A project that rewards the habitability and comfort. A boat of 15 meters with two large cabins and up to six beds. We tried the version with Zeus pod drives and two 550 horsepower Cummins engines in very rough sea conditions, and this is our spectacular test.

The Sea Ray 510 is remarkable because it enters the European Yacht market crowded with stylish and innovative designs and aces most of them with confidence. You can find a number of builders with pedigree and high quality but Sea Ray is easily on par with the very best. Personally I prefer a flybridge but the 510 Sundancer is an almost perfect design.

Also.. Growing up in New England I always hear the saying 'the second best day in a boat owners life is the day he buys his boat... The best day is when he finally manages to sell it' owning a boat is a commitment of time, money and energy. So when you're looking to make a purchase this large you want a network that can service that investment, maintenance it and even help you sell it when the time comes. You also want to have access to communities that share the experience of owning the same boat as you and have developed methods for reducing the impact it has on their wallet and schedule. I see a strong case for buying a Sea Ray at this price point as well as others.

One thing too with owning a boat is the ability to think outside the box and don't shop at the ship/marina chandlery. I had an issue with mine where I split the pumpout hose and cracked some fittings. Cost to replace them at the Chandlery? $400.
Cost at a plumbing store? $36.00.
My boat had a grey swoosh down the side with black fenders it looked great. BUT the white lines looked cruddy after a month or two. Plus it only came with lines for one side. Cost to replace them all at the chandlery and to put ones on the starboard side? $780.00
I went to my local hardware store, ordered a roll of black 5/8" braided nylon. $250 ft roll for $275.00. I bought a fid, and a booklet on how to make the eye loops on the ends. Took me an afternoon to put the eye loops in. Soon as my boat buddies found out I could do it? I had orders up to my ears....

8L per mile that's pretty damn good. I had a 30 footer that, at 68 mph, burned through 2 gallons per mile. Now this isn't going 68 but it also weighs about 4 times as much.

9:11 the waves are really high? seriously? I used to boat on Lake Ontario and I'd routinely be out in 12' from trough to peak.

1514 litres of fuel. Where I live in Canada that's about $3000 to fill up hahah.

For a boat this size it’s disappointing to see how slow it is wide open 26 Knotts? This boat should be doing at least 35 knotts wide-open totally under powered

He did say these are the smaller engines. Don't forget too: your top speed will vary depending on the wind conditions. It isn't a HUGE factor on land but it is on the water. I also wonder how those speedos calculate the speed. Is that measured on the water or via GPS? They WILL vary.
This is also a cruiser, NOT a sport boat.

Can you realistically drive this yacht across the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean?

    • @vinmatrix76
      @vinmatrix76 5 років тому

Not really. If you had good weather, and someone to make fuel drops for you, then yes or more like maybe. Fuel is the biggest hurdle. Then comes weather. Anything over 50 foot could handle most things, but you really never know.

8L per mile, 1514L capacity, 200 mile range (approx). $3000 to fill up where I live so to get across from gander nfld to the azores which is 1418 nm you'd need 7 tanks for a total of $21,000.00.

The problem with sea ray Sundance is is there to slow it should do easily 34kn a boat that size I’m not impressed at all. Should have a choice of more horsepower on the engines for better speed

If you'd watched the video they do have bigger engines. Not like you'll have to worry about it since you probably couldn't afford to pay the dock fees let alone fill it up with fuel.

Unfortunately, the 510 is very under powered and sea-ray has become the Bayliner boats
