  • Often timber is the focus of silvopasture literature, but the benefits of shade, shelter, and especially animal fodder offer a range of opportunities for animal health and nutrition. Join us for a presentation on the best fodder species and management practices for the cool temperate climate, along with strategies to establish and maintain them.
    Steve Gabriel is Agroforestry Extension Specialist for the Cornell Small Farms Program and the author of SILVOPASTURE (2018). He co-owns and stewards Wellspring Forest Farm in the Finger Lakes Region of NY alongside his wife Elizabeth, where they produce pastured lamb, duck eggs, maple syrup, mushrooms, and elderberry, all from agroforestry systems

    Do you put the silvopasture trees in gopher cages? If so, does it not cause low growth?

    I was surprised to hear honey locust does nt do well in the north. It is a common street tree in Ottawa Ontario. The Dominion Arboretum has massive century old specimens.
    I have some seedlings growing now that i hope to feed cattle their pods in the future as suggested by J. Russell Smith.
    I have lots of Bebbs Willow but my cows dont like it much. Too much tanins?

    It’s always been my understanding that you can’t feed black locust to sheep. What has your experience been?

    Odd to ask this. Any chance we can donate for a Native planting advise for different areas around usa. Also, a more polyculture style planting for silvopasture? I hope I get to see more of your work out there over the next 20 years. good luck and thanks for helping to save the earth for humans to actually live on it.

    The video ends partway through the webinar...is there a "part 2" or did it perhaps just not upload all the way? Good webinar though, thanks for putting it together and posting it!

      I can't view the end of the video as well. 49:04 doesn't seem to be the end of the webinar

    Can someone answer if they are feeding this to livestock because I keep reading that it is toxic.

    • @FarmingWithTrees
      @FarmingWithTrees  3 місяці тому +1

      this? if you mean Black locust, it is not toxic unless animals are not used to self regulating forages (i.e. get a ration) and then can over-eat it.

    38:18 Have you tried spraying the bar with something that smells gross? We do it for deer and goat training. I'm not sure if it will work for sheep. The goats still strip bar when land clearing so it doesn't break the habit.

    I’m living on “former” Native American lands. This land doesn’t belong to native Americans anymore and hasn’t belonged to them for hundreds of years now.
