Il est grand temps que le règne des metteurs en scène se terminent. Turandot n'est pas une hallucination, c'est B.Kosky qui hallucine !!!

Fun fact: before Barrie Kosky came along, Turandot was always unpopular and unsuccessful.
Can someone tell us if the unfinished version has been performed anywhere since Toscanini, PLEASE ??
I wonder if this was the first time after nearly 100 YEARS ??
It has happened that the opera ends after Lius death, although on very few occasions. The real uncut version of the Alfano ending has been performed several times, for example whith Gwyneth Jones in London 1985. The Pappano recording is the first ever studio recording of that ending.
I would have lots of reflexions on Barrie Kosky's vision. Would love to watch it & hear Tamara Wilson's Turandot & those newcomer singers to my operatic culture.
If You have an Open mind, it is a VERY GOOD and different experience, I enjoyed it please note that you will not see it everyday, one day and You may be ecstatic (an opportunity to see it without the happy end composed by Alfano)
SHAMEFUL of the Dutch National Opera to censor negative criticics. This is a horrible product and we don't like it. Keep doing opera to people that don't like it, that sounds like a great idea.
I'm really sorry to say this, but I wish I had left my house to watch an Opera, and not “Walking dead” or any zombie movie. To watch this kind of horror movie, all I had to do was to turn on Netflix. Wonderful orchestra and choir, but the costumes and all the decorations managed to accomplish the impossible: to make the whole spectacle ugly. It seemed like a satanic ritual. Not only that, they deconstructed and mischaracterized the whole Opera. Where are the chinese characteristics? My wallet regrets.

What did I just watch? LOL.
That Turandot does not exist but is an archetype is the first time I’ve ever perceived the problems of that work addressed. I’m not sure misogyny is more represented than every archetype relating to power.
Gisterenavond deze prachtige voorstelling gezien. Geen traditionele uitvoering, maar een moderne, interessante take met veel symboliek. Hierdoor wordt de kijker uitgedaagd en daar houd ik van.
Ga er zeker met een open mind naar toe. De muziek en uitvoering waren verschrikkelijk mooi. Zou de opera graag nog een keer zien :)

Nothing can be worse than his Meistersinger, though. I don't think any producer has ever insulted a composer on such a flamboyant and meaningless way.
and yet all the shows were sold out. Yes these renditions require a bit more from the audience, but it's a unique experience you can't get anywhere else in the world.

Wonderful production, I think that the end that brings the curtain down after Liu's suicide has never been done after the premiere conducted by Toscanini ??

What grotesque and weird staging...
Everything is misogynist these days. And Puccini's "orientalism" had the same strange effect when he recreated American culture in "Fanciulle". It's part of the artform. Every conductor imagines and re-creates the setting through his own style and language. Even John Adams did that in "Nixon in China", to very interesting results.
People who hate opera do anything they can to disrespect and ruin it under the guise of artistic license and pushing their own agenda and interests. Knock it off. You’re killing this art form. Go write your own plays and operas instead of ruining masterpieces that you could never write due to lack of talent and inspiration.
I’d sell a kidney to see this production! Kosky is a visionary! And Tammy Wilson is going to rock the house down!!!

We zijn geweest afgelopen zaterdag en we vonden t een aanfluiting. Het speelt zich toch in China af? Totaal niet het juiste gevoel gehad. We vonden het een staaltje "kijk ons hipsters eens een moderne versie maken van een unieke opera".
Kleurloos en veels te diep gedacht over de belangrijke momenten zodat je af en toe dacht: wat moet dit nu betekenen?
Geef ons maar de originele versie.
