it’s nine eleven today. i remembered this song and had to come back to it. utterly heartbreaking yet warming at the same time. may those poor, brave, heroic, souls rest.
We met, of all places, in front of Gristides, some freakishly cold winter's day. I had on several unflattering layers of wool. He slipped on the ice with his grocery bags full, So I rescued some Fruit Loops he dropped by the curb and he made some remark that my smile was superb I thought that was sweet and I started to go and he said "Hey, whatcha doing tomorrow?' 'Because I'll be here at the corner of Bleaker and Mercer tomorrow at 7. If you want to meet up, I'll be waiting right here, and in case there are two fellas waiting for you, my name's John." He waved and then he was gone. Needless to say I went back there to meet him mostly to see if he'd show, and there he was out in the cold with his jacket pulled tight. He took me to dinner and kissed me goodnight. The next week we went to this terrible play. And the week after that drank hot chocolate all day. And suddenly, eight or nine months had flown by when he said "Hey, whatcha doing the rest of your life?' 'Because I'll be here right beside you as long as you want me to be. There's no question. There is nothing I've wanted so much in my life. This might sound immature but I'm totally sure you're the one." And we had just begun. We got hitched in September, our favorite month, with a rock band that played in this old synagogue. And we bought an apartment on West 17th street and talked about children and getting a dog. Our first anniversary came in a flash and we promised to take the day off. He had to stop into his office that morning, and so I went walking uptown to this bakery I know. When I heard on the street what I thought was a joke till I noticed the sirens and saw all the smoke. So I'm running back home with this feeling of dread to the voicemail he left with the last words he said. I'm sorry, I don't mean to ruin your evening by bringing up all of this stuff. You're probably wondering why I even called you tonight. Well today something happened that spooked me alright. I saw this storm cloud of papers fall down from the sky, and I thought of that day and I started to cry. When as sure as I breath I heard John clear as day saying "Hey, you're allowed to move on. It's okay.' 'Because I'll be here even if you decide to get rid of my favorite sweater. Even if you go out on my birthday this year instead of staying at home letting all of life's moments pass by. You don't have to cry.' 'Because I'll be here when you start going back to the places we went to together. When you take off my ring and you let yourself smile. When you meet some handsome and patient and true. When he says that he wants to be married to you. When you call him one night and he meets you downtown. When you finally answer him yes." Yes. Jason, I will marry you. I will give you my heart. It has taken so long, but I'm ready to start. Right now John's whispering 'Congrats' in my ear cause I finally let myself tell you That I will be here.
it's because the original song is a bit different and I'm assuming they copied and pasted the wikipedia lyrics or something. I think the cover is better, though.
Can I say, the changes from the original song actually make the song stronger to me? Like, the change in the trigger that reminded the character in the song of John is a hell of a lot stronger here since it's effectively created a bookend to their story and sets up the character's decision to marry her boyfriend rather than just having a storm of papers come out of nowhere to remind her of what happened. I'm assuming Ordinary Days actually explains the paper storm better but still, I like the switch up
I like the changes because while the song is obviously about 9/11, it could also be applied to a wide variety of other situations that would be just as heartbreaking
Glitchy Pix Actually, during 9/11, papers were flying out from the broken Twin Towers. I agreed with you guys at first, but then I did some research into 9/11. The Froot Loop connection does rip your heart out, but @Meredith Ludlow, the actual version is more connected to 9/11.
Such an amazing song. You sing this with such emotion, I love it. My friend sang this today and had our whole Musical Theatre class in tears. Since then I've not stopped listening.
Guys these is her song and her voice dont come telling about Lams, i assure you that the animatic is great but please give her some credit. Is her voice and effort too, c'mon guys Great job Rebecca, i adore your voice
Changing the lyrics from the stormcloud of papers to the fruit loops is Maybe the best choice this cover had? Your singing is beautiful and now I can't listen to any other cover of the songs without thinking your version is better. Too bad this isn't on Spotify.
This is a really great cover! I don't know why it doesn't have more views/likes. You have a wonderful voice and it's perfect for the part. Keep it up. :)

Its abt 9/11. The storm clouds and the papers represent the smoke and the business papers flying out of the windows of The twin towers. The song is abt a woman and her husband and they got married one year exactly before the terrorist attack of 9/11. He had to step into his office that day (9/11) and she decided to go for a walk. She saw the fire and smoke and ran home to a voicemail I belive was him saying he would be home soon from the context of the story. So now she is mourning the loss of her husband for more that a year now and is hearing her husbands "voice" telling her that it's time to move on. And he will always be there for her no matter what. Once she gets married again she hears her previous husband John's "voice" saying I will be here. That's just a theory from the top of my head. And now that I think abt it,this song is horribly sad.

Leah Jamieson I think there are some lyrics that are not in the song? (sorry idk how to explain, bad english)
it's because the original song is a bit different and I'm assuming they copied and pasted the wikipedia lyrics or something. I think the cover is better, though.
Leah Jamieson some of the words are wrong and it confused me
Literal Trash Whoa we have the same name
Wow that “ With the last words he said” hurts oh my it’s so good
It’s all very sad, but I would like to know what this fictional yet also real character said in this voicemail to his wife before he died
Yo, I'm John Laurens, in the place to be,
If you have a Hamilton, then, *TELL HIM TO KISS ME*

Search for the (BBC I think) television broadcast of 9/11, you can see a lot of "particles" falling after the first impact, they are tons of paper.
Such an amazing song. You sing this with such emotion, I love it. My friend sang this today and had our whole Musical Theatre class in tears. Since then I've not stopped listening.
Holy crap cant handle the feels. Just cried like a freakin baby

That's just a theory from the top of my head. And now that I think abt it,this song is horribly sad.
My eyes are just sweating I promise. i PrOmIsE.
Idk why but the reference to the foot loops always hits harder than the og lyrics
I'm here from that land animatic hehe
I'm at the 911 memorial right now. Heartbreaking.
BRILLIANT!!!
*DON'T TOUCH MY FRUIT LOOPS YOU THEIF*
it's from the lams animatic sorry...
Can I be honest?
This song is literally more sad than "blow us all away", "stay alive reprise" and "Quiet uptown" COMBINED
im here in the 18th annivesary of 9 11 and im crying ok
aaaand it’s 9/11 todayyyy
the songs fucking heartbreaking
This cover is so much better than the original
I cry
Q sad cada vez q la escucho lloro pero me encanta la canción
Jason after listening to this like: 👁👄👁 WTF!??? But also great song!
Beautiful job!
wow, hey, why'd it have to be tears?
woah, i never knew that much people came here from the lams animatic.
Wait
W-what happened to my sweet John? *sobs*
This is underrated. Man I almost cried because of this, which is rare. I’m here from the lams animatic, which also made me cry.
Wait, why did everyone come from that Lams animatic?
*I mean... I came from there too...*
wait why is this so recent
MP3?
THIS IS SO SAD
I just forgot what the song title for this was since I haven't listened to this in like 4 years and I wanted to listen to this again so I literally searched up "that 9/11 song" and i found it what the fuck
My name’s John LAURENS IN DA PLACE TO BE

Your voice is beautiful.

Why does this remind me of lams so much
It’s so
SADDDDDDDDD
Who else is here from the Undertale Frans? ;-; It's sad
THIS SONG DESTROYED ME HELP
I feel like you’re better than the original
My eyes are peeing
Why is this song about the twin towers? What is that?
Melanie Sue Daniel 9/11, a national tragedy for America, a terrorist attack that took down the former tallest buildings in Manhattan in 2001 (so if you’re here from freesmooches, John would have died to that)
Inferno Nyan yep I got here from freesmooches
Also, the original line was supposed to be "I saw this storm cloud of papers fall down from the sky", which referenced 9/11 as well.
Well I didn't needed my heart anyway
*loud crying*
This video is gonna be viewed a lot again because of the remake of the animatic...
Why did you change the storm clouds of paper to frootloops. That ruins so much of the meaning behind the song.
Eevee Breezy I think it’s the best choice ever 😂😂 It shows that John kept the fruit loops that she had picked off the curb for him so long ago, that they meant something him. He wanted to cherish how they had met with a box of fruit loops.
shit i thought this was the origonal
uwu
Wait so he died from a car crash
Howed you know ?????????
no. twin towers my love
sorry I just didn't understand what happened
it's okay dw
It's about someone losing their loved one in the incident of 9/11 and moving on afterwards.
I’m here from Lame animatics
