  • Keeping fairly close to the dock and trailers on the left. Jacking the trailer into the Dock. Hard right Then back to the left. Every time the trailer starts or is not moving to the LEFT, I give it a little RIGHT ( to keep it heading to the left line) There will be pull ups when ever jacking a trailer into the Alley.
NOTE: This back is for New Drivers on the Job. but is still help full for CDL Students. Use GET OUT AND LOOKS - Check Both Mirrors - Don't RUSH!

The rear of my trailer is about 10 to 15 feet past the alley or dock. It can be more- it’s the driver making the right adjustments when backing into the dock.

How do I identify a 90 or 45 degree backing?

The 90 degree back or alley dock is used on tight yards and on CDL states testing. Look’s like an L - ( turn the L around) you will be parallel to the dock.
If you have lots of room, the driver will pull up to the right and get almost straight. ( almost a straight line back)
Most drivers like to pull up on an angle - based on what is in front and in the rear. So the 40 or 45 degree is not important- It’s the best setup or angle to safely back into the dock or alley.
