Just a small tip to everyone that wants to add a little dirt to the clean plexi sound Johan created, add the "distortion" Pre FX on the ODR setting and set it up to the following (drive 0.5 tone 0.5 and lvl 1.0), that's pretty much my main sound for any classic rock and blues rock song, cheers.
can't believe how good this little thing sounds! of course, Sweden's very own Marshall ambassador is at the helm. always look forward to your vids Johan!
I wonder how many have been influenced to get a Marshall due to these videos. Perhaps time the bosses in Milton Keynes sent him a gift. p.s. I grew up in Milton Keynes but did not even now what a Marshall was. Just as well or I would have been bunking off school to go and hang around the Marshall factory.
I think I've watched this video 30 times. I am impressed with the vintage tone you're getting from a digital amp! I've been looking for an inexpensive practice combo to keep in my office and I just bought one of these today. The 10" speaker sounds amazing but I went with the Code 50 just because it has a 12" speaker. I can't wait for it to be delivered...I'l be watching this video yet again to match the settings you have.
It was delivered yesterday. I've only had about an hour to mess with it. But within 2 minutes I had an awesome tone. I really like the Bluesbreaker setting (#41 preset) as it is and the JTM45 (#25 preset) I adjusted the JTM45 EQ and such to these settings: Gain = 4.0 Volume = 3.0 Gate, 1.2 Bass = 4.4 Middle = 5.0 Treble = 2.7 Speaker cab = 1960HW I kept the presence and resonance as they were. Right now the JTM45 is a perfect tone. I'll adjust it more as time goes by. I like my amps set on a clean breakup and use a tubescreamer for any overdrive. I'm blown away a digital amp can sound so good. Once I dial in my tones, I'll probably check out Marshall's website for other people settings. Plus I need to do a setting similar to what Johan did.
Your Jedi power read my mind! I was hoping you would do the CODE amp, I played through one and was very impressed but wondered and hoped you would review this amp.
Best demo of this amp on UA-cam. Of course it sounds like the volume is cranked pretty loud to get that sound and the video confirms. Volume and Master on max. The only way to get real good rock tones 🤘🏼
Very natural sounding, very dynamic!!! If you didn't say it's modelling amp and you said is a vintage plexi no one would argue or had a clue! Big surprise! Cheers!
Johan (filmed from the top of an erupting volcano): “Hello. In this video I will show you how to dial in your tone and get better than plexus sound from this curling iron and empty juice box. Let’s go.” Johan then dials it to 11 and caused the volcano to implode, this saving thousands of villagers.
Next Johan video: Broken Line 6 spyder settings to make it sound exactly like a Dumble! you make everything sound amazing man. really enjoy your videos.
Colin Mcnab it’s my opinion Johan is very good at classic rock an has a very good ear that allows him to adjust many amps eq to achieve his sound he also adapts his playing to the gear to get the sound he wants that’s a lot more than I can say of many many guitarist but again it’s just my opinion.
in my opinion the CODE have a pretty good "plexi sound" simulation. I don't care much about the effects and other stuff, but i love playing using only a basic pre-power-cab only setup (maybe with a little compressor on the input).
Thanks for sharing this stuff Johan. I got all exited about 'Lead 12" amps a few months ago, thanks to you. I couldn't find one anywhere but I found a 'Lead 20' on ebay. It's great to have an 800 ss type amp in the lounge room. Thanks friend from Brisbane, Australia.
Great video as always, Johan! Perhaps you can upload this setting as a preset to the Marshall site and post the link here? This way I can download it to the amp! Takk!
I hope people who watch you can start to realize that it's not what the amp's made of that makes it good. Any amp can sound good. But, at the end of the day, a person listenning to the songs you put out ain't gonna question if youre using a 60's tube amp or if you're plugging into a broken battery-powered radio you found on the streets last week. Use what you have available to you in the best way you can manage. THAT'S how you do it.
Ho, Johan! So, that little one is really NOT SO BAD! Specially with Gibson. Good example for young guitarsts - those models. Have a nice weekend! Zigfrid
Hmm, I dunno if it sounds _exactly_ like a Plexi. After listening to this channel for a while you get used to Johan's tone on a _real_ Plexi and it sounds pretty glorious.
I've pulled some cool tone out of mine by mixing/matching amps/cabs. Using a Squier Tele Custom II with P90s. This takes it to a whole new level! Thanks!😊
Hello johan, Amazing tone you are getting out for code 25. I have a question if you can help. I have code 25 but even when my master volume is at 30 percent at most of the presets my amp gives that too bassy boomy vibrations which makes me feel the plywood back is causing may be. How come u are not getting any boomy bassy vibrations at such full volumes? I have also tried cutting bass to 20 percent but boomy vibrations bassy vibrations are in the amp. Can you help please?
Still waiting for Johan to play a marshall MS-1 tiny practice amp using echo from a small bathroom. I mentioned that once how good mine sounded with room echo and you said you would try it.
Again.. Magic fingers. You can make any amp sound great. Your mics, recording and playing is great. Thanks Johan. Consider trying similar video with Fender Mustang GT 100. I am quite impressed with that amp.
Thanks for doing all the work getting the code to sound good. The factory presets seem like a bunch of kids wanting to make as much noise as possible. Gain almost never below 12 o'clock combined with maxed treble and excessive noisegate. Makes you wonder what they were thinking when such nice tones can be achieved with a little restraint.
awesome as always.I've two questions: 1) how much of making a small and/or solid state amp sound good is good micing - does it sound very different in the room stood six feet away to the sound the mics gets at less than an inch? 2) Can you do a demo like this of the Katana 50 - you made it sound awesome in a previous video - would love to watch how you set that up (as I've got one).
I'm now definitely convinced.. you can make a tin can sound like a plexy. ;-) Hey Johan what would you recommend to achieve a great plexy tone in the 20/30W range (pub gig volume to cranck it)? Any thought on the new Laney LA30BL?
Superb Video, as always! I was wondering, if there is a change in sound, the longer a tube amp runs. So lets say you compare a plexis sound after five minutes of running, to the sound after an hour... What do you think Johan? Greetings from Germany!
Hi there, do you think the code50 can compete with a dsl40 which i have. I need amp for small clubs my dsl40 was loud enough and mainly concerned about volume. Katana 50 couldn't cut it
That’s the sound interface TC Electronics Studio Konnekt 48 (1U) and an API lunch box with mic 2 preamps 512c and 2 compressors 525 and (not used here) two EQ 550B. Cheers
Wow. That sound was incredible. I have a question. I have the 100W head and running it onto a 2x12 Vertical Recto closed back cab. Would you still use the Cab simulator or turn it off and run it through the cab. I know what I like but curious as to what you would do. Thanks for the great clip.
I was in the little Marshall booth at NAMM when they introduced the CODE series. *They* didn't have it sounding anywhere near as good as this. I left the booth thinking it was a complete failure, and most of the subsequent demos only confirmed that. You're some sort of wizard and should be on the consulting payroll of a lot of companies....
If I plug into any decent quality rig I sound like me. My guitar playing friends sound like themselves plugged into my rig. Johan would sound like Johan if he played my rig. I think we spend too much time (and money) chasing tone through gear when we should be spending more time playing and working on technique. We can improve our tone to an extent through better technique. Not much we can do about physiology (bone structure, etc). Some people are just born to have great tone. Johan is a great example of that.
Got mine since they were released. Love the lil' shit. Luckily I never had any of the bluetooth connection issues a lot of ppl have with the app. Great lil' amp! Nice vid Johan. What's next on the magic fingers list? :)
At this point, I'm pretty sure Johan could just scribble "PLEXI" in crayon on a coffee-stained sheet of notebook paper, crumple it up, stuff a corner in the input jack of a Les Paul, and it would sound exactly like a 1959 at full tilt.
I'm SHOCKED! I played one of these for about an hour and hated it so much that I LITERALLY think if I saw one on the side of the road with a free sign on it I wouldn't bother to pull over and pick it up. I don't know how you do it.
What most people don’t realise about the codes is that you got to really crank the presence and the master volume to get a big sound! Don’t worry about it being a modelling with the master volume; it’s a made-to-be-cranked Marshall! ;-)
Have you had a chance to check out the rest of the amp? The jubilee patches sound the best in my opinion. That being said I still prefer my lead 12 over this.
Are there any other amp brands you like? I actually dig some Orange tones and some Crate solid state amps! (Not really that spectacular as a plexi, but they're more affordable! :D)
Johan Segeborn I had the MG..I agree..The distortion had a muffled character..traded it in for a dsl 40 combo..I been thinking about the code 100 for a gigging rig for bars..I am surprised you did not get a code 100 head..seems like a better fit to compare against your vintage amps..but this one still sounds very good
Hello Johan I was asking myself what you think of the code series ? I m looking for a great practice and rehearsel amp , I own a few Marshall tube heads jvm 4 10 and jh100 what do you think is IT any good? Because I noticed a lot of hatred of this amp
Marshall CODE has one issue - you need to learn how to make this amp sounds good. You can't just get it out of the box, plug in your guitar and enjoy it because factory presets make you run to boss katana that sounds good out of the box. That's why you noticed a lot of hatred of this amp
"A man hikes twenty miles into the outdoors only so that he has a killer intro video shot..." ;)
Hahaha! Thanks man, that’s actually outside Volvo on my way to work this morning ;-)
No way! :)
He said VOLVO! ;oP
This is Sweden ;)
Just a small tip to everyone that wants to add a little dirt to the clean plexi sound Johan created, add the "distortion" Pre FX on the ODR setting and set it up to the following (drive 0.5 tone 0.5 and lvl 1.0), that's pretty much my main sound for any classic rock and blues rock song, cheers.
GUY THERE WAS A BEEB OUT MY AMP IM DEAF NOW
It's good of Marshall to keep updating the Firmware and App for this ! 4 years later and it is better than ever.
can't believe how good this little thing sounds! of course, Sweden's very own Marshall ambassador is at the helm. always look forward to your vids Johan!
Thanks Tom, great to hear that! :-)
Definitely the best code demo on the net. So surprising considering how little is in it!
Absolutely 👍
I have figured out from Johan its not the gear, its the one using the gear!
Thanks my friend :-)
That what I said it's him .He can play any amp and sound great.
@@jamesreed8517 EXACTLY its a lot of the player the amp is a base yes but the player has way more control over tone than is ever mentioned
best sound I've ever heard from Marshall Code. Pure Plexi
The guy is a master you can make anything sound great
I think I've watched this video 30 times.
Thanks Ron, Im glad to hear that. Hope you'll like the Code 50! Cheers
Have you got it yet? Marshall has a website for the CODE where you can plug it into your PC and download other people's presets to try or save
It was delivered yesterday. I've only had about an hour to mess with it. But within 2 minutes I had an awesome tone. I really like the Bluesbreaker setting (#41 preset) as it is and the JTM45 (#25 preset) I adjusted the JTM45 EQ and such to these settings:
Gain = 4.0
Volume = 3.0
Gate, 1.2
Bass = 4.4

Treble = 2.7
Speaker cab = 1960HW
I kept the presence and resonance as they were.
Nice one. I have the Marshall code 100 combo. Because it has an effects loop
Remember this guy can make any amp sound great
Your Jedi power read my mind! I was hoping you would do the CODE amp, I played through one and was very impressed but wondered and hoped you would review this amp.
Thanks Don! ;-)
Best demo of this amp on UA-cam. Of course it sounds like the volume is cranked pretty loud to get that sound and the video confirms. Volume and Master on max. The only way to get real good rock tones 🤘🏼
"Hi, today we're going to check out a broken dishwasher, and see if we can get a Plexi tone from it"
I believe Johan could make that happen.
Let’s go.”
Johan then dials it to 11 and caused the volcano to implode, this saving thousands of villagers.
Brilliant amp series. Marshall name on an affordable combo & head... Genius
Absolutely love the riff at :35 seconds, once again thank you johan
Thanks, great to hear that!
Johan should do a blind CODE vs. vintage Plexi shoot out to see if we can tell which is which.
He makes every amp sounds awesome.
Amazing! I honestly have not liked this amp at all since the first time I heard. You’ve changed my mind!
Thanks man, great to hear that!
My project while we’re locked down. Thanks again love that lil code in front of those stacks
Next Johan video: Broken Line 6 spyder settings to make it sound exactly like a Dumble! you make everything sound amazing man. really enjoy your videos.
Jason Cobb if johann can make line 6 sound good, i might be getting them. I love the futuristic features of line 6. Hate the sound of course.
Thanks my friend ;-)
Hi Johan .... you have no idea how much I spent already because of your videos :-) you are the man !
Wow that's awesome wouldn't believe it's digital these amps cop a lot of hate but I think you nailed some really good tones here
Thanks, glad to hear it!
Could you share or publish your Preset on Mymarshall and put a link in your Description above? that sound at 2:04 was so sweet
I can't believe how "big" that little thing sounds. Wow.
Thanks Jeff!
Johan, you are a wizzard! I like that sudden appearing and disappearing of that blue beer can.....
Realy Wizzard! But GOOD wizard!.😉
Johan, please do a comparision between the Marshall Code with Plexi settings versus a real Plexi!!!
nice sound as usual it's in your fingertips
Thanks, thats kind of you! :-)
I think this time it is more to do with his knowing how the controls work in the amp and guitar to get the desired sound
I could play that amp with Johans settings and the same guitar and not sound nearly as good that's why i say it's in Johans fingers
@@renierblanco I find that a strange view given he is not playing anything special that any guitarist couldn't do.
Yeah, the effects needs to be used very sparsely, but sounds great then.
Unbelievable, you did it again. Now Marshall will have to pay you for every amp sold that contains genuine Johan tone in it ;-)
Thanks my friend :-)
Great video as always, Johan! Perhaps you can upload this setting as a preset to the Marshall site and post the link here? This way I can download it to the amp! Takk!
OH MY GOD YOU DID IT
;-) Cheers
Johan Segeborn Have you tried the JCM yet? It's great
I hope people who watch you can start to realize that it's not what the amp's made of that makes it good. Any amp can sound good.

I agree, the amp that makes you play with inspiration is always good enough
Johan Segeborn ☝
Exactly!
Ho, Johan! So, that little one is really NOT SO BAD! Specially with Gibson. Good example for young guitarsts - those models.
Have a nice weekend!
Zigfrid
Have a great weekend Zigfrid! Cheers Johan
Great video! Can't wait for you to cover the new Marshall Origin amp!
Thanks! :-)
Can we all agree that Johan sounds like a Plexi and everything he plays is just an extension of his personal tone?
Thanks my friend :-)
Hmm, I dunno if it sounds _exactly_ like a Plexi.
After listening to this channel for a while you get used to Johan's tone on a _real_ Plexi and it sounds pretty glorious.

Thanks Johan!! I request for the Marshall Code some time ago! Nice job and Sound. Very good amp
I've pulled some cool tone out of mine by mixing/matching amps/cabs. Using a Squier Tele Custom II with P90s. This takes it to a whole new level! Thanks!😊
I could not make that amp do anything,, to bright, sounded like a toy,, it's amazing what you do with it.
Rock on brother! You brought that code to life.
Thanks bro, glad you like it!
1:07, are you floating while playing those licks?
Yumpin' Yimini! You nailed it. Thanks brother. I'm copying your settings now!!
I'm going to try this out for sure. Thanks Johan!
Glad to hear it, thanks!
This amp rock loud and its as simple as that. Loud loud loud not bad at all.
Interesting settings, gotta try some of it on my amps.
You Sir are incredible as usual!!!!!!!
2:43 I thought you were injured with that pose :)
great sounds, as always...I'd be hard-pressed to tell which is which in a blind test.
Hahaha! Thanks Yeah I have no idea why I sat like that! ;-)
This is the little mini me of the amp series!I would recommend the 100 though for better sound quality!
Thanks for the tip Gary
Shame you didn't demo the 100 code combo. I have one it's awesome, plus it has the benefit of an effects loop
I'm thinking is that little 25W amp sounds this good, the CODE 100W head must be friggin' amazing.
Hello johan, Amazing tone you are getting out for code 25. I have a question if you can help. How come u are not getting any boomy bassy vibrations at such full volumes? I have also tried cutting bass to 20 percent but boomy vibrations bassy vibrations are in the amp. Can you help please?
Thanks! I go through the settings at the end of the clip. I use almost no bass at all at some of the tones.
Try turn off the cab simulation
Whoa! Nice sound, man! Would you mind posting some tips for JCM800 sound? Greetings from Peru!
Once again astonishing
Awesome video you make the amp sound fantastic.
Would love to see what you can do with a Pignose amp.
I heard one of these in person and it sounded dreadful - absolutely incredible that you made it sound this good
Thanks, glad to hear it!
Great video!
What is the name of the riff? At 5:00 minutes
I'd be curious to hear the room audio.....you are a master if mic'ing. Also run it through your 55hz cab if you could.
NYC LP Player I always thought Johan's sound has a lot to do with the 414 and mic pre he uses
Considering even other pro demos make it sound like emulated garbage there has to be something going on
ua-cam.com/video/s3oGGEGOEQE/v-deo.html
Thanks! I’m actually using the same mic positions and concept in basically all videos. It does sound like this in the room actually. Cheers
Hi, I compared the preamps to simpler preamps here
ua-cam.com/video/DbmP6-kc-_0/v-deo.html
Cheers Johan
Excelente sonido y demostración, para los casos del jcm800 y el silver jubilee Cómo hago los ajustes?
Nice sounding small amp sounds big, good bottom end to it, sounds tight
Christ, you make us mortals seem like mortals!!!
Hahahaha! That’s too kind my friend ;-)
Thanks my friend, I will!
+1
Excelente Trabajo..! la solución para tocar a bajo volumen con un sonido de maravilla..!
Hello Johan! When will you do a video of the new Marshall Origin 50. I would like to know what you think of it. Cheers
Yeah, that's why I already replaced about 50 factory presets with my own. I could not find any suitable for me.
Hi Johan. Will you test the new Origin series in near future ?
Love your demos. Amps sound best loud!
Any chance you can review a Marshall SL5? The slash class a 5 watt?
Você é pessoa certa para fazer essa comparação. Você já tocou em plexi's originais
you are the right person to make that comparison. you've played in original plexi's!
Thanks man, yeah we’ve got quite a reference here on the channel. Cheers
awesome as always.I've two questions:
1) how much of making a small and/or solid state amp sound good is good micing - does it sound very different in the room stood six feet away to the sound the mics gets at less than an inch?
2) Can you do a demo like this of the Katana 50 - you made it sound awesome in a previous video - would love to watch how you set that up (as I've got one).
I'm now definitely convinced.. you can make a tin can sound like a plexy. ;-)
Hey Johan what would you recommend to achieve a great plexy tone in the 20/30W range (pub gig volume to cranck it)? Any thought on the new Laney LA30BL?
Thanks! ;-) I think the 2245 is around 30W. Havent played that Laney yet though. Cheers
Thanks Johan! And keep inspiring us. Cheers.
Katana 50 couldn't cut it
Johan, can you tells us exactly what is on the floor, on your left? The 1U rack unit and a mixer amp-looking thing on top of a flight case.
That’s the sound interface TC Electronics Studio Konnekt 48 (1U) and an API lunch box with mic 2 preamps 512c and 2 compressors 525 and (not used here) two EQ 550B. Cheers
Gotcha. Thanks Johan! So the Studio Konnekt is used in recording both amps, right? It's not part of the sound?
Nice, but how do I make my hands sound like Johan's?
;-) Cheers my friend
Wow. That sound was incredible. I have a question. I have the 100W head and running it onto a 2x12 Vertical Recto closed back cab. Would you still use the Cab simulator or turn it off and run it through the cab. I know what I like but curious as to what you would do. Thanks for the great clip.
Please can you do a test of an old Laney TF series amp. This is very underrated amp, and cheap as chips as well.
I’ll keep it in mind!
Looking forward!
Thanks :-) I think it’s a question of finding the best settings and using only those with different dynamics.
How can I crank up volumes and wake all the neighbours. It there a way to crank up volume but still play in bed room volume?
If I plug into any decent quality rig I sound like me. My guitar playing friends sound like themselves plugged into my rig. Johan would sound like Johan if he played my rig. I think we spend too much time (and money) chasing tone through gear when we should be spending more time playing and working on technique. Is there anyway to run that through a cab with greenbacks?
I'm SHOCKED! I played one of these for about an hour and hated it so much that I LITERALLY think if I saw one on the side of the road with a free sign on it I wouldn't bother to pull over and pick it up. I don't know how you do it.
Thanks! :-)
What most people don’t realise about the codes is that you got to really crank the presence and the master volume to get a big sound! Don’t worry about it being a modelling with the master volume; it’s a made-to-be-cranked Marshall! ;-)
What headphones do you have? Great video!
Have you had a chance to check out the rest of the amp? The jubilee patches sound the best in my opinion. That being said I still prefer my lead 12 over this.
Only briefly, but I haven’t gotten a great metal panel/800 tone out of it yet, so that’s the next step. Cheers
can you make marshall code sound like mesa boogie dual rectifier?
Nice video Johan! You did a great work on that. I have the code 50 and it's a great amp. What are your thoughts about this amp now?
Which one is better between this and Marshall lead 12?
Hey Johan! Excellent as always. Have you you played many Laney amps? Just wanted your opinion. Cheers!
Thanks! I love the Supergroup and the Klipp, I hope to do some more Laney videos here soon
Are there any other amp brands you like? I actually dig some Orange tones and some Crate solid state amps! (Not really that spectacular as a plexi, but they're more affordable! :D)
Oh btw, love your groovy riffs as usual! Waiting for the next Segeborn album! ;)
Hi, I play a lot of Orange too. I actually like all the classic Guitar amp makers
Thanks, really good to hear that!
sounds pretty good!
Thanks!
Make an MG100FXH sound like a plexy? I dare you! You have to use the MG 4x12 cab though.
I think the Code comes closer :-)
Johan Segeborn I had the MG..I agree..The distortion had a muffled character..traded it in for a dsl 40 combo..I been thinking about the code 100 for a gigging rig for bars..I am surprised you did not get a code 100 head..seems like a better fit to compare against your vintage amps..but this one still sounds very good
So Johan, if you had to play a gig at a club that holds like 250-400 people, would you take a Code combo to play the gig? Cheers!
Just joined. Do you like this amp
My mg 15 cranked on the clean gets a plexi like tone
Hello Johan I was asking myself what you think of the code series ? I m looking for a great practice and rehearsel amp , I own a few Marshall tube heads jvm 4 10 and jh100 what do you think is IT any good? Because I noticed a lot of hatred of this amp

is the code 25 louder than all those 4x12 walls you have?
Is this amp really as touch sensitive as it seems?
Yes, go try one out in a music store
I actually bought one and I'm not at all happy with it. Yamaha THR10 amps are far better.
Amazing! What settings did you use for gate, presence and resonance?
Thanks, it was default values for everything but Preamp, Power amp and cab and amp knobs
