  • The camera shows the mid spring run at Blue Spring State Park, where manatees congregate during the winter months when the river temperature in the adjacent St. John’s River drops below 68 degrees. The spring run is a constant 72 degrees year-round making it a vital warm-water sanctuary for manatees in the winter time and is completely closed-off to people. Any people seen in the footage are researchers with special permits. In addition to manatees, a variety of fish such as gar, channel catfish, armored catfish, mullet, tilapia, pacu and tarpon can be seen, as well as the occasional turtle, cormorant and grebe.

This was our favorite swimming hole when I was a teen. We parked in a field and walked a short path through the trees to get there. It was never crowded. There wasn't a boardwalk around it. It had a very cool rope swing. I was afraid to swim over "the boil" for some reason. Good times.

How beautiful these creatures are, it breaks my heart to see the scars on their backs from motorboats not being concerned about the beings that are underwater! This is why they need protection and education for boaters who don’t pay attention! I always said that I would swim with the manatees before I die, I don’t think I’m gonna make it. So I love seeing them here and virtually swimming with them, thank you so much!

Florida lost 1,000 last year and lost 850 this year so far...apparently from starvation. The sea grass they eat has been decimated from chemicals in the water, the run of from herbicides that people choose to spray and farmers use is destroying the manatee population.

Devastating about them starving from chemicals killing the seagrass that they eat.

Stupid invasive fish bother the manatee. I wish they could get rid of them.
