    Your work is really beautiful. I just found you through your "quitting IG" video - and I'm glad. This was a very useful video! Thank you. And I'd love to know more about this process. It's great that you have a scanner and printer that allows you to manipulate your designs and print your own stock! I just painted some Christmas cards and was thinking it would be lovely to be able to copy some of the designs I made. Even better if I can move elements around and add things together.

    Wow! It is a lot of work to transfer traditional art to digital. I wanted to reproduce some designs for my own use. It would be a whole design, so much easier than putting together so many elements. I just want really nice reproductions of holiday and gift cards to send to friends and family. It is a personal touch to paint every card but it’s a lot of work and not everyone cares enough to keep it. (I have been told my cards are now framed art, so that’s affirming!) .

    • @thebutterflytoadstool
      @thebutterflytoadstool  Рік тому

      Yes it can be, but it depends on your artwork and how much "cleaning up" needs done of the images. That's such a lovely holiday sentiment for your friends and family! Keep up the good work 💕

    • @thebutterflytoadstool
      @thebutterflytoadstool  10 місяців тому

      Thanks for watching, so glad you found it helpful. I use both the ET7700 and the ET2810. The ET7700 is much better in my opinion, I use it for my art prints and greetings cards etc. I got the ET2810 to convert to a sublimation printer for making my mugs. Both are compact sized printer and both are now older styles of eco-tank printers. But out of the two, I recommend the ET7700, however I'm sure the newer versions will be better still. Hope this helps!

    Hi there. My name is Paul and I enjoyed your informative video. It is great to be able to understand the process of creating products from your artwork. May i ask please, i saw you use the A4 scanner to get your art ready for printing. I also noticed that you had a Canon printer. I was wondering, do i need to purchase a scanner seperately or could i use the one on my printer as mine is a printer-scanner that i have. Can you advise if the A4 scanner would have more features than the one i have as it looks like your printer may have a scanner built in too. I saw you take great care to crop and work your art until you were 100% happy with the outcome before printing. I need to understand this too so i am greatful for any advice you can give on this. Thankyou very much. Paul...

    • @thebutterflytoadstool
      @thebutterflytoadstool  Рік тому

      Hi Paul, thank you so much for watching my video and for taking the time to comment. You can use any scanner to scan your work as long as it has the capacity to scan at a high DPI. I bought the separate Epson scanner to use with my laptop, before I had my Epson printer with the built in scanner. The Epson scanner I have is an old version but it can scan at over 1200 dpi and produces very good quality scans so I've kept using it. I'm sure the built in scanner you have will be fine too, just take the time to go through the settings and make sure you are scanning in the highest quality you possibly can. Thanks again!

  • @karinasuarez9981
    @karinasuarez9981 2 роки тому +2

    Hi Dee, your artworks are so beautiful! Thanks for sharing about your process in the videos. Your cards look amazing. I've recently start tuning my artworks into prints and cards. However, I'm disappointed that the conversion into CMYK really changes the brightness and vibrancy of the watercolours. Looking at your lovely products I think I need to invest in a much better scan and a printer because I'm sending to Moo or Vista Print and I can't control the outcome, it's also very expensive. Do you have problems with the changes of CMYK too using your own printer?

    • @thebutterflytoadstool
      @thebutterflytoadstool  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Karina, Thank you so much, I'm so pleased you found the video interesting! I completely understand the struggles of using a printing site as this is how I started too. I also had trouble getting the colours to print out how I wanted them and thats one of the main reasons why I switch to printing my own. Getting my own printer was a game changer, but it wasn't as straight forward as it looks. It definitely took me a while to figure out my print settings but it was worth it in the end. I would advise to really do your research on different printers and scanners, but you don't have to buy the most expensive. I got my scanner second hand and it's been great! 👍 Hope this helps and best of luck to you going forward 💜

  • @dcarbs2979
    @dcarbs2979 Рік тому

    What do you recommend for larger artworks? I bought an A3 scanner for LP (record) sleeves many years ago and it's still working fine but with scratched glass after so long. It was relatively cheap back then (low hundreds) but the next size up (A2 and above) is ten's of thousands of pounds/dollars. At which point scans for fine art would need to be by a pro print shop. I'd prefer to keep that process in-house (done by myself) if possible.

    • @thebutterflytoadstool
      @thebutterflytoadstool  Рік тому +1

      I've never worked on that scale before so I really can't advise. Everyone I know who does uses a professional printing company to create scans of their large work. You can use Photoshop to knit several images together (if you use a smaller scanner to scan the different areas of the artwork, then Photoshop can be used to join them) but this would be quite a time consuming process to get it to match up correctly.

    • @dcarbs2979
      @dcarbs2979 Рік тому +1

      @@thebutterflytoadstool Thanks. I guess at that scale, you're no longer the artist, but the printmaker. Especially considering the expense of the machine in the first place.

    Sorry,but if I had enough money to buy that scanner I wouldn't be a real artist and if I could understand how to use that scanner I'd be a technology expert working in the field of technology.You'll find that REAL artists aren't that good at technology.

    • @thebutterflytoadstool
      @thebutterflytoadstool  Рік тому +35

      Sorry, but I don’t understand your comment. Are you saying that I’m not a real artist because I can use a scanner? Or that you can’t be classed as an artist if you make money from your art? This “starving artist” mentality needs to stop. If an artist constantly thinks that they will never ‘make it’ or never make money from their art, then chances are they won’t. But if you do want to ‘make it’ as an artist AND make money from your art then you need to LEARN new ways to do that. You must take control of your own career, especially as an artist. So, if that means learning how to use a secondhand scanner (I bought mine secondhand from ebay for £38 and learned how to use it myself) then you should do that. An artist journey won’t evolve into a stable career if the artist isn’t willing to invest in themselves or learn new things. I can promise you; you don’t need to be a “technology expert” to use a scanner, and you don’t need to buy an expensive state-of-the-art scanner for the process that I’m sharing in this video. But if you want to turn traditional art into products, then you do need a scanner and you need to know how to use it.
