!

      Hi Momzilla. The program will work the same even if you don't plug in the capture card. You might need to allow OBS to access your capture card. I made another video about this issue. Let us know if the solution doesn't work.

    By default, OBS does not deinterlace the captured video. Therefore the resulting video looks terrible when there is rapid movement or shaky camerawork. The software allows you to set up deinterlacing and offers numerous deinterlace algorithims. Unfortunately, none of these deinterlacing algorithms are good. The result you get from using the software that's bundled with the USB capture device is much better. OBS offers many interesting options, however, because of it's poor selection of deinterlacing options, the end results are poor. You're better off using the device's bundled software.

    Hey there! I've had no luck having the video show up whatsoever! I bought the Diamond VC500 converter and I'm able to capture the sound but no luck with the video at all! :( I tried using the diamond ez grabber software but it did not work - so I decided to move over to OBS but still no luck, how do I get that USB 2.0 to come up and the blue box? Could it be a faulty converter?

    • @TechThatDoesntByte

      Hi Nour. You'll need to allow OBS to access the capture card as camera. Can you try going into Start > Settings > Privacy > Camera and then allow apps to access your camera?

      It should work on Windows 7 as long as you have an older version of OBS. I believe the current version of OBS does not officially support Windows 7. You can find an older version of OBS on their download page.

      Hi there. Sorry for the late response! I've been trying to replicate the scenerio you are seeing. Unfortunately I couldn't replicate it. The first thing I would recommend is try using a different set of A/V cables and see if that fixes the issue. The second thing I would recommend is try re-installing the drivers for your easycap capture card and also try using that capture card on another computer(if you have a second computer). If you still see the colored strips issue then it might be the capture card that is causing the issue. I would recommend getting a different brand for your capture card.
