This group became my favorite musical group from the first time I heard them in the early 70's. It's 2021 and they're still my favorite musical group. Too bad the lead musician died of a heart attack so the group had to disband. So much more beauty the world could have heard. I still listen to them on a regular basis and glad we have what we have.
Chucks farm house was a half mile from mine we also went to school together. Ionce offered him a job but he said he was going with the bee gees .ionce rode in one of his great cars.
I saw this lineup n 1995 at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco. It was an amazing show , my friends had no idea what they were in for and left the show ecstatic. The band was mesmerizing and locked in, a magical evening in every way.
Shadowfax would play a dive bar across the street where I worked in Iowa back in the '80s. They were stars in the Midwest in the day. It felt so underground. Great memories.
When I first heard 'The Orangutan Gang (strikes back)', I thought 'Oh my goodness! What did I just listen to? '......I heard it played on WXRT in Chicago (1990s) .. I purchased the 'Too Far To Whisper' CD and I was HOOKED! So many wonderfully evocative songs! Song For My Brother China Blue Shadowdance Tsunami Road To Hanna Incredible.....
Shadowfax has been one of my favorite bands since I was a little kid in the 80s. Mom had a cassette copy of their self-titled album, and I was entranced by it. It's amazing to see them live! Thanks for making this available!
I just got a shadowfax cd from the thrift store today. had to look them up first. Now I’m excited my intuition told me to get it. I liked the band name and the landscape album art. Right up my alley!!
Much thanks again for this awesome production, my girls & I loved playing it over and over tonight in our discovery here! As well for the years of deep listening and spirit filled pleasures. Few words & the internet do society or selves no justice, except if were 'talking' something like Shadowfax. My small token in returns for now! Many blessings back... pretty sure the line up is as follows Woodwind, Lyricon - Chuck Greenberg, Congas, Percussion - Ramon Yslas, Drums - Stu Nevitt* Electric Bass - Phil Maggini, Guitar - Andy Abad ,Keyboards - Armen Chakmakian a truly great band instantly recognisable some of the first CD's I ever bought mind blowing after only having them on cassette
I was there. We got to stay for two full rounds for the price of one, they were awesome, and wanted the house packed for these shows. Cool to be able to see this again.
!982 Red Rocks Amphitheatre in the foothills west of Denver, with Spiro Gyra. I think I remember it rained on us but every concert at Red Rocks is good
So chronologically, this was at their end? Great to see; we are very lucky. Thank you! How about adding a list of musicians playing here? I can only reliably name one.
Thanks for your comment, Jeff. Please check the playlists on this channel for several earlier concerts, including Montreux ('85). I will add the musicians to the '95 concert now

Thx 4 posting this treasure in Shadowfax, only things missing here are a violin and strings member (which filled even more remarkably in the already deep matrix of sounds) and a couple more jamm'in tunes here like (Oasis, O'tang Gang, Boomerang, 1001 Nights, Waterway Course 'any', Odd Get Even, Here Dress Hangs There, and any of rest). Amazing Legends of Jazz & Windham Hill, top rate by musical (if not current commercial standards) loved the "do not block intersection" spot on Street noise, and the jungle! Very fortunate and amazing to have seen live in Ft. Worth around same time (top 5 of all the many gigs I've seen overall). That night I heard the best & most lengthy pre-intro spoken about musicians ever (difficult to say enough 4 sure). Which reflects volumes of this grouping mix. Music mediocrity = from grammy & WH legends to obscurity in jazz even, craziness. Much like this bands musical presence, cross cultural, genre, resonance, language and values of sound, as well as intangibles, mystical, surreal, elusive, mercurial, simply one of a kind and the best, just like the name and other mythic legends of the air. I believe strongly that jazz and music has forgotten the bridge that these musicians and others from the mid to late 70's through 90's created new age to refreshen, revive & move jazz forward. Myself and other musicians over that time though of Greenburg, Bisharat, Szmadzinski and Lewis as midi gods, along with Maggini, Stinson and Nevitt high level added creative technical skill, a collective of true creative pure artists (like Yes and some others) speaks volumes of their unique sound, versatility and variety in body of work. Can you help all this out please, anyone?, Shhhhhhadowfax? Shhhhh.... listen!!!! =p Love, light & best Greenshadow Music... Joe... twitter @RealSocialBuzz ...Facebook Reelz Too Realz =)
I’m not sure what it is about this particular performance, but I think I’ve listened to the Palookaville gig more times than any other Shadowfax recording. Top-notch performances all around from all of the guys with a nice mix of the classic Windham Hill songs and the underrated later compositions. Shadowfax in a nutshell, IMO. Plus it’s got both of my personal favorite numbers, A Pause in the Rain & Shadowdance.
Thank you for your nice comments and enduring ShadowFandom! The band worked really hard to create the best watching/listening experience possible. A Pause in the Rain is my absolute favorite, to the point that I gave my memoir about Chuck Greenberg and Shadowfax the same title. Yes! Here they have the bottom that Windham Hill didn't want us to hear but I remember from Chicago gigs c.1980. Also those magical transitions, like Rainforests to Ariki... No GE Stinson on guitar here (excellent blues guitarist when the band wanted to go in that direction - again, not welcome at Windham Hill, sadly), but his replacement is all right in what I've heard so far... I get the tonal overlap of lyricon & violin, but I sure wish Greenberg had played his tenor more & that lyricon less.
I had a tape of theirs in middle school, and listened to it A LOT. Good stuff, but no one else I show them to understands why I like it. :D

Shadowfax got me through some dark times in my early years.
I wore my shadowfax records out. The lead there invented that thing he's playing. This is one of a kind music.
Chucks farm house was a half mile from mine we also went to school together. Ionce offered him a job but he said he was going with the bee gees .ionce rode in one of his great cars.

Rip Chuck Greenberg a Lyricon magician master
Chuck eas the kind of guy that would carry on a conversation with you but his head was in another room writing and arranging misic
Masterful! Little did we know Chuck Greenwood would pass 9 months after this performance, such a tragic loss to so many.
Indeed--(Joy Greenberg)
Chuck Greenberg was an amazing musician/composer and Stu Nevitt was probably one of the best drummers ever.
I still can't get over how tight these guys were. Just spectacular musicianship

that bass that gets it all rolling!
The kind of music they create, I cannot imagine how anyone actually sat down and created it but man do I love this stuff.

Buena Música. !! Gran grupo en esos tiempos .Si que suena diferente cuando tocaban en vivo...
I could imagine being at the rain forest cafe in 1995 with this
Thank you Greenshadow Music for posting this. I only wish I had been there to see it live in person.
Diverse musicians striking beautiful rhythms. Talent far exceeding the views expressed.

To make things even cooler, the ban is named after Gandalf's horse. Shadowfax is a Tolkienism :-)
Nice playing Chuck, we miss you.
I love this band.
Holy shit I've been looking forever for some Shadow Fax live performances. Thank You!
Check out the other videos on this channel--there are several more live concerts I've uploaded
I am taking my Dr. Funkies, Humboldt ways, tall trees, less Stumpies, planted Redwoods, Shadowfax whispering through those Trees that are the Forest!!
Actually had to tell them to turn it up, thoughtfully, mystically, reinforced!
I wish this came out on bluray. I've never seen this on dvd either.
At last, Shadows pass, Shadowfax, the Ride now taking, gallantly striding away!

I know I tried to do some physical work to it once; it felt great, my co worker agreed, but our boss said it slowed us down noticeably.🤷

And the keyboardist looks like Kenny G!
No GE Stinson.
I didn't know Kenny G played keyboards! ;)
😆
any idea why this show recently got taken off of spotify?
There was a problem with the title that was causing some confusion. It will be back up on March 1, if not sooner. Thanks for letting me know--Joy
A fax without a dayglow maybe, Shadowfax just flies above the Rest, not Commercial anyways!
