Such an iconic vehicle lived a good life even during Nissans struggles, you will be missed maxima, I remember my father had a 95 maxima gle,it had problems but it didn’t quit
I had a 1995 SE with a manual transmission that I bought from a coworker. He was the original owner. Drove that baby for 7 years without any major problems at all!!!! Had 150,000 miles when I bought it. By the time I sold it, nearly 230,000 miles were on it. The only thing I had to do was change the valve cover gaskets.
@@johnlukach4091 well yeah that we know Out of curiosity in know them less powerful Nissans had CVT issues but have you heard of such with bigger engines like this v6?
That wasn't always the case. In 2008, I bought the Altima SE 3.5 over the Maxima (although I've had 2 Maximas in the past) for many reasons. It had 15 more horsepower and was faster, was almost 300lbs lighter, had better fuel economy, it was only slightly smaller but the cabin was almost the same size, had almost every option including navigation and was FAR cheaper. It was a no brainer! I drove that car 210k miles until it was rear ended and totaled. Pound for pound the most fun Nissan to drive to date that I've own. And I've own an 88 Maxima, 01 Maxima and currently own a 2020 Q50
It’s easier to end maxima when it looked its best. I never imagined they could improve upon the current design. So many cars have nowhere left to go from a design perspective.
I never owned a Nissan and never really cared much for them but 1 thing about The Maxima was it was always a beautifully designed vehicle and a very good performance car as well. Always had a sleek look . Just goes to tell you how the auto market is changing right before our very eyes.
I've always liked the Maxima until the year of the long narrow sunroof. I owned a 1999 SE and traded it in with 90K miles and trade-in valve was still very good.
The 2004 to 2007 Maxima's were poorly designed cars and were lemons🥭 Their engines and transmissions were known to both go out around 68 to 72,000 miles.. They were on the list of used cars to avoid as well... Pure garbage.🤮🤮🤮
@@billyclub9733 Anything with a CVT is automatically off my list of considerations. It immediately rules it out as an engaging, fun to drive vehicle. I can list a dozen cars that are as well or better equipped that do not use a 15 year old engine\transmission combination that are cheaper.
@@boost331 In the same class? Go ahead... I'm listening. There is NO competition to the Maxima. The only one that somewhat rivals is the Avalon. If you state Euro, that's a COMPLETELY different category. Again, have you ever even owned a Maxima? Or a Nissan, for that matter? FYI Nissan isn't the only one using CVTs. No believe all the "heresay". And you're wrong when you say it's the same engine and transmission. It's not. It's TOTALLY different! That's like saying Ford is using the same engine as a Model A. Yes, similar technology, no to same parts. Guess you would actually need to own, or even drive, a Nissan to appreciate one
@@billyclub9733 Its the same. The 3.5 VQ engine has been around FOREVER. They make tiny tweeks here and there to address parts that commonly fail and add 5hp every few years to keep people happy. I did not realize that being made in oher countries puts the car in a "whole new class" in your head. To me if it is a car and not an SUV and costs 40-45k its in the same class. For that money you can get a 2,3,4 series BMW. Lexus IS. A Mercedes A class or CLA. Audi A3-A4. How about a Genesis G70. A Kia Stinger. A Jetta GLI or GTI is nicer for less. Anything from Mazda will be cheaper and of higher quality. The Honda Accord. Then there is the Kia K5 GT. The Hyundai Sonata N-line. Oh and there is the Acura TLX, Alpha Romeo Guilia. Toyota Camry and Avalon. Cadillac CT4. Volvo S60. There you have it. Thats what I have off the top of my head. I dont know what your magical criteria is that sets the Maxima above everything. Personally I would rather have any vehicle on this this before the Maxima because not a single car on the list has a CVT and can be optioned very well. To answer your question NO I have not driven one. I have driven a sentra that was an airport rental. It was a pretty miserable experience. I have also had the "pleasure" of using CVTs from other brands like Jeep, Mitsubishi and Honda. I just dont like them. Some brands may be better than others, but it truly is the least joyful transmission type on earth. Sorry if I pooped on your car, but for me and enthusiasts like me, it isnt even a consideration. Most other people looking for a "nice" car would go with any other car above as well. Not too many people associate Nissan with quality and a good bang for your buck. But hey, it had a good long run, so somebody must have been buying them.
My heart aches hearing this news. I currently own a 2010 Maxima SV for ten years. When I brought it back in 2012, it had only 39,000 miles. Fast forward today, I have 174,000 miles on my Maxima. This has been the most reliable and dependable car I’ve ever owned. Hearing this news, I think I’ll continue to drive my maxima until the wheels fall off. I like the 8th gen maxima’s but my maxima (7th gen)have nice lines and it aged well. I hope Nissan rethinks their decision and give the Maxima another generation. I’m anxious to see the “electrified version maxima” or its replacement in the future. Nissan, thank you 42 years of Maxima and designing a reliable car.
I have a 2013 SV with 142k miles and it still looks fabulous and runs without a hitch! I keep hearing about the bad transmission, but this has continued to run flawlessly.
Either way CVT ruined the company and they were morons for staying with it for so long as all they did was leave sour tatstes in customer mouths. I ssure you the majority that went through CVT issues will never touch that brand again. Nissan was once on par with Toyota and Honda, maybe slightly below them in quality, but they were damn good. Now they are a joke!
This is truly, truly sad. I owned a super nice 1995 Maxima with the 160 Hp, SOHC V-6 with every conceivable option. I had a Bose system that sounded great, even for the time period. It was a beautiful deep black with gorgeous tan leather. The car was so smooth and sophisticated. People noticed this car. If the Maxima is gone, may may it rest in peace. It was a great car with heritage.
95 came with DOHC and had 195 hp, 205 tq. You may be referring to the 3rd gen (94 and older) which had 160 hp. Great solid car too, though i loved the 4th gen more for its power/weight.
Saw this coming a mile away. Sales have been dwindling for years now. I've driven in a Platinum and aside from the dated infotainment system, it's a nice car. RIP, Max.
@@trentmclellan1037 The Maxima has been declining in sales for a long time. Toyota discontinued the Avalon because of the same reason. The Altima is Nissan's second best selling vehicle behind the Rogue. It makes no sense to discontinue the it now.
@@trentmclellan1037 Altima was on the right path until the last overhaul in 2019. They completely dumbed it down and butchered it. It's now smaller, SIGNIFICANTLY slower and cheaper (in a quality sense!) than generations before. It's a shame. I owned an 08 Altima SE 3.5 and it was such a fun car
I remember the commercial when i was a Kid of the Maxima 2000-2003 model. It was Driving in the Dessert. My Teacher had that model and we would look out the window at it all the time. She told us it was really fast like the commercial. lol I hate Hearing this as ive always heard Maxima's was the sportiest of these Larger cars back in the day. Regardless of what it ended up as it really Deserves respect at the end of the day. Ol Boy made it 42 years.
We had the 85-88 model. It was tech heavy for its time. Even talked to let you know door was open, key in ignition, etc. Great car and had it in our family forever.
I just felt that aside from extra power the Maxima wasn't much different than the Altima. It was barely larger. I've owned an Altima and test drove the Maxima and never really saw the justification for thousands more for a slightly better car.
It had a better V6 engine, but Nissan shouldn't have forced a CVT in this sedan. It should've used the same 7 speed that the Infiniti's used, or at least come with a manual. Nobody wants to buy Nissan's with CVT's anymore.
@@kimblem.w9952 I am ok with a cvt considering it's a family car for me. But I didn't like how the Maxima was actually a smaller car (2014) than the Altima (2014) and had only 20 more hps for a car that was about 300 lbs. Heavier. I don't remember the exact price but the Maxima I was looking at was about six grand more than my Altima 3.5S. I just simply did not see a point. Now if the Maxima was much larger and more powerful I would've been ok. Like you said the Maxima eight years ago didn't even offer an automatic but just a cvt. So Nissan really dug themselves in. Like, how can your midsize sedan be bigger than your large size sedan? It made no sense. I will say this though, the Maxima is a better looking car.
@@tonywong8134 It was marketed as the sporty 4 door sedan, but had no manual/DCT transmission or torque vectoring AWD like the competition. Hell the "sportiest" SR trim didn't even come with a sun roof so it was a pretty confusing sell for new customers knowing how bad of a Rep Nissan CVT's had.
All you all smoking something. Whenever I has to get my Max service and they gave me an Altima, I begged for my car back. The Max is more than speed it’s handling is far better than the Altima or any car in its class. People only reference the CVT. But have nothing else bad to say about this car. I had 2, 2016 and way only waiting for the next model. I will hold on to my 2016 and never selling it. I am hoping for an EV of this max with 500 hp
Really a shame what Nissan did to this car, ruined it with a cvt. There was not a single car in this class/price range that used a cvt…other than the maxima. I guess they didn’t get the memo that people shopping for this type of car weren’t going to shell out 50k for a vehicle with a rubber band for a transmission
50k?! Must be in a different country. In the states, the maxima platinum got as high as 43k (platinum reserve trim) most we around 40k for a regular Platinum.
@@2009skyline lmao and the depreciation was brutal on this car. I bought a $38k 2017 maxima SL with 14k miles in March 2019 for only $21k. Fantastic car, I sold it for $20k with 63k miles feb 2020 and can’t complain
@@mauriciogarcia4190 yes! The depreciation was crazy. A used maxima in a buyers market is definitely the time to buy one. Currently, this market has them too expensive, used. Great car.
People just don't want large cars anymore if you want space get a pathfinder with the identical engine and third row. Not to mention Toyota is killing the Avalon as well winch doesn't have a CVT
RIP Maxima...my uncle had an '87 Maxima SE, 5-speed, burgundy, tinted windows, front lip, skirts, etc...I was like 7 years old, and it was the first time I heard a car talk, "Key is in the ignition, BEEP, key is in the ignition, BEEP."
The Maxima was always a great car. The only REAL hiccup they had was the 6th generation (04-08). They couldn't get anything right with that car. I've owned several over the years, my first being a 1988
im surprised it took this long, i remembrer when they supersized the altima maybe 20 yrs ago and wondering what the point of the maxima was.. maybe it made sense in markets where infiniti isnt a thing
That's the exact reason I went with the (optioned out) 2008 Altima SE 3.5 vs 2008 Maxima. Although I've owned 2 Maximas in the past, the Altima SE was faster, more powerful, lighter, SLIGHTLY smaller and CHEAPER than the Maxima. How could I not jump on it? And I now own a 2020 Q50 because it was the better option after weighing it against the Maxima, not that the Maxima is a bad car
We all saw this coming. Nissan didn't focus on the Maxima anymore and still had that cvt. They focused more on their altima and even sentra sedans. But yes maxima was a nice car but they should've added more hp and a turbo to compete with the current market.
Not surprised. In fact, i'm surprised they didn't kill it off a couple of years ago. You rarely see them on the roads, they invested more into the Altima, and didn't want to give the Maxima a real transmission. Nissan is to blame for the blunder with the Maxima. Sad day, but at least we still have the 370z..for now.
Not surprised. We had a 2002 Maxima and it was a great car. Super smooth, great value, especially used ones back then. Loved the 3.5L V6 engine. Great cruiser. However, hardly ever saw them on the road. Once they dropped the V6 in the Altima there wasn't much of a market for it.
@@kevinsamson1693 The same reason less Toyota Avalon's are on the road. Most people would rather spend $40k and up on an entry level luxury car. For example the Lexus ES, Acura TLX, or Mercedes C class, and Audi A3.
My dad still has a '94 Nissan Cefiro A32 (Maxima for JDM). It is our only car, and it still runs and revs with no problems! Such a good car, especially with Sport Touring package
This is very sad indeed!! Such legendary FF V6 sedan bitng the dust just becuz of tech and relentless pursuit of electrification...... Maybe Nissan could consider doing one more (increnental) update by supplanting the CVT with the normal 9AT? That would be much appreciated......
No, that's only small part of the reason, the real reason is sales of SUVs vs Sedans. So thank everyone buying these ugly ass SUVs.....Toyota will be next to kill off the camry.
The Nissan Bluebird will definitely appear in a different form in the future, but it's sad to see it go away for now, even though there have been no sports versions that have come out of it. For those that don't know, the Bluebird was Nissan's flagship sedan since the 60s I believe. It was the original Maxima and during the later years of its original run in the 80s, it spawned trims of itself called the 810 Maxima, which were the first Maximas. Since then, the Maxima nameplate replaced the Bluebird nameplate and filled in the role the original 510 did. From the 80s to now, the Maxima was built for North America, along with the rebadge versions called the Infiniti I30/I35. It has shared some parts with the Altima, Teana, and even the older Cefiro. It is such a staple in Nissan's lineup as Kirk suggested. It was to Base Nissan/ Datsun what the Skyline was to Prince. The staple Midsize sedan in the lineup that defined their brands. It was a household name. Edit: I forgot about the mighty SSS variants that were the top of the line trims and rhe ones used for rally.
The Bluebird was sold in US with that name in the mid '60s. At the Datsun dealer I've used to work we received as a trade-in a red '67 Bluebird SSS with a 1.6L I4 and a Borg Warner 2-speed automatic (same engine an transmission later used in the '69 OG 510) we kept as a promo in the showroom for "Datsun Quality". The Bluebird kept the name in Japan even as it changed in 'The States in '69. By the late '70s Datsun began to sell in US its' first Maxima as the topline 810 Maxima in both sedan and wagon. By the early '80s the lines separated ultimately keeping the Bluebird as the Altima, while the Maxima became a separate more upscale (in some generations bigger) sedan. That's how both Altima and Maxima became separate models, just like in Toyota the Corona Mark Ii (later the JDM Mark X) came from a guised Corona while the Supra (first 4 gens anyway) became from a guised up Celica.
@@syxepop Yup, thanks for expanding on the history. Although with Toyota, the A70 and A80 Supras were noticeably different from the T160s to the T200 Celicas.
@@xoulmannn - even though the first Supra sold was as in other markets outside JDM the Celica Supra it was ALMOST DIFFERENT ENOUGH due to the changes Toyota had to make to the Celica to accept the 2.6L I6 to be used on the CS. Then, once Toyota removed overseas from JDM the Celica first name it became its own self (up to the Mk. 4 anyways).
@@bradvangeest That's what I stated. The Maxima, which was a continuation of the Bluebird, was derived from the JDM Cefiro. The Altima however was created in the 90s and replaced the Stanza which was another car that could trace its roots to the 510. It was built in and for North America.
So sad. I was hoping the Maxima would end up getting the Q50/60 power train options doing away with the CVT and offering the twin turbo……. Looks like my next car will be the Infinity
There’s been 8 generations of Nissan Maxima. I’ve owned: 2nd Gen (my first car) 3.5 Gen (aka the million shot Maxima had NOS on it) 4.5 Gen 5.5 Gen 6.5 Gen And lastly the 8th Gen which I kept the longest and only replaced it last year with the TLX Type S a more up to date “4DSC” (4 Door Sports Car) “New electrified sedan coming” to Nissan and Infiniti in 2025!? I assume MAXIMA makes and electrifying return then! I may own two Acuras, but I’m still a ‘Nissan guy’ ♥️
Second owner of a 2000 Maxima. 117k miles as of today. During the test drive I instantly remembered how much I missed the feeling hydraulic steering and cable throttle. Not to mention that Vq30 is one of the best engines Nissan ever made (was actually on the Ward's Best Engines list 3 years in a row.) My first Nissan, and I must say it's been an outstanding first impression.
good motor- almost as reliable as the original VG30 six-cyl- which both won j d power awards AND ward's best list throughout its production period. also the strongest bottom-end of ALL the nissan V6's- by far. let's see somebody get 600hp out of their VQ without filling the oil pan with chiclets.
Agree. They didn't have a hybrid tech at all. The Altima hybrid has been a Toyota system all this time. But what frustrating is the fact that while they were the first to have a full ev in the Leaf, they didn't produce any other ev model until the upcoming Ariya, which is behind most major competitors (VW, Ford, Chevy, Hyundai/Kia)
I've been thinking for a while that the 2025 Nissan EV would be the Maxima and that the 2025 Infiniti EV would be the Q50 replacement. They may become related, and if that's so, then the Maxima/Q50 would be like the Stinger/G70 being related. It's never been that way before. Perhaps the Maxima would focus more on sportier dynamics while the Q50 would focus more on luxury/comfort-oriented dynamics. Maybe electrification will give the Maxima a chance to be sportier than the recent ones.

How sad. My parents and several of my relatives have owned Maximas. I think that generations 2-3 were the best. The current one is heavily overstyled in my opinion. The Maxima truly died for me when the manual transmission was discontinued. 😢
Definitely disappointing I've had a few different ones for rental cars and was always impressed with the driving dynamics and the technology. I do look forward to seeing what they do with the name plate
People can say what they want but me and my wife have owned a 16 SR and its been amazing! Yes it has cvt and its had no issues. Sad to see the Maxima go, I thought the 90's Maximas and the '09-'14 generation were stunning. I don't think they can reuse any nameplates if they're getting electrified just yet because some people will prefer/expect a gas Maxima instead of an electric one. And calling it something like "Maxima-E" is just awkward.
I owned a 2016 maxima platinum. For almost 4 years from 40k miles to 88k. I was in love with that car, it was my second car and the fastest I have ever owned. It started giving me problems so I took it to 3 nissan dealers and 2 mechanics and nobody could figure out what was wrong with it, so I sold it. I was going to buy the 2019 with 20k miles platinum again but the dealer that was selling it had horrible customer service so I went with a 2019 GMC Terrain Denali awd and that dealer had the best customer service I have ever experienced!
I'm sorry you experienced that. Sounds like a nightmare. I'm an avid Nissan owner over years and luckily I've never had any REAL problems. May I ask exactly what problems were you having? I'm just curious....
I've had 3 Maxima's. Loved them. I'm going to miss the gas version. I was hoping they would put the 9-speed and maybe AWD as an option. They were never going to make it a true 4 door sports car and make it RWD because of the Infiniti Q50. I'm looking forward to the future variant. I would expect it to have similar battery and powertrain options as the Ariya. Hopefully, it won't be delayed like the Ariya.
@@monacemarkens6407 I wouldn't say so. Although they're similar in some ways, they appeal to different classes. I've owned 2 Maximas in the past and currently own a Q50

I had an 88 Nissan maxima as my first car. Power and leather everything, never gave me an issue besides a little fuse relay. And back 20 years ago when I was driving it I didnt take very good care of that thing and it never let me down
I would expect Nissan's concept EV to be close to the final car based on how the Ariya is so close to its concept. I think Nissan's problem with concept cars in the past is that they show a concept and simply never build anything based on it.
Sad day. I used to own a 1993 Nissan Maxima GXE back in the day. Back on July 18th of this year...... I bought a brand new 2022 Nissan Maxima SV. I love my new Maxima just like I loved the one I had from the 90's.
They kind of killed the Maxima themselves when they introduced that CVT in the 6th generation and then made the Altima is large as the Maxima that made it obsolete kind of...
Though no surprise, but it's sad to see the end of an era. While the Maxima is in a cocoon awaiting for a new era, I hope it can still do well for the SUV hungry world. As an owner of a 7th gen Maxima, I was impressed by it. It's quite reliable and did give me some fun on the road! I'm sure will miss it when it comes to a time for me to get a new car, which this crazy inflation and crazy high car prices are no end in sight!!! ☹️☹️☹️
Man Maximas have been my favorite “affordable” car since i turned 16 and got my 2002 maxima. After that i bought a 2009 maxima and ran it until it was totaled in 2020 in an accident. It was an absolute TANK. Got Tboned by a vehicle with a ram bar going 40-45mph on my drivers side and all that happened to me was a hurt shoulder from the seat belt pulling on me. Was genuinely the toughest car I’ve ever seen. I’m in a civic hatch now because i couldn’t afford a new max when the accident happened and i needed a car. Was hoping once it was paid off i could trade it in for a new max but that dream is dead now. RIP Maxima.
Love the Maxima, always did sorry they are discontinuing this beautiful car. Remember when 8th generation came out in summer 2015 wanted one but the dealer didn't try give me a deal though was very expensive ended up buying a Rogue which still own now, not disappointed the Maxima discontinuing guess because want a Pathfinder now really love that SUV guess driving a Rogue now used to owning a SUV for years so probably no more sedans for me. I really wish Nissan could have a flagship sedan in the family be nice see 10th generation Maxima now EV vehicle might look nice but going disappointed a lot of fans because could had been regular Maxima.
I don't know what all of these people are talking about. The CVT has no more or less problems than any other transmission that Nissan puts out. I have a 2020 Q50. I went with it over the Maxima. It was a VERY close comparison, but the Q50 won lol
My parents and I had a ‘90 Maxima, base trim, and it was a great car. I didn’t like the big bloated version of the maxima that came out around 1997 and was tied to the big bloated Infiniti I30. That was along the same time Infiniti absolutely destroyed the Q45.
I actually liked the I30, especially the I30t which was available with a viscous LSD (but not on any Maxima SEs). On the contrary I disliked the base Maxima you've mentioned due partly to bring paired with the cheapskate VG30E (SOHC 12v) V6 only......
I had a Maxima SL 19 and now I have a SR 21. I love this car. I mean you kinda expected more cars to go electric but damn didn't think I'd see the Maxima go away 😩😩
If Nissan is going electric, at very bare minimum, they should bring back the xTerra with almost identical body exterior styling but with a more up-to-date interior among other things. They will make a killing if they do just that. No more Moronos, Jukes, or Kicks lookalikes (that definitely won’t ever age well stylewise), but rather something that people will remember.
I agree. I owned an 88 and 01 Maxima GLE (sorry it wasn't an SE, but I had ZERO complaints!). The 2004-08 was a total massacre, but they did bounce back in 09 to current date
Lol, I work at Nissan of Lancaster PA And yes you guys the news is true. I personally just traded in my 2020 max with 60k miles 2 weeks ago for a 2018 750i. Still the maxima for its price point is more than a bargain. We as salesman have no clue why but we ultimately came up with the conclusion that its no where else for the car to grow. Due to the Infiniti it was a choice between the 2. cannibalize the q50 or get rid of the maxima. I mean at most Nissan's including mines we are told to not advertise the vehicle and I myself don't know why. Most of the time its only used or pre certified stock last stock we had of these new was like 8 months ago and the last one went a month ago we had over 25 Altima's and sentras but only 4 2022 maxima's 8 months ago lol and the stock was late. They purposely tell us to leave them in the back and put Sentra, rogue, and the Altima's in the front. They also tell us to leave murano's in the back and same exact story for them. I am guessing the Murano is next. Idk if its a plan from the top down but we are all pretty sure the Murano is going to be dc. Hope they do not find out who I am lol. What people fail to realize is the cvt was specifically put/embedded to the engine of a maxima for a reason. To not kill of the infiniti line this is the reason why the infinit was able to be lackluster in its cabin. I myself wasn't expecting them to upgrade the interior nor the bay of the maxima because that would def kill the infiniti q50 line. Also we suspect the maxima was at its end cycle because it had a facelift in 2019 which indicate that body will be discontinued soon. So we suspected nissan just got lazy on redesigned the maxima and focused more on the altimas, rogues, and sentras. The maxima was not a cousin of the infiniti, if they would of made the thing with a 7 speed from out q50 line it would of been a direct competitor. The maxima just don't have its place not in todays market but in its own lineup. It had to go. The maxima is its runner up and best man I doubt it would be gone for to long but idk about the murano. Also no we have not heard about a ev version but online it was reportedly confirmed, maybe we haven't received a a statement for that yet from out HR.
I am sad , on my 3rd Maxima (01GLE,14 SV 17SR) I love my 17 SR, I will always have a soft spot for the Maxima, my 01 is what did it for me, it made too just over 300k before it died , and it didnt die of mechanical failure . It sad that sedans are dying .
I agree! I had an 01 GLE myself with EVERY single option (including the gold trim). Such a sweet car! Unfortunately it was T boned at 160k. I also had an 88 years before that. I went with the 08 Altima SE 3.5 over the 08 Maxima, though. It was faster, had more horsepower, lighter and CHEAPER! I now own a 2020 Q50. Nissan sedans are like no other in its class!
there are 3 segments: declining, stagnant, and growth before, most of the ideas around growth meant, new models, updated models, redesigns and such now that governments are mandating "a set of technologies" it only makes sense for companies to consider that change growth or growing segments always offers opportunities to do more one can capture gains in a declining market, but the capture is minimal as you are only capturing when others fail a stagnant segment offers stability and continuity but it is growth that attracts talent, excess capital, new ideas Nissan needs to make this adjustment
Gonna miss the Max. I’m currently driving my 08 with nearly 200k same engine and transmission and has given me little to no problems. I definitely got one of the better built ones 😂
As a year 2000 maxima /cefiro a33 owner ,its very sad to hear that news ,maximas aka cefiros have always been tough ,reliable everyday cars that no one really cares about but low-key,these cars rock.especially the older gens. RIP
No, Nissan didn’t just kill off a legendary sedan, it’s much bigger than that. Nissan, along with the entire pre-EV automakers are killing themselves off. EVs are nowhere near ready to replace ICE vehicles. In fact, they not likely be up to the same level of refueling (recharging) convenience, long term maintenance costs, and lifetime cost of ownership for decades. I pray someone in the government stops this complete transition to BEVs soon before the auto industry implodes.
then how do you propose an alternative solution to traditional internal combustion engines, like simply a Hybrid powertrain, maybe that doesn't require a plug?
First gen Leaf owner and now Model 3 LR owner here. They are in fact ready. I have put 110k miles on my first gen Leaf, and the fuel savings alone could’ve more than afforded the battery replacement but I opted to upgrade to a Tesla instead, and that was on an old platform with garbage battery management, fully air-cooled, so the battery in the Leaf degraded quick. At the current rate, I’m expected to replace my Model 3’s battery at 400-500k miles, and at just 26k miles ownership I have already saved enough to breakeven compared to an Accord Hybrid. Convenience wise, if you can charge at home at all, it’s already more convenient than gas as I almost never have to charge outside. I just park at night and plug in, and I wake up to a full charge that gets me through next day. There is also the added convenience of much less maintenance. Within those 26k miles, the only maintenance I have done was topping up the windshield fluid. As for my old 110k mile Leaf, it was just tires and windshield fluids. It’s still on the original brake pads thanks to regen braking. I too was a skeptic at first, so I had rented EVs quite a few times before buying them myself. Turns out, it’s more of an adaptation thing than all the myths you listed that many non-owners keep saying everywhere they go. I commute 150 miles a day for work and do roadtrips regularly. From SF to LA, I clock about the same total trip time including supercharging, give or take 15 min, as I did when I had my gas Subaru including fuel stops. This is not in the future. This is now.
I owned 3 and have done almost every performance mod that exists including supercharge, turbo, MEVI, 5 speed conversion. There will never be anything like a 4th gen max when you compare era, power, price, reliability. Even the maxima community back then was dam near amazing considering this not a flagship performance vehicle. Will always have good things to say about the PRE CVT MAX
believe it or not- the first 910s are beasts with the stroker L28 engines in them and plenty of room for turbo + piping. 300hp (detuned) all day long with GOBS of torque. a friend who lives in vegas has one and it is insane. dude goes up and down the strip challenging guys to stoplight drags. can be fun, but the guy's driving scares me. you can get the turbo stuff from nissan, but you'll need to find a good trio of twin-choke carbs. my friends has triple 44s (its a blow-thru) and they cost more than the turbo and all the other parts combined. also you want a viscous or torsen/quaife final drive unit- $$$$$.
I loved the Maxima so much when the 2016 came out. It was so futuristic at that time. So cool to me that I bought one. Unfortunately, one of the worst cars I ever owned (thanks to 2 transmission failures in the 1st 60k and the paint falling off the nose from day 1). I think they could have made a run with this thing if they would have dumped the CVT and had more power.
I want to get a 2017 Nissan Altima SL. Will it be possible to remove the Jatco CVT and put on a high quality 6 speed automatic transmission? A regular transmission will make a Altima last very longer instead of a crappy Jatco CVT
So sad, I drive a 2019 and although I'm not a big fan of the CTV, I absolutely love the car. Such a comfy and luxurious daily driver. I was hoping the next gen they were gonna considering bringing back a 6MT... but it looks like they just want Infiniti to handle that segment. Really sad stuff edit: I just want to add that they are talking about how poor the Maxima sales are in recent years... you can't even find a new one on any dealer's lots. I was considering trading in my lease a 3 year newer version but they literally do not exist out there. The computer chip shortage (I'm assuming) just really caused them to chop down production. My lease buyout is around $20k, when similar used vehicles are selling for nearly $15k more. I guess at least I bought at the right time, but I guess my next vehicle I'll have to look at Infiniti's lineup.
What's wrong with the CTV? Kirk said he didn't like the CTV. I have a 2016 Platinum; runs fantastic with smooth shifting and its' FAST! The "only" zonk I have is the limited side views when turning left/right.
Outside the Charger and 300, the closest would be the Arteon and Stinger. I know that there are rumors of Stinger getting axed, but that hasn't been confirmed

maxima is way better over the altima
@@billyclub9733 Altima was better than your q50? 😱

I owned a 1999 SE and traded it in with 90K miles and trade-in valve was still very good.
which one was the long narrow sunroof

American Maxima is actually a Japanese Cefiro not a Bluebird. The Altima was a Bluebird for years until North America started making their own.
@@xoulmannn - even though the first Supra sold was as in other markets outside JDM the Celica Supra it was ALMOST DIFFERENT ENOUGH due to the changes Toyota had to make to the Celica to accept the 2.6L I6 to be used on the CS.

@@bradvangeest That's what I stated. The Maxima, which was a continuation of the Bluebird, was derived from the JDM Cefiro.

A pity Nissan treats hybrid technology like kryptonite. That will hurt them in the long run.
I have a 2000 Maxima SE still runs great. Delivered me everywhere my whole life and I wont quit on it anytime soon. RIP

It’s very sad I had a 95 I had a 99 I had an 04,08,09,14. Always my favorite car and I had a great relationship with the Nissan dealership in my area
How sad. My parents and several of my relatives have owned Maximas. I think that generations 2-3 were the best. The current one is heavily overstyled in my opinion. The Maxima truly died for me when the manual transmission was discontinued. 😢
The 2002 one looked cool to me
@@FCT8306onTwoWheels I like that one, too. The earlier models just seemed lighter and more agile.
@@dqwaszx I feel like the 2002 with the six spoke alloy wheels was on to something with the styling
Never understood why this car existed , when Infinity was so similarly priced
This only happened in later years. And they were always two very different cars. I've owned 2 Maximas in the past. Now own a Q50
I have raced many cars with traditional transmissions and beat them. 300 h.p. 3.5 vq engine is awesome! Very good handeling car. We both wish they would make another one! 52,000 miles and going strong.👍
i wouldn't do that if i were you- thats a very expensive transmission to rebuild or replace.

Nissan maximum voltage pack with 500hp lol
The Maxima's replacement is already in progress, the IMs, a lifted electric 4 door. Probably show up in 2024/early 25
The 7th gen maxima was the best looking one
90s were bulletproof 04 n up were. Straight ShiT 💩
Cuz they know it would have outsold they infinity
@@monacemarkens6407 I wouldn't say so. Although they're similar in some ways, they appeal to different classes. I've owned 2 Maximas in the past and currently own a Q50
Are the maxima reliable?
@@Therealpeter10 I've had 2 and loved them both
What about the Nissan fuga and cima for japan? I love them even though they’re rebadged infinit q70s
Cima was killed off because it is in form of a hybrid only, but that the V6 hybrid setup failed certain new standsrds/regulations in Japan. As a result the hybrid Fuga and hybrid V37 Skyline (Q50S hybrid) have also met the same fate......
I had an '02 SE with 6spd manual.... one of my favorite cars, I loved that thing. Maximas sucked IMO after they moved manufacturing.
I had 1989 with a 5-speed, then 1996 with an auto, and went back to the 6 sp in 2001. Loved those cars.

Rest in peace, Nissan Maxima my dad had a 2009 Maxima and the thing was amazing, it was reliable and was convenient. you will be missed
I hope not, I got the 2020 8th Gen Platinum and was hoping since Toyota drop the Avalon, I was hoping the Nissan would take over the sedan market
Had an 03 SE which was one of my favorite cars to date. Man I miss that one!
Nissan maxima was a brilliant legend and it will be missed . But hopefully it will return as a ev sedan because this nameplate is too legendary. not to return .💜️💜️
I think Nissan's problem with concept cars in the past is that they show a concept and simply never build anything based on it.
that's because the concept-design guys aren't bean counters....
No to the CVT
They may be discontinued but the Legend of the Mexican with Manual Maxima destroying Porsche 911 will never die
No surprise? What?
Ppl r digging their graves and the graves of many great car models by buying up so many large, expensive, and ugly SUV’s
@@tempestsquall5882 gasoline shortages will fix that like real quick.
Had several Maximas in the past, but now went to a 2020 Q50. Wife has a 2020 Murano. Such great vehicles!
I’m loving my 2020 Maxima black and chrome deleted I get so many compliments on it and the cvt is super quick in sport mode.
I don't know what all of these people are talking about. The CVT has no more or less problems than any other transmission that Nissan puts out. I have a 2020 Q50. I went with it over the Maxima. It was a VERY close comparison, but the Q50 won lol
@@billyclub9733 they don't stand up to abuse like the good old jatco automatics and the 71-series 5-speeds do- just to warn you...
On the contrary I disliked the base Maxima you've mentioned due partly to bring paired with the cheapskate VG30E (SOHC 12v) V6 only......
the first Qs were badass!
Sad that they didn't really keep it updated...my brother had the 5th and 7th gens great car to drive...is the Altima next?
Many of these companies are going to really regret going deep dive into EV as people become more aware of the drawbacks.
I had a Maxima SL 19 and now I have a SR 21. I love this car. I mean you kinda expected more cars to go electric but damn didn't think I'd see the Maxima go away 😩😩
the sales have been crappy for years- a lot of guys saw this coming.
I think the 4th gen Maxima was the best Maxima so far.
Growing up in the 80' the Maxim SE was the bomb! All the way up to 2003......2004 Model starting to go down hill.
But wait, the 4DSC is gone??? It died years ago when they CVT it. Up Next, most of the Infiniti lineup.
This is SUV world now
I'm fine with that I love my crossover 😌
Such a power car. Glad I had the chance to experience it with my 2016’ SL model
The Maxima died years ago.
there are 3 segments:
declining, stagnant, and growth
before, most of the ideas around growth meant, new models, updated models, redesigns and such
now that governments are mandating "a set of technologies" it only makes sense for companies to consider that change
growth or growing segments always offers opportunities to do more
one can capture gains in a declining market, but the capture is minimal as you are only capturing when others fail
a stagnant segment offers stability and continuity but it is growth that attracts talent, excess capital, new ideas
Nissan needs to make this adjustment
Gonna miss the Max. I’m currently driving my 08 with nearly 200k same engine and transmission and has given me little to no problems. I definitely got one of the better built ones 😂
why would you say that?- that sounds par for the course.
As a year 2000 maxima /cefiro a33 owner ,its very sad to hear that news ,maximas aka cefiros have always been tough ,reliable everyday cars that no one really cares about but low-key,these cars rock.especially the older gens. RIP
No great loss! The real unfortunate part is that the Nissan CVT is one of the worst!
Had a 91 and 97, both manual transmissions....and a 2001. All of them were really good cars. The 91 and 97 in particular were great
No, Nissan didn’t just kill off a legendary sedan, it’s much bigger than that.
@@dennisscipio Toytoa (especially), Hyundai/Kia and Honda have been doing exactly that. Nissan acts like hybrid technology doesn't exist.

My 96 i30t was the best vehicle I ever owned, my 2010 drives like a junk mobile - 4 door sports car please, it died with the cvt
believe it or not- the first 910s are beasts with the stroker L28 engines in them and plenty of room for turbo + piping.
I think they could have made a run with this thing if they would have dumped the CVT and had more power.
well shame on you or whomever for using it as a race car.
Really sad stuff
edit: I just want to add that they are talking about how poor the Maxima sales are in recent years... you can't even find a new one on any dealer's lots.
