    Great information! How many designs do you suggest you start with in a portfolio before approaching companies?

    • @AGFDesignStudio

      Great question! I think it depends but I’ve heard 10-12. I think it’s also about the variety of categories you can showcase as well. Do whatever you’re comfortable with and know you’ll only grow your portfolio over time.

    Thank you so much, Alanna! This was extremely informative and just what I was looking for. Great presentation. Do you know if there is a market for blank note cards with illustrations on the front? Thank you!

      Hi! Thanks for watching 😊 And there definitely is! You don’t have to do the inside copy for the card or additional illustrations though you can negotiate for more money usually if you do create those as well.

    Great video! I am currently working on building my portfolio. I’m really interested in getting into licensing greeting cards. When you create your cards do you design both the front and inside?

    • @AGFDesignStudio
      @AGFDesignStudio  Рік тому +1

      That’s a great question! I don’t usually but it’s definitely great to show if you have ideas for the inside as well. Especially if that includes not only designs but original copy ideas 😊 It’s like a nice bonus and it’ll set you a part from others I think as well.

    This came at the right time! Thank you Alanna ☺️ I have a question: Can you sell the same greeting card on multiple websites?

    • @AGFDesignStudio
      @AGFDesignStudio  2 роки тому +1

      I’m glad it was good timing ☺️ Good question! You can definitely sell the same design on multiple websites as long as there’s no exclusivity deal in place so just double check but, I have definitely reused designs before

      How do you get the art license? How do you go about contacting companies? Is it less expensive to sell on Etsy compared to Amazon?

    What if a person does die cutting for greeting cards? Does a given company just print them digitally?
    Can we use die cuts or do you think they are licensed?
    I also thought about making my own dies via design on computer/criket or on my own.
    I am also picky about the paper they would use. Many cards at dollar tree are beautiful but i don't care for the paper and not much embossing.

    Hi Alanna! Loved this video! I have the same class and definitely need to finish it. Summer break goals!
    So…for your own licensing portfolio, do you typically start off brainstorming what could be licensed? Or, do you create something and then think, “You know…I could license this!” Or is it a mix? I’m curious because I personally still have difficulty determining what’s licensable and not. Usually someone else is telling me, yeah that would be good for (insert product here)…and I never would’ve thought of that. I have a little cheat sheet I got from a company to use for them which is way easier for me since my radar appears to be dull for this part of the process. But do you have any thoughts on intentionally (or unintentionally) building your portfolio?
    I would have no idea what work to try to shop around to any company aside from the typical Happy Birthday/Merry Christmas, etc.
    Forgive my propensity toward being verbose. 😬

      Hi Stacey! Thanks for watching ☺️ I’m glad you enjoyed the video. In terms of building my portfolio, the great thing about that licensing course is that includes the art licensing portfolio builder. So you can use that as a way of creating your portfolio following those prompts and themes (let me know if you don’t see it). Other than that, I use the major holidays to review my own portfolio. For example I know personally that my licensing portfolio is lacking certain popular themes still like “Congratulations” or “Thinking of You”, and “Father’s Day” to name a few. So I like to think of that and keep it in mind as well. In terms of assessing what’s “licensable” or not, it could really be anything. The cool thing is that it’s pretty broad and you can’t really go wrong even if it’s not text based. It could just be a surface pattern as well. So if you’re creating and you end up liking that piece, I think it could go into your licensing portfolio. It really just gives potential buyers more options to choose from. What works for some might not work for others but I think variety is always great. Sorry for this equally verbose response! 😅

      @@AGFDesignStudio Yes, I probably still have access although I could only print out some of the prompts. They were beautiful and full of color and I needed that printer and ink to teach from home at the time. 😂 But, I also notice most of the stuff I do is just based on what I’m thinking about most at the time. So I like that you’re saying your work can be pretty broad.THAT works for me. If I had to add one more thing to the to do list…

    What kind of percentage can an artist get from their designs and illustrations?
