From my personal experience, usually the $5 mandated FIPPA fee will get you what you're looking for as long as it is something relatively easy to retrieve and transfer to you. In some scenarios when the request is asking for large volumes of data or other kinds of complicated asks, you might have to pay for the data extraction or extra resources needed to fulfill the request. Depending on the Ministry you are contacting, these FOI requests that incur costs can get denied pursuant to Section 22 of FIPPA. This Section states that if the Ministry has a separate channel to fulfill requests at a cost, the request may be denied - some of the Ministries have such channels.
If I request municipal information under the FOI act and they forwarded it to a third party corporation and they respond by saying they have no information. Is my request considered private and can I make this public
It's simple folks, it's going to cost you a tonne of money and take over a year to receive your expensive information. Deterrence for those trying to get access to free information is best done using these methods. Kind of reminds me how the legal system is built off the same foundation.
How would I word a request for the names, badge numbers and surety bonds of every officer involved in the violent attack on the peaceful protestors of the trucker convoy? Each hid their name tags and badges which was unlawful.
why would you need to pay for something you have the right to and pay taxes to pay for thats not right !!!
