Very helpful information! I'm someone who can't jump into things without a very basic structure so the template you provided is a god-send! On another note, only 3 videos in and this channel is already showing great potential! Looking forward to your future videos.
Obsidian has helped me be so much more organized as a GM! It really helps being able to create an index for quick searching, links relating to similar things, etc.
Simple, practical, actionable. Definitely less daunting than those ideas floating around of the GM being responsible for a whole world and having to write out a story worthy of an academy award. Really good stuff to try out, you could think of a short example session prep to show off how much and how fast one can get by focusing on those elements.
I've found that NPC's provide the most engaging moments of a campaign, but there was a time that I underestimated just how many a sandbox campaign can accumulate.
You're definitely giving Bob world builder in a tavern vibes with how chill, but also helpful your video is! I've subscribed to see what more you have in store for the future!
It also occurred to me that your reference to 'scenes' are a core component to how the cosmere rpg (stormlight rpg) runs it's games and the beta rules have a great outline on how you run 'scenes' as a component of adventuring! Just in case you're interested ofc!
@@verysourdragon I know this isn't everyone's thing, but I definitely think in narrative terms about my games no matter which system I'm running. I dig Sanderson's books but haven't thought to look into the rpg yet, I'll have to check it out!
Hey, I am not that far in yet, but your intro and vibe when talking about the whys and philosophy behind what you wanna teach…? Fucking excellent. Looking forward to seeing more form you!
I'm sorry? How does this video have such little views and channel so little subscribers? This is great quality and highly informative, I hope this channel gets a boost. Obviously subscribed.
I liked a lot of your points you made in this video! I take screenshots of videos I find helpful so whenever you are listing tips, such as what to prep for npcs, I would enjoy a visual element so I can quickly reference the image I took and remember what things you said and come back to the video later if I need a refresher!
Great video. I use stars and wishes for my kids table and they love doing so and always remind me if I forget to do it at the end of the session. Secrets and clues are the toughest for me, they seem to take the most creative effort during prep. Great suggestions, thanks!
Thoroughly wonderful advice here, and advice already helping me in prepping for my next session. Also, those Google Docs will DEFINITELY be getting used for my future prep.
I've got this recurring nightmare where I'm DMing and in the middle of doing a monster's turn, I get constantly interrupted by conditions, auras, saves, or other important on-going effects I'm supposed to know about. Any ideas on how to fix that one?
Sorry Daði, I think the only solution to that is a TPK in the middle of the dream. So you might make some TPKs while you’re awake as practice! (Tell your players sorry in advance from me)
@@zellak-pr7puthis is an underrated comment, I’ve started using “dummed” down monster stats like in shadowdark and my life has never been easier and the players don’t notice any difference, all that matters is your narration!
I have a very different approach, I barely prep anything. I used to prep a lot, but playing GM-less games and getting a better understanding of story structures to write fiction in a pantser style taught me to run my games with a very minimalist prepping. Usually I only have to think about a theme, and everything else will naturally emerge from there. Of course talking with the players about the theme that I would like to explore and thus allow them to make characters that have issues that tie directly into the theme removes the need from the GM to always try to pull the players in, but instead provides the players with the opportunity to play in a proactive manner and further their ow narrative needs. And that leads to a much more personal experiece and thus satisfying games that all that superficial stuf people prep will not account for.
Apologies if the video is a bit quiet! It’ll be fixed in future videos 😊
And thank you for all of your nice words!
did not expect this to come from a channel with 59 subscriberrs! this feels very high quality
I’m just getting started! Lots to come 😉

@@MossyAntler Solid advice, will kill my PCs next session!
Or try an easier ruleset....or just ignore all the extra stuff in the ruleset you play.

So it looks like you have a had made GM Screen? Any chance of seeing how it was made?
I got it on Etsy! Just search “wooden DM screen”
Where can I find that map of toril that you showed for 1 second ?
All of the maps I show are of my own world! I used Wonderdraft to make the world map, if that’s the one you mean. I may share it at some point :)
