It's gardening on a grand scale and for Attienne, the opportunity to investigate a career in the great outdoors is too good to pass up. Under the guidance of mentor David Miller from City Parks in Auckland, Attienne soon discovers there is a whole lot more variety and skills required than she imagined. "I didn't realise gardening was such hard work!" she says.
Amenity horticulture involves keeping parks and public spaces, or perhaps even historical locations, looking their best. So that could involve anything from physical weeding to using equipment and machinery for maintenance or a new development. This is an excellent career for people who love nature and the outdoors.
