Significant difference in performance between the 150 & 204.... 2 wheel and 4 wheel drive. If you are living in a mountainous area it has to be the 204. I’d add hill decent and the hill hold feature also, the 150 is simple underpowered for the Alps . It struggles to get over the passes but it’s fine for normal motorway cruises and flat B roads.,

It’s a great review. I can’t believe VW thinks it’s not worth the risk to sell here in the states. People here are actually selling their homes to by campers. And yes even mini vans. Thing are way more economical if you live in the home and you get your FREEDOM!! As you know we hold a lot of value yo it snd it was taken away from us too long. I believe that is the reason why so many people that can have become nomadic. I would buy one for the swivel seats and the bench bed alone. And fill the rest of the space myself. Lol
You can see why it’s so much more than a converted van, there is so much attention to detail like the blinds, storage, lights and moulded sections. I love my self build but it feels like a banger compared to this lol
Pick up ours in 2 days, same colour, bought and specked by someone else but his finances fell through. 91k total, ridiculous really seeing you can get an awesome fully fitted motor home less than that. But hey ho we fell in love with it, heart ruled head and deal was done, managed 3k off, every bit helps
As a proud owner of a MY 21 6.1 I have yet to spend a night in it ;-), slowly kitting it out and getting ready to go. Great to have review from seasoned Cali owners and your opinion. Bay leaf green buggy is a good compromise. Look forward to more output as we ease out.
Try the passenger footwell for getting car seat out the way when on site. That's where ours goes, nice and snuggly and you don't have to move it until you're heading out next 🙂
Same here, we put the car seats in the front footwells when we're camping, or sling them in a pop-up tent outside
After I sell both of my kidneys, my lung, liver, spleen and eyeballs I will finally be able to buy one!
That'll barely get you the deposit!
The people who have these are just badge snobs, you get a lot more for a lot less with just a different badge.
The width is a problem. Adequate double bed occupies all of the width up to the kitchen unit. Very cramped
what is gas mileage like? does it come as electric run?

@@scottmyles4377 all white with the thought I might wrap the bottom half later. I opted for the 190/204 but slightly regret not going for the 150 as it would be here by now. I’m sure delivery will be sooner than July thou 🤞🏻
Great video. So you've ditched your California - I even got that feeling from a couple of videos back - what have you gone for instead! Everyone's buying campervans for 'staycations'. The world's your lobster, there's everything out there, but we'll look forward to hearing your reasons - we guess the addition to the family is a big factor, and you'll probably want an onboard bathroom... We'll have to wait for your big reveal. Best wishes.
Some nifty little features, but nowhere near enough to spend that money new over what we paid for our T6.1 new and completely fitted out! Also in the green gang 💚 ours is Turkish Green 😊
T6 2021 it’s always the same… i have one T6 middle engine powering (second hand that’s true … ) it made in wood furniture without heater and pop up roof for a X 3,5 less cost for the same use and vw van sensation . I’am just a less middle french class … that is true . Cool vid. with cute Bébé

I am absolutely DISGUSTED with VW that anybody else gets to have these vans but because Im in the US...

You said it wrong, instead of the sliding door being placed where we wouldnt expect it to be, the steering wheel is!

What do you mean by "insulated glass"? If you mean the double glazing, it is not available for the parts where you have sliding windows. So in your case only the rear glass and the two rearmost side windows can be double glazed which means 3 windows. If you order the Ocean without sliding window those two windows come with double glazed windows, too.

You cannot beat how VWs look but compared to our WildAx it lacks space, equipment and is overpriced. Still looks gorgeous though - as does your baby!!
Value for money 4??? I'm paying £67k for mine due in March 21, exact model with 500 miles has just sold for £70k. These have the least depreciation in the campervan world.

id have air suspension, wipe able covers or leather seats for durability and camping spills. Rubber mats a must (mud). Get a Rear tail gate tent awning made up for road side sh!t or shower.

Whole lotta past tense being used when talking about the Cali you “had”...
Love the exterior 😍 but the interiors disappointing. I think there’s much nicer custom built interiors on the market for the same price, if not cheaper.
I have said that, but if you look away from a lot of Transporter conversions the van itself is a very basic van, I’ve seen conversion companies wanting 55k for a bottom of range van and a semi decent build in the rear, I’ve also seen companies want 60k plus for vans without even leather upholstery, unfortunately a lot of companies are taking advantage now off people getting into van life, I spend so much time looking at vans and whenever I see one I like I know it’s either going to be a bit standard van underneath or it’s going to be a semi decent spec van but with a flat pack cheap build in the back. I would actually like to know out of curiosity how much these companies make on van sales, baring in mind all the conversion kits and vans themselves they’ll be buying cheap as well due to buying in bulk.

That lack of left foot space is an issue with Audis also - I think it’s laziness when converting to right hand drive. It’s a deal breaker for me, I hate driving my wife’s car.
Yust ordered one…. So cheap but w/o 4 Wheel Drive. Its very affordable

I love it...however as “Mouse” is 2018 version Ocean and only clocked 17,000 miles I would have a hard time convincing my hubby to change over . 🤷♀️

No toilet other than a potty and nowhere inside to shower.

Discuss running costs, depreciation, repairs to the touch screens and the prices to repair the pop top would make for an informed choice.
But it looks great for lifestylers for a couple of days at a time.
Could buy a new HQ motorhome with all facilities for the same.

I think it all depends on what you want really, I think for the California it's advantage is it's small compact size regarding parking and driving narrow countryside or mountainous roads, maybe for people who just like to stay 1 night and move on to next destination and take in the views

The VW california beach can come with 7 seats. Same as Ocean but without the kitchen.

Hi great video. I must of bought mine t6.1 at the right time, as I paid 20k less last year. Ok it's not the California and mine is a private build, but has the similar features and some better. Actually all the things Lizzie said she would improve. I think you are paying for all the extra tech which I appreciate but do you really need it?

No you can’t leave any bedding up the top as it can break the roof. You can keep bedding up there during the day though when the bed is pushed up into the pop top. Just not while travelling with the roof closed. Hope that makes sense? Thanks for watching!
Even if it was available in the USA, stick shift would be deal break for me, as I am one of nearly a majority of Americans that can't drive a stick shift.

Good clear review. The new price of these is challenging- but fit out and details look well made etc. With action sports in mind - getting bikes surfboards or windsurfing kit inside ? Any solutions?

Great review as always. We have ordered is california and currently waiting for the build. We took a test drive and I thought it pulled away slower. I have only driven manual cars before so my first automatic vehicle drive. Do you have any thoughts. Do you think it pull away slower. It is difference between manual and automatic or maybe scared driving such an expensive vehicle. Thanks.

What makes me mad is that these cool vans are available in Europe, and other really cool models in Japan, but not in America, probably because we are spoiled and only want BIG things, lol. I am glad it is called California to rub it in our noses. In about 5 to 7 years I will be looking for a camper van, but I am stuck with the bigger crap here.

There is a mistake I think, you don't have insulated glasses when you have sliding windows. Check your glasses, you clearly see the difference( and feel it) :'(

Also, about the heating in winter, I'm curious, with the pop-top open, on which level do you set the level? I don't know if it's all the T6.1 the same, but it seems the level doesn't match with the T5/6

Great video once again, would be good to do one talking about what kind of deals VW offer and how much you can actually haggle, i have always wanted a California and think for all rounder they are not too badly priced, but i do find some of the options a little over the top when it comes to prices, especially things like heated seats. and another option i did on configurator was the shower head, but it then wants you to add something else at £700 but doesn't explain what that option is. Would be great if you guys could do a video explaining the different options and what you wold recommend and also potential deals or things that are able to be haggled for in terms of options.
I just added the shower to the base Ocean and it didn't ask me to add anything else. That said, the configurator is an abomination. Half the options are not explained very well, and often if you add something you have to remove something else then add something else then remove something and remove something once again. It's so tedious.
@@mikelovesbacon exactly that’s what I found, I feel it doesn’t really explain what the option are on any pics, I would like to see a video explaining mainly about deals and financing one of these, it just seems to be such a secret within the California community as to what deals you can get or what you are able to haggle for. I am seriously considering one of these in the next couple of years, and it’s a massive commitment for me and my wife as we will have to do the 10 year HP, but haven said that it works out cheaper to do the PCP for 5 years then potentially buy it outright at the end or re finance. Would just be good to get bit of clarity on exactly the kind of deals out there and if they are worth the money or would you be better looking at a Transporter conversion.
@@stellasqueak Having worked in the motor industry, the ‘deals’ can constantly change.It very much depends on stock and production levels.If there are plentiful cars in stock then VW would offer some ‘stock support’ to move these cars on or if a model was being upgraded with additional equipment support would be needed to move pre realigned cars on.These deals might only then be valid for a few weeks while these cars are in stock and unique to certain dealers that have that stock therefore a video would be forever changing.However if supply is tight then there is no need to incentivise the car and therefore ‘deals’ are less likely.Given the massive demand for Californias that’s why there is only the £600 finance deposit along with the £1000 of extras.
@@stellasqueak You can get c£8k discount on an Ocean through Drive the Deal or AutoeBid. If you can put 50% down, VW offer 2.6% finance.
You don't need ANY options on an Ocean, its all standard (including Park Assist - it steers you into parking spaces!). Having said that, I spent the entire Drive the Deal Discount on options! The Sports Pack is great as it includes upgraded laminated glass in the cab. That's not mentioned in the configurator weirdly (see Mikes comment above!), but Z2C is a £760 option by itself. SP also includes the unbeatable Springfield wheels, darker tinted rear windows, black mirrors, B pillars and underbody guard. For me, why not also go for the Driver Assistance pack that keeps you actively in lane? And the upgraded nav with the big screen? And the shower? And the wooden floor?
You get the idea...a fool and his money are easily parted but for me, I'll be keeping my Ocean for a decade minimum, so didn't want regrets!
Why would you buy this over a motorhome like a Burstner? Seems expensive for what you get.
