Great video. I think each sleeve has its pluses and minuses but your comment at the end about which golfer needs face angle vs lie angle sums it best. I have a new Mizuno ST 230 Max and I like the sleeve (similar to TaylorMade) but I play a shorter length and prefer flatter lie angles and more neutral to open faces. The one big plus about Callaway, is that you can keep your grip oriented the same no matter the adjustment.
Thanks for the great info! I play a g430 9* lst as a lefty. I came across a video on ping sleeves when trying to dial back a fade. I flattened my lie, added back some loft, and moved the weight to neutral (from draw) and I’m hitting them straight and 20-30 yards further with an occasional bias towards a fade. Centering the weight as opposed to assuming the draw setting would neutralize the fade exposed some weird gear effect and neutralizing the CG made a big difference. Love this technical type of content!
I have the same driver as a righty… I’m having trouble with consistency and keeping it in fairway. I got fitted from Club Champion. I’m gonna have to go back
I think it’s actually pretty great that the sleeves haven’t changed in awhile because it allows us to try the same shaft in multiple heads or upgrade head only when we want something new
This is by far the most informative and thorough explanation of loft sleeves. Had no idea between the options of single vs double axis sleeves. I def want to testa titlist driver now. Play Cobra currently and assume it's a single axis. Want the tweak ability of that double axis. very cool. I hit a draw 99% of the time with a decidedly flat swing and need to flatten the face while leaving the loft the same and didn't even realize this was possible. Very cool. Titleist here we come...
Great idea for a video. One of the most interesting things was how the lie angle of the drivers and impact lie angle affected the shot shape and performance. Really great info for people to see how important it is to hit some shots with different drivers and even different settings to unlock that "optimal" setting/driverhead/shaft combo for that golfer.
Great video. I would love to see a closeup of you making the adjustments to the hosels. All we see is the driver being handed off and a couple of clicks with the wrench and that's it. I'm new to these adjustable hosels and not quite sure moving what ring affects what.
Broke a shaft once. TaylorMade sent me a new one. Once I started to play it, my drives were all over the place. Went to the sim and my face was wide open. Turns out they sent me a LEFT HANDED sleeve on the new shaft! Totally opposite of my original settings. They were nice enough to replace it no questions asked.
I switched to Callaway specifically because their sleeves are superior. All adjustments and keep the grip the same, and the settings have a real effect.
Not sure if I missed it, but all of these loft sleeves do not change the actual static loft of the driver. Any loft sleeve in the plus setting will close the face angle that way in order for it to actually affect delivered loft you have to open the face angle when you strike the ball
I think Honma has the most interesting sleeve. You can make the changes to the driver with out rotating the shaft. Honma are spine aligned so the alignment stays the same, so does your grip logo and shat graphics. Don’t know why more companies are not doing this?
“All fit” adapter on my shaft, if I change head brand I can change collar to match, keep my ventus tr shaft. If I go to the local range I can demo different driver heads all with my shaft and grip.
I don’t know what has the more perfect glow when going up against each other in a close frame shot. The Ping hosel or Ian’s manly, savage tan!! Just kidding, my liege:) As always Lads, thank you for always being informative and keeping it fun for me. You guys are the best.
Callaway wins for the most adjustable and keeps the shaft oriented (important for some that play grips that orientation is important). Personally, I really like Titleist drivers since the TS series. You bought the whole thing, might as well experiment with the settings to maximize your performance
As a predominantly right to left path / over the top swing player, what would be a better adjustment? Face angle or lie? My current gamer (cobra Aerojet LS 9deg) I have set at standard loft in a draw setting. I find it hard to manage spin rate and face angle….
I wish everyone used a Callaway style hosel. I want my face square no matter what the loft. I will manipulate the face angle if I want to for a certain shot. Love my Taylormade drivers, but I’m probably going to pick up a Callaway soon to try them out.
Please keep the stats up for a couple of seconds after a shot. I back up and pause to study the details. Maybe even explain one in a video. You guys are scientists!
Other than simplicity and ease of use why doesn't everyone use a double axis sleeve adjustment? It would seem that more = better in this case. Patent protection?
I know. Callaway’s is the best for this because both cogs are independent of the shaft and you can align the shaft graphic regardless of the adaptor setting
I went through multiple fittings with different brands, and I found that Titleist T200's were the best irons for me, but my usual fit is 1 degree upright at standard length, but the Titleist hostel only changes by 2 degree increments, so I found it really frustrating that I couldn't see how it could actually perform for me after borrowing a 7i from my pro shop and taking on course with a wrench to go between standard and 2 degree upright. I really needed to try it with just 1 degree upright! Really annoying!
is it true that for every degree of loft on a single axis sleeve, you can expect a corresponding 1.8* change of face angle? 1 Degree lower Loft = 1.8 degree open and vice versa for the other direction.
That is correct if the club is grounded. The assumption from the manufacturers is that the player will grip the club and square it up off the ground. So when you drop loft, the face angle opens, and then the reduction in loft is achieved by the player then ‘shutting’ the face to square it up. You could argue it’s all a bit of a con. Unless you hover the club and square it up in your hands, you never actually change the loft.
I've always been surprised that there has never been an aftermarket offering for a dual axis sleeve for taylormade or any of the other single axis sleeves. It's wouldn't be terribly difficult to do.
If I have a slight fade and I hit the ball out of the middle/heel, what setting should I be using for my titleist tsi3. Right now I have it on H2 and d3 for sleeve
I think you mixed up flatter and upright in the description @ 11:06. Or are drivers different from irons? With irons my understanding was that a flatter lie angle iron plays effectively longer and more upright lie angle plays shorter. Is it not the same for a driver?
They typically refer to this as a retrofit. Ian has talked about this service during their Monday Live shows a number of times. They did a video back on April 18th for their Follower Fittings called How to Get the Most Out of Your Current Clubs. It was focused on irons, but they did a retrofit of the golfer's existing irons and ended up adjusting his lofts and lie angles. It'll give you a good idea of what the process is like. Club Champion has a blog post from a couple years ago called “Fitting existing sets.” It's not very detailed but it covers this service too.
Maybe it’s just my brain getting lost in the sauce as they say. Have a Cobra Driver, tried messing with the settings over the past few years to see what works best. The driver head always seems to look the same when I set it down. Just shaft is rotated. 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
Cobra call that design smart pad. They actually intentionally want to the driver to look similar in different settings. The loft and lie will change but the face angle remains fairly neutral.
Great video! and a bit different but absolutely relevant. What i would like to see in future videos is just a little more elaboration on the conclusion. A summary that states for the viewers what youve found, how to implement or practice the findings of your research, and in some cases even best picks in different scenarios. Id like some more clarity in your last part of these videos. Cheers from Norway
So guys what’s your thoughts on this, I play a TSR3 10 Deg driver on A4 setting went for a GT3 fitting and was put in an 11 Deg head on A1 setting, (with improved club head & ball speed) must admit at 63 and playing off 3 I don’t have the consistency I once had and subsequently depending on what I find on the range before a comp I’m not adverse to tweaking my driver, even down to D1. So I question whether 11 or in fact 10 is the best head starting point. Answer is probably to practice more and stop being a tweaker. Best Regards Raymond
I have a Ping fitted by your facility that was 9 deg head. Struggled to get it in the air, so I started moving the hosel adjust around. I tend to hook it, so I went into the flatter settings to increase loft to 10 deg but hated it, I'm currently into the 10.5 deg on the normal lie angle side with no real benefit noticed. For me, I think the head has to be fit to hopefully work in the neutral setting and once you start getting into that hosel adjustment, you're likely going to be unhappy. It doesn't sit on the ground properly anymore. In the neutral setting, I sit the club behind the ball and its nice and flat with the face pointing at the target. In any of the other settings, the head points off line and you have to physically hold the driver face to point at the target which is inconsistent and difficult to replicate. I cant get it to work, so am looking for another driver.

@@andrewhay8033I’m afraid you have a fundamental misunderstanding about how loft sleeves work. The loft is changed when you square the face.
