This is gotta be the best video on how to swap your alternator on your civic thanks a million for taking the time to do this brother, Cheers from Los Angeles
Thank you very much for a great video, very clear, and straight forward instruction. I will use your video as a guide helping me to replace my own 2003 Honda Civic alternator. Again, thanks for your time and effort creating a very helpful and informative video.
I watch alot of these vids because I'm still pretty new to turning wrench and I gota say this video was perfect. No bullshit. Light quick relatable comedy without being over the top, and careful quick and detailed walkthrough that shows footage of every step. Guess I have to break some more shit that you have done videos for. Thanks!
@@TonyTheTruckGuy Absolutely dude. I change jobs in two weeks, so if you could just start working on small engines and rental equipment that would be fuckin' swell haha. Seriously though, I'll be checking your channel first before searching any car tutorials again.
@@DannyTwoCoats Haha! I think small engine is probably my weakest area. I’m actually a diesel truck mechanic, but I do primarily automotive UA-cam repairs as to not step on my employer’s toes or create any sort of drama. That, and it just so happens you make a lot of friends that need auto repairs when you know how to turn a wrench 😂
Like the fact that you shared your struggles to us and how you came up with the solution. For example, around at 9:30 i was trying to remove the connectors for days but i was scared and ended up just left them like that (i should inspect the conditions, but im nervous. Your video boost up my confidence. thank you!
Thank you sir I followed your video today and changed the Alternator on my son 2005 Civic everything went great bottom mounting bolt /nut was a little tricky but everything turned out great thank you !!!
Very clear instructions. Tight places and normal tools, nothing special to use in the repair. My power steering pump tensioner bolt snapped from rusting in place, so ordered a new one (less than $8). Going through the fender well helps tremendously.
The battery is either the wrong type or installed backwards because the terminals should be closer to the engine. Installed this way, the hood prop rod can short out against the positive terminal.
Ohhhhh I can’t remember now it’s been a while and of course filming adds time and then I had to mess with that connector. Probably an hour or 2 if you have all the tools and don’t run into any issues.
@@TonyTheTruckGuy thanks for the reply, yea I just did this same job on a civic ( 05 ) and the design is ridiculous, took me about 3 plus hours with all the tools , the problem was that the sliding bracket for the alternator gets in the way of the actual lower alternator bolt , it's easier to just remove the whole bracket which is held on by 1 bolt the put the slider bracket bolt in then install, ( if you know what I mean ) whacky ass design if you ask me ! Cheers from Ohio ! 🍻
@@lostinspacerobinson1527 Haha yeah, the design could definitely be better, and I remember that bracket being annoying. I'm sure you had to deal with a little Ohio rust as well haha. Glad you got it figured out, though!
Not sure off the top of my head, but unless you get a hook up through someone, I’d say find the Honda part number for what you want and just search that number online for the best price.
Who says 1-2 hrs? Is that what book time is? That sounds about right though. It could be done faster but as you see with the rusty wing nut, the time can add up quickly.
@@Warmspringsrezbuck Hard to say. If everything goes right, 1-2 hrs is probably right. This one was a bit rusty and didn’t come apart perfect. So that added time, also filming and commenting added time. Same with replacing that connector that the wires ripped on.
I got a new battery put in 4 months and today I was at a stop sign and the car started shaking back and forth and when I got home to park the car the battery light came on. Does that mean the alternator had something to do with that? I know little to nothing about cars
Battery light just means low voltage in general, but there could be several possible causes. I actually have another video on this exact car showing how to check the alternator if you wanted to check that one out.
My car won’t start after replacing the alternator. It was working before but not it won’t start and light won’t turn on. What could I have done wrong? Did they sell me a faulty alternator?
@@leecountycopwatch81 That’s fine so long as the connection is good and snug. Make sure battery cables aren’t loose and same at alternator. Could it be possible you left the door open or something while changing the alternator and the battery is just dead?
@@TonyTheTruckGuy battery is good. I had it tested as well as the alternator. The fuse blows. I’m not sure what it could be. I’ll be seeing a mechanic lol

It was a job but I got it out thanks for all your help I believe it's the original one cuz it says Honda on the alternator 20 years mine the 2001

Where did you find this power steering tensioner bolt? Had the same issue.
Hondapartsonline.net. Expect to pay expensive shipping. Was about $8 for bolt, $17 for shipping.
Thankyou! Doing this tomorrow bro’
Thx you some much!!! Had to call Honda today to order that wing screw and bracket for the lower alternator.
I can’t believe that design 😂😂
The battery is either the wrong type or installed backwards because the terminals should be closer to the engine. Installed this way, the hood prop rod can short out against the positive terminal.
If you flipped the battery around, the ground cable would be on the opposite side as the ground post lol.
@@TonyTheTruckGuy it’s the wrong battery.
@@CarsandCoding Very possible. The car has been junked for a few years now, unfortunately, so no more worries 😂

On my civic the cable to the battery was broken no contact from battery to alternator. Hopefully that fixes my issue

Nope, typically when you're replacing the alternator, you won't have this problem. Not sure how exactly this happened lol.
Normally alternators should be on top of the engines.. this is poor wrong design.. it's an imported compact engine from chaina
That's why I like my American V8's lol
