So many people misunderstand this song. It is from FAME and is about unrequited gay love. The character Montgomery is singing about his love for Ralph, who is not interested. It is a song of great sadness and pain and loneliness. Hence, the way you are portraying it here is actually quite contrary to the original intent of the film and character's journey. It is not a song of happiness but rather isolation and pain. Given this is set in 1980 and a period of even greater oppression of gay people it carries great significance and meaning for. gay people of that generation.
