Incredible interview. I know ultrasound is used to ablate glioblastoma cells - so pivoting this transducer to measure down to the hundreds of oxygenated neurons scale is extremely valuable. What would be the theoretical resolution limit in terms of measuring firing rates via blood flow? I wonder how the two metrics are correlated...
Functional ultrasound (fUS) tracks brain activity by measuring blood flow, but it’s limited by a slow response (1-2 seconds) and aggregates signals from hundreds of neurons, not individual firings. This makes it less accurate for capturing precise, real-time neural activity.
