Omg yessss. I m an architecture student and based on my knowledge on architectural history traditional buildings or vernacular buildings are usually seen as visually aesthetic by most people. Whether they fulfil function adequately or not, the main reason I think these buildings seem beautiful to most people is because they were made by the people themselves creating spaces and building shaped by the society themselves rather the more modern buildings that were created on a grid decided by the designer (architect/engineer/government). We need to get one thing straight. The true owners of a particular space are the users who are using these spaces, not just the actual property owners who only care about the revenue their site could generate for them. Basically its because older buildings were shaped by their society rather than the buildings shaping their society which is mostly what is happening nowadays. Also, beutiful buildings depend on the materials that are used to build them. Sadly, most studio instructor barely care or impose careful material selection and mostly prefer glass concrete steel which barely encourages students to explore their options. This is just my opinion based on my education, experiences and ethics so far. 😊😊

I think about this topic a lot and argued with my colleagues and professors many times about why old Architecture buildings especially classical ones are much more aesthetically pleasing than modern and post modern Architecture and the last poist of ornaments is very crucial factor for beauty and you can notice this in traditional moroccan homes
