    I stayed 4 days in Nong Khiaw this year, and went one day to Muang Ngoi. What a very beautiful memory. Time slows down, it's so nice

    I once did that journey as well in 2015. It was really beautiful wonderful journey. And not till you mention your most wonderful boat journey that i realise i was mine too. I was looking for anyone who had post the journey and i found this video. Great journey from Dien Bien Phu to Luang Prabang, coming from Lao Cai.

    I would love to see a video of what the Chu Prong mountains in Gia Lai province on the Vietnam border with Cambodia look like on the Cambodian side. There was a historic battle that took place at the base of Chu Prong mountain in November 1965 between the US Army and the PAVN. The NVA had a huge base camp on the Cambodian side of the mountains.

    Another great video...Thank you for the effort and the intimate view into this part of Laos. I took a similar trip--though in the opposite direction--a few years ago as part of a cycling trip I took from Xieng Khoung to Vientiane. You brought back great memories. Of course, now you've got me trying to figure out how to work this river journey into a planned trip to LPDR in the Fall. Khop Chai Lai Lai!

    Brilliant as always Mark. It's great to see and hear about your adventures as they're well partnered with views on the rapidly changing world, such as the dams. Keep up the great work. 👍👍👍

    Incredible video! Love the 4k stuff. I was there last year too in Nong Khiaw. Please feel privilege that you are one of the last ones soon to take this route by boat. They are about to dam Nam Ou soon, making it impassable by boat.

      Yes. Actually they had already started the dam when we travelled. We had to travel by road from Nong Khiaw to Luang Prabang. More dams coming too as you say.

    Do you have any videos of the Central Highlands of Vietnam? This was a great video.

      @@rustycompasstravel That's wonderful. Can you post link. If you ever are in the border area of Vietnam and Cambodia in future try to get some footage of that area in Cambodia. It's in Ratannakiri province.

    Lot of investment coming in and the end of paradise is on the Horizon. Sadly everyone has wanted their wealth from paradise for centuries . Decades ago my sweat, blood ,toil and tears was fertilizer for plants . My heart desires travel without the load I carried when I was a teenager falling in love with paradise. thanks for your videos .

    Will be crossing from Vietnam to Laos mid September. This trip is at the top of our to do list but am worried if it is possible so late in the wet season?

    You can't catch a boat anymore, can you due to the dams?

    • @rustycompasstravel
      @rustycompasstravel  2 роки тому

      You have to take buses around the dams as I understand it. So yes, different experience these days. That was a very special one....

    Those views are so stunning! Is the hike you did something that people can do on their own, or did you need to do it with a guide? Nong Khiaw is the place I'm most excited to experience in Laos - thank you for this video!!

      You can do that walk independently. It's the main viewpoint and the track starts a short walk from the centre of town.
