Studio Fortiche needs a lot more exposure and a couple awards to boot honestly.
Seriously. The sheer quality of the animation and how each frame is wallpaper-worthy is nothing short of legendary.
A lot of these companies have bonus systems in place in relation to the IMDB score/ Metacritic score the show receives. They could be on course for a handsome payout judging by the review scores
Maybe several Oscars at the series level with the quality of the animation, the shots, the main and secondary characters, the soundtracks, the plans and the artistic paste. It deserves all of this I think and deserves to be the best 3D animated series for the last decade and more (which doesn't have to fade in front of pixar or disney which clearly outclasses their animation).
@@faolentinminda2407 Oscars doesn't include series. Emmy may include this. I don't think any other animated series this year can compete with Arcane. So it definitely has that in the bag.

Arcane is a MASTERPIECE
Arcane.. How?!? No one would've ever guessed that an animated, Netflix based, league of legends show would be good... Let alone great.. Let alone possibly a top 10 piece of media this decade
Most people thought it would at least be good considering leagues story and cinematics.
Most of us expected animation and art style to be at least good on technical level given how they went about their cinematics over the years but I don't think anyone was prepared for this painterly masterpiece. I've dropped the game around season 2 or 3 (when they were giving out Victory Jarvan for rankeds?) but I'm still subbed to their UA-cam channel just for cinematics they make for championships, season and sometimes for new characters.
i fully expected it to be good
This wasn't netflix based, the whole show is entirely written and made by Riot and Fortiche, Netflix just paid an absurd amount of money to get involved in the project and air it on their plataform

Hollywood is too busy finishing a check-list and filling quotas and they push something like characters, story, writing and dialogue as an afterthought. They don't try to tell the story, they try to push ideological nonsense and use movies as vehicle for said nonsense.
Don't know what's worse, the fact that they may not ever be explicitly stated to be gay/together, since when it's between two girls there's always deniability, or the fact that some people will praise it to be the perfect representation exactly because it's "Subtle".

I discovered Arcane through its intro song „Enemy“ by Imagine Dragons, watched all 9 episodes and I‘m totally blown away. It’s been a long, long time since a movie or series had me this hooked. When I watched the trailer for the first time, I thought that the art-style would need a little time to get used to, but I was very wrong. Being an artistic person myself, the art-style is one of the main reasons why the show is so great. It reminded me of Star Wars: The Clone Wars where you could pause at any given moment and the picture shown could easily be just a drawing someone made. I totally love the roughness in it, the way you can see the strokes of the digital pencil on Jinx‘ or Vi‘s face when the models were colored. It’s just purely awesome and the artists behind it deserve every award that’s possible to give on this earth.
Yes, and I love the way they did the hair.

what could've been was such an amazing score
This video is based on the first 6 episodes and the user reviews were already that high. Now that the season has ended at least for me, I think the ending was even better. Episode 1-6 for me were good but imo not enough to put it to the 9-10 caliber of shows, but the ending definitely did it for me especially the part where Jinx has to choose between Vi and Silco, and in the end Silco died and we may never know if Silco actually care about and love Jinx or not is the best part of the ending and will have viewers keep on talking and discussing for a long time. Also makes Silco such an intriguing character and great "villain" of the show. Not to mention some of the supporting characters like Viktor and Ekko are really good as well.
I understand episode 1-6 are more for setting up the world so that viewers can learn about this world that these characters are in and the situations they are facing so they may seem not as interesting for some, or me at least. But if even ep 1-6 are already at 9.4, 1-9 would be like 9.8 or something. Well done Riot and the studio they patnered with to create this show.
well lets see how S2 wiil end
@@jacquelinej2036 It's not just the audience will never know, but Jynx also will never know for sure. Given her schizophrenic paranoia, she's going to chew on that for a long time.
@@alexfrank5331 True good point.
To this point, Arcane is the best narrative focused cinematic adaptation of a videogame IP ever. People that just like action could like the RE movies more, people that just wanted a fun family experience could like Detective Pikachu or The Sonic movie or Angry Birds more, but nothing beats this for story. Really, nothing else is in the same tier; the closest thing is probably the Castlevania anime, but I think there's still a big gap, as good as that was.
I think there are three reasons why video game adaptations have struggled:
The first is the most obvious - the teams/studios that tried to make them just weren't very good. They didn't hire the right people, took them either too seriously (for something that should be lighthearted and fun or campy) or not seriously enough depending, and just released a lot of bad to average stuff where the hope was the name would carry it.
Second, video games are just so much longer than movies or tv series in terms of run length. Look at the Warcraft movie. How were you ever going to get over 20+ years and multiple games worth of lore into one movie? Even if you are just doing a chunk, how are you going to get a piece that is both compelling and cohesive as a free-standing story, without feeling like a bunch of stuff has been left on the cutting room floor? A single AAA game is going to get laughed off the shelf if it isn't offering over 20 hours of content, and realistically most people are looking for over 40. Even paring that down is going to troublesome more often than not.
Lastly (and most importantly to me); Movies/TV tell their stories differently from Games, so a great VG story doesn't always translate, and the same is true in the other direction too - remember we've had so many terrible VG adaptations of movies. Movies/TV usually tell the best stories when the viewer can take the role as the interested observer - you sit back and take in the spectacle and conflict in front of you. In most VG narratives, you are directly controlling the protagonist; so like it or not, you wind up identifying with them. Because of this, the best VG stories are usually done not by dialogue and exposition, but by interacting with the environment and having the world and the characters' place in it told organically. Imagine how boring a movie would be with no narrator, dialogue or internal monologue, just a camera moving around and trying to tell a story that way. Horror movies can get away with that, but no other genre really can (I also think horror storytelling is the closest to how most VGs do it by no coincidence).
Arcane is taking a unique and beautiful visual style and combining it with stellar voice acting, and telling a story in a way the medium should, rather than trying to shoehorn a VG story into a format that doesn't serve it well. Riot gets a bit of break since LoL doesn't have any internal story so they can't really make that mistake, to be fair. But for any future studios that want to do VG content, this is the way to do it. Use the environment and characters to set the world, but write a story that works in the cinematic experience. Origin stories are a great one, because you can do mostly whatever you want as long as the characters and world end at the state the game begins.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
I think one of the main problems with video game adaptations, is that the game studio doesn't have much control. Usually, the movie studio or television network has creative control, but not so with Arcane.
Your third point is wrong. It's not that the game has a fleshed out story: it actually has. The character themselves have their own lore and stories. We knew this because Riot made these stories.
However, the reason why it feels like the game doesn't connect with these stories is that they retconned it all before. They made it so the game is separate from the story. If you try to combine the story and the game, nothing would make sense. But by separating them into two distinct aspects it's easier to flesh the lore out.
Are there people who unironically like RE movies? I thought it's all people who have crush on Mila Jovovich because there's literally NOTHING else in these movies...
@@ricardofernandez8485 When I say they can't make that mistake, I mean there is no story provided to you by playing on Summoner's Rift. You don't get any organic storytelling that way, so Riot can't make the mistake of trying to feed story to you in the same way. Sure there's tons of lore, but it's all in champion bios, comics, cinematics etc. All those formats tell a story similar to how a TV show does, which is part of why this works.
@@Micromation Meh; the action isn't terrible. They certainly aren't anything to write home about outside of that though.
I hope we get other characters but definitely hoping they carry on vi and jinx’s story if the last 3 eps don’t feel like their story if all wrapped up
yeah season 2 will definitely continue that story
I don't know where they will go with Jinx and VI's story.. I think they should wrap it up next season because Jinx and Vi's lore is almost over while Viktor is half way there. Caitlyn is the only one with a branching arc .. I don't wanna see A Joker/Batman storyline for Jinx/Vi .. its overplayed..
@@fayis4everlove on one hand I agree I think they should wrap up the story in the next season, one halve of me really wants to see where they can go with this, doesn't have to end in some joker batman kind of situation
@@fayis4everlove i think it can't be helped that it will go a batman/joker story since in in-game lore, Caitlyn/Vi are piltover enforcers so yeah i can see it going that way
With how Mel's mother has become a quite influencing character...they can easily tie it up to Noxus story or at least hint it in some way...I hope so we get Noxus too :D
I generally don't like to talk about gender but the producers and animators of this show did a fantastc job of doing what many other shows/movies have tried and failed. Showing useful female characters that aren't useful because they are woman but because they actually worked for where they are. So many movies and series nowadays, especially disney, make woman strong because they are woman. Arcane doesnt do that. The fact that there are strong woman here isn't an important part to the story at a whole and its value isn't overplayed either. Its there though, and its a nice changeup seeing matriarchy not as the focus but as something thats just part of the world.
I agree, this is done so well and should be the poster child for not making gender a part of the plot.
Wait you just made me realize something very important. For a modern show released with a lot of female protagonists, I never once felt like "girl power!" was being shoved down my throat. That's been a MASSIVE issue with shows and movies lately. Just more reason why I love this show. Everyone is written so well and naturally.
@@BoardWalkToke right?!! Vi and powder grew up in a very dark cold world. And they have to be strong in order to survive. There are moments where we think Vi would win and the Bam! She gets knocked out of the fight showing strength and vulnerability at the same time. Most shows or movies would have done the opposite and would fail to do so.
Tbh until you just pointed that out i didnt even realize that. How weird, guess thats what happens when you put your mind at work and write a decent character.
When they don’t make the women Mary Sues because they are a woman. I love it.

I've been casually playing League of Legends when Vi first came out in 2012. Then in 2013 Jinx came out and her event was amazing with the lore. I really loved her gameplay and personality. This show is so crazy, this work is really excellent. It is worth everyone to watch. The motivation of each role is reasonable and the shaping of each role is just perfect
Arcane pretty much shows the error of many previous video game-to-movie/show adaptations,
1) Arcane didn't overwhelm you with characters from the game
2) The characters are given a fleshed out backstory that the audience has been able to experience in the show, allowing them to develop attachments to the characters
3) The show doesn't drop you smack dab into the middle of the whole thing, it's allowing time you time to process the characters and the universe

Deserves every shred of praise it's getting. Goes to show what happens when you hire people who genuinely love the source material and don't pander to advertisers or corporations. They made the show for the love of the lore and characters and it truly shows.
Arcane is so good even people who don't like Riot games can't help but be impressed.
I wanted to hate it because of the negative connotations tied to the MOBA community but man - it was a masterpiece.
It's sooo difficult to impress me with anything. Especially a TV series. Even more-so an animated series. It's hard to get right.
Arcane is absolutely amazing. Already tore thru it twice.
The character work and the psychology is simply golden.
Any non-league player watching the show I'd suggest you watch a few of their cinematics/music videos like "Get jinxed", awaken, warriors...
*Update* 1 day after the finale released it still has the same numbers and is in IMDB's top 15 shows all time, out of their top 250 list!!!
The crazy thing is, this was made 6 out of 9 episodes in, yet the final act completely blows all that came before or of the water.
I love it. Series is amazing.
Arcane is awesome...🔥🔥🔥
Hollywoods insistance on only making live action adaption is and always has been the greatest flaw when it comes to making movies based off games. They almost never do animated versions of game IP's and the very few who do are usually really low budget 2d animation. Then if by chance they do 3d it's usually really low budget 3d animation. Then you finally get the few good to decent movies made from video IP's which are 3d animated with medium to high production values.
There are many reasons why 3d animation is best when adapting a game. First off, unlike a book where each reader can have a completely different interpretation of what a character looks like games instead have a very concrete and iconic visual look to their characters which is perceived the same by all players. In live action movies, even with high budget, you cannot accurately depict how the character actually looks in game. Second often games have a lot of over the top powers, effects, etc. that tend to be incredibly hard to pull off and look realistic and/or believable when presented as live action. In order to do this you need to compete at the level of the like of marvle when it comes to super special effects in order to make it look good and even then it can be iffy. When you're medium is fully 3d you don't have this same suspeion of disbelief. Everything tends to feel far more grounded and special effects rarely if ever stand out as not belonging in the world.
There are a ton more reasons beyond just these but these two are some of the core reasons 3d for games is almost always better and it's sonmthing I've been complaining about for many years. Hopefully this show starts to wake the industry up because honestly It's always seemed pretty obvious to me that this is the way most movie's based of games should be but for some reason everyone seems to be really dense to this idea.
PS: Animated 2d can work really well too if it's high quality animation but it's still a bit jaring for most game ips since a majority of games are made in 3d. Plus when it comes to western animation their ability to pull of quality 3d animation tends to be really good, but when it comes to 2d animation they tend to be really iffy.
You know how we grew up with it, and the creators masterfully wielded nostalgia to its fullest is one of the beautiful aspects of any kind of entertainment medium.
I think the real difference is that the people making the show also helped make the characters for the game. Other adaptations have been just cash grabs studios stuck some random crew on to make, but Arcane has the passion of the creatives behind the game plus plenty of funding and time to see their vision through without stupid executives making it "good for general consumers". It was made first and foremost for the actual League of Legends fans and not general test audiences.
New players come expecting the battle will be like Demacia vs Noxus / 5v5 but actually it's more like Zaun vs Piltover, except you're Zaun side like Vi and your teamate are Silco's gang
Yeah... 1 vs 9 (Enemy hurt your character, your teamate hurt you verbally)
Feels the Toxic air of Zaun...
Very accurate
Never played league and didn’t know much about the lore however I do follow the tournaments. This show is a real masterpiece. Riot really did well by hiring a non Hollywood studio. I still have no words. The animation, story and that masterpiece of a soundtrack. Wow
anyone know if fortiche studios is hiring, i wanna be the feel good manager whose sole responsiblity is to make sure the artists and production staff is well fed, hydrated and taken care of at all times bc they deserve it
Thank you Netflix.
Thank you.
Ive been waiting over 9 years for this and they nailed it.
Best game ever.
Thank Riot and Studio Fortiche, Netflix is simply hosting the series.
Why are you thanking Netflix? They have done nothing except broadcast it which could've been done by anybody else. Thank Fortiche and Riot if you wanna thank someone
@@nicnick2000 My thoughts exactly
If Netflix didn't exist, Riot probably would've streamed the whole thing on UA-cam/Twitch with less restrictions on streamers. I'd only thank Netflix if they wrote a huge check to Riot and Fortiche with no strings attached for Season 2.
If anyone has seen the cinematics LoL had for their character/lore/events trailers, then you knew the show was going to be well received.
The problem with many movie/series adapted game content, is they go the "Live-action" route which tends to fall flat. If those previous titles made animated content then it would likely be rated higher.
People used to say the EXACT same thing about Comic-book adaptation.
Then Sin City happened. Then Iron Man happened. Now people are like "of course comic book superhero movies are great."
The real problem is that everyone is so busy regurgitating + defend popular opinion that they often shutdown people with truly original and amazing ideas before ever giving them a chance.
@@alexfrank5331 Mainstream comic adaptation "Should" have an easier time being adapted as most of the stories are essentially a story board for the adaptation.
My main argument is that adaptation should NOT be so fixated on being live-action that they either change things for the sake of changing it or cast characters based purely on looks or popularity.
Everything about Arcane is amazing and really gives me hope for the future of animation.
I realy hope that for the next or any other seasons that are coming for arcane, that they focus on different champions on their long long list of characters.
great series, i am a LOL players and this show it delivers
It's only natural , when a show stays true to a story's lore and the studio ups it even more with animation the fandom will increase and love it even more while getting new fans (like me) unlike propaganda shows that ruin it for everyone so i gotta thank Riot and Netflix for this show I'm still shook from episode 9 🥶
Not quite. If the show is based on League's ORIGINAL lore, it wouldn't be as good.
League's lore was written then rewritten and expanded on by literally hundreds of talented writers/designers over 12 years.
Not just a typical video game lore.
The awesome thing about Arcane is that even tho we know the characters, we didnt actually know what happened between them. The lore has some stories fleshed out, but not for Jinx/Vi and now we know why, cause it had been in production for what, 6 years now?
Thats why even the die-hard fans of the game were excited to see whats going to happen, cause we only knew Jinx did something terrible, according to serveral voicelines between the characters. Its honestly a masterpiece; the story, voiceacting and music are out of this world and Im excited to where this is going. Obviously with ep9 out and the announcement season 2 will conclude the Piltover story but since they hinted at Noxus with the Medarda family we might explore that fraction in later series, which makes me happy beyond belief. We always wanted a series and now we have it and its doing great and URGH! Just all the emotions.
Also Woodkids guns for hire might just be my favourite song now.
I think what works about Arcane is that League isn’t a story based game but has so much lore, so expanding the story via a tv show is exciting
My heart is still with the WoW even if I feel that dies slowly, but I can't pretend that this series was one of the best what I ever saw. I'm really amazed!
The funny thing is, they did justice on showing how the LGBT type stuff is supposed to be portrayed, with good story and not constantly being bragged about in your face.
What, don't you like being told how bad you should feel for being a man and how women are in fact always superior to men but always underestimated by them?! How come?!
@@Micromation 💀
This was so good. Movies never do video games justice because they have limited screen time. Often time video games have such deep lore. A mini series is the minimum standard for screen adaptations.
It's powerful, beautifully animated, fantastic voice actors and visually amazing. How could it not be a winner.
Just finished the series and it was 100% best cartoon I've ever seen. AMAZING
And now here is uncharted
Fortiche Productions is the name of the "French Animation Studio" if you guys are wondering
I've been watching the show with my two young daughters... I'm blown away not just by the animation style which is gorgeous. But the way the characters move is so natural looking to me.
I think the problem with the U.S audience is that cartoons are seen as "Children's Contents" and then add the fact that it's based on a video game it pushes a lot of people away sadly.
It is a masterpiece from an animated, written, directed standpoint.
You dont need to play leagie to watch it
Trust me
We the league of legends gamers who played this game for a long time arcane is just the beginning and we thankful for the series map of runeterra is big.
My brother got my mom watched the first 2 episodes with my dad last night. My mom hasn't touched a video game in her life, and she enjoyed them.
How is it possible when there is a lesbian woman as main character? It's almost like people arent bigoted and really just dont want politics forced on their face for the whole show.
And no man is complaining about having female protagonists either, it's almost like the criticism arise when they are mary sue's. It's almost like men always appreciated female protagonists (alien, tomb rider, kill bill)
Honestly, I'm shocked that the anti-SJW outrage machine isn't review-bombing this one because there are a lot of female main characters, and the overall cast is very diverse.
Because the diverse is not forced and natural, not like others that only pander to that group
I know that in US the show in some regions is blocked for some reason, because my friends tried to watch it and they cant...
I hadn't heard about this series until WatchMojo listed it as their top streaming show for 2021. Then I watched Arcane and it is staggering in its storytelling, animation, and character development.
Arcane is a very good anime. I love it
anime?????????
Just because it's animated doesn't make it an anime :)
Depends on who you ask. Many Easterners wll call it an anime, while many Westerners won't. (And most Anime historians will definitely say it's not)
Amazing series I want more of. They only scratched the surface.
its been 6 days since the last 3 episodes came out and its still 9.4 on IMDB
castlevenia and Arcane are perfect examples on how to make video game adaptations. tho both had quite different methods to solve this issue
Not to mention as well the IMDB rating was 9.5, but there have been a fair few troll ratings in the past week or 2 for some reason, look at the 1 star ratings for context.
Imagine the whole world is already waiting for season 2, this is crazy and the hype is real! I'm a League of Legends player since 2013 and I couldn't be more proud of the game that makes me happy and made new friend with!
Never played LOL but seriously enjoyed Arcane. It allows you to learn so much about the lore, but keeps it interesting and engaging.
Maybe it struggles to reach number 1 in the US, just like most american tourists in Paris "struggle" to choose a Michelin starred restaurant over stuffing themselves at McDo.
