I bought a copy of your book a while back. It was very sad, but also extremely inspiring. Your insights, life experiences and wisdom are highly admirable. There are many "human rights activists" who haven't encountered even a small fraction that you did, and don't understand what human rights really means. I think Ri Sol Ju knows what could happen to her because she was "picked" by Kim Jong Un to be his wife. Not much difference than getting picked for the Pleasure Squad. You must go. She knows she is "close to the sun" and could get burned, meaning killed if she displeases Kim Jong Un in any way. She knows the game and she is playing it well. I am stuck in bed recovering from cancer surgery and using my down time to try and learn some things about the world... I just stumbled on your channel, so maybe you have answered this in another video, but can you talk about disability in DPRK? Do people use wheelchairs? What about children with intellectual disability like Down Syndrome? Or sight and hearing impairment? What's the situation for them?

@@everythingsfinett3903 Those are typically ones who stayed in East Asia. Most North Korean escapees who were kidnapped & brought back were those residing in South Korea, China, Japan, etc.
It's much harder to infiltrate a country so much further away & successfully kidnap an adult person from their territory.
Yeonmi is a US citizens now. If anything happens to her, it will be an international incident.
She is so brave for doing this work. I can't imagine the inner strenght it takes to did what she did, AND THEN keep speaking up about her experiences and exposing the regime. Yeonmi is a hero and I will try to spread the voice! Hopefully we will see our fellow human beings set free one day...

Yeonmi you're an angel. I love your work. My heart breaks for my fellow human beings struggling in North Korea, it's super frustrating how little awareness the general public has! Or more frequently I encounter people with this opinion of "yeah I know it's bad, but I'm sure it's not /that/ bad" & I get overwhelmed because there's so many examples of how horribly really "that bad" it really is but it's like they have a hard time believing it because omg it's such an atrocious truth....
But I want you to know, I know maybe 80% of what I do about the dprk struggle because of you. The other sources I find are helpful but you are my turn-to for up-to-date &/or new-to-me news, I mean from the history to the current affairs to the interviews and stories you tell... your channel is a godsend of information & I want you to know how big an impact you've made to me. Horrible that she is in that situation. She seems beautiful and talented. She is the first lady, and to be treated like that is horrible. It says a lot about a society and a culture.
If anything happens to the young Kim it will be her and her children that suffer.
Glad to live in the USA, we have a lot of rights here. You can really succeed as a female, and get away from danger and have a helping hand from bad situations.
Even if you have kids, there are a lot of places in America that take in whole families if the woman and the children are in a dangerous situation.
that does say a lot for you to come from that society, you are very strong and have survived really crazy stuff. It takes a lot to physically and mentally go through all that but probably even more to still be sane after all of it.

She must worry about her children all the time. There are rivals to her children for the "throne", her own life is always in danger, and she seems very quiet and nice. I don't know but we all know her life and the lives of her children are in danger.

May we all heal and bring love, truth, and courage into this world. May we all cherish the freedoms we have and do what we must to protect them at all costs, for our children.
9:42 i am really wondering HOW another autoritarian regime who sort of opresses their own people (freedom of religion drastically tightened, freedom of speech, jail as soon as you so much as funnily look towards government, Tien an Men massacre, cenzorship and many more) would save NK. This thinking basically equals what happened to central and eastern europe countries after soviet army freed them from nazis only to be enslaved for 40 years under brutality of soviet regime.
Yes, NK must be free, but NOT with help of any autoritarian regimes. If they are to be free and feel the wind of hope and democracy, such wind must blow from countries which mean them well. Countries like China or Russia are following only their own despotic interests. They would help NK only if there is something in it for them.
I hope those who live in North Korea live peacefully and can go to South Korea for their good life. I hope I pray.

North Korea is governed by using psychological principles perfectly ,not like Soviet-Union.
On one side he offers a possibility to identify oneself with the living god for having a real positive life motivation.And he uses brutality beyond all normal measures to make his people use the offered way of positive motivation.The western culture uses a similar way of motivation.Each person can be a personal god in the way of having success in wealth and social acceptance.And people have terrible fears of failing.That works,too.Soviet union since the seventies didn't offer a real positive goal and a real great fear.That created the breakdown though the Stasi tried best to stop it with "soft" measurements like Zersetzung.If the general motivation fits to nature of mankind(great vision combined with real fear) most people want to be part of the system.The amount of opponents is small,in North Korea as in western societies.North Korea kills them,western societies either put them in prison,in psychiatry or do Zersetzung with better success than the Stasi,as they stay isolated in a world of narcissm.
Being part of the western culture,of course I don't want to live in North Korea.But probably I would feel good living there if I had grown up there,feeling great being a part of a society led by a living god.

Hmm. So let me see if I am understanding correctly based on many videos I have watched from this channel. People in North Korea are aware of "songbun".... the Social Classification System... that they cannot marry up. They can only marry up. But they also knew that this woman was low songbun and "their dear leader" all supreme high mighty and untouchable marries a commoner... and this means the people are saved? This makes no sense. Wouldn't this be a way to make North Koreans weary of the songbun system and of their leader? Could you please explain this? Thank you.

No choice, if dictator wants to marry you and you say "No" you, your family members, your relatives and most likely all your friends will be sent to the camp and/or executed 😔 I see no way marriage is happy, but as Yonmi said, one wrong move and she is dead.
