Only photos of Yeonmi I can find of her childhood, and in her book, is of her living a privileged lifestyle in North Korea. There are no published photos of Yeonmi aged over 8 in North Korea. South Korea Intelligence (NIS) and govt verified, in contrast what she claims in her novel, she actually left North Korea when she was either 8/9yrs old: twenty yrs ago. I can’t wait for the day North Korea is free of the dictator and its regime, and instead is able to live free lives. With plenty of food just like China and South Korea. Where they won’t have to clean the portrait or memorize propaganda but instead can prepare huge feasts to share with family, friends, neighbors and (why not?) tourists. I would love to visit, bring treats from my country to share and celebrate with them!

With mandates to inject someone against their will with an experimental concoction and sending people who refuse to 'quarantine' CAMPS, only letting some go shopping if the can prove their injection, I have my doubts. Every tyranny starts with one mandate. If anyone is still shocked by N-Korea, they must open their eyes to our world and what is slowly creeping in too.

I’ve read Park’s book and watched her videos, and this is my impression to Yeonmi Park:
      1) She and her family used to have a good life in North Korea. She had Nintendo in 1993. Her entire family (from grandma to children) do many illegal things to make money. Even after she went to China, she also involves illegal business. And she is proud of telling these in her book because it’s “for living” (meanwhile many North Koreans choose not to do these things)
      2) From her video, if you look in her eyes, watch her gestures, you will know she’s lying. It’s so obvious, if you are more than 20 years old you can easily understand what i’m saying. Actually she should have done better at lying skills, but due to her lack of education, she’s not mentally mature, the truth is she can’t lie well. Her “Breaking News” about what recently happens in North Korea has no source.
      3) It’s so obvious that she was trying to make some money out of her influence, again due to her lack of education, she couldn’t do well in hiding her purpose of making money.

My first comment here! I've been "following" your story since your One Young World speech and recently I came across your youtube channel. As many people here I just want to use this as a means to express my gratitude for the effort you're putting into providing this type of content awareness and message.Unfortunately ,human nature tends to entice us to seek comfort so as a response we need to maintain sources of reality and shock value alive as a stimuli that reminds us that all we got is us.There's no humanity without freedom, we might not know for sure why but we are here. This world...We belong to it ,we're a part of it so what we do in and with it is our responsibility. It doesn't go unnoticed , we're here, we hear you , we resonate with you because we're human and this is everything we have.I can't talk for other people but please know that we're all here fighting by your side by planting seeds with every deed we can in our lifes, homes, cities and countries and that everytime you decide to raise your voice one more time you're sparking another flame in someone else's heart, one that cannot and will not be extinguished.May you carry the strength to face this tyranny and prosper. We're fighting for it with you.Thank you so much Yeonmi.

Not sure what percentage of the population is awakened to the truth, I know some have a clue who live near the border with China as Naomi mentioned once they can see the trash and plastic waste in the river on the Chinese side and they reason that China must be way wealthier than North Korea because of all the plastic and trash they have. Your stories about what North Koreans are going through are so harrowing. I pray and wish to the bottom of my heart that they will one day be able to live their lives free from fear; to enjoy the feeling of a fully belly every day; to live their lives according to their own choices; and to be treated like human beings and not slaves for the regime. Being so passionate about helping your homeland, it must make you feel so helpless sometimes - how can any of us make a difference to such a powerful and secretive regime? But at least your work is bringing knowledge - and that's significant. You are giving the rest of the world a chance to know what people are going through. They don't have to suffer in silence like the regime wants it. You've given people like me a chance to share our hearts with these people I have never met, but feel so much for. And your work is exactly the kind of thing that the regime would hate more than anything. They thrive on secrecy, but you are shining a much needed light on the unbelieveable horrors that occur for the English speaking world to hear and read about. We can't imagine a life like that and without knowledge like your stories, the regime can continue to take advantage of reasonable doubt. Thank you and I wish with all of my heart that the people suffering in North Korea can one day eat and share with each other like they do on New Year's every day, and live without the fear of disappearing or losing their loved ones constantly hanging over their heads.

Heartbreaking. But also uplifting to hear how the human spirit still survives in the harshest of conditions.
As a jew I heard stories about what people went through in the Holocaust. It is unbelievable that Koreans go through similar terrible conditions their entire life.

She knows shit about communism. She's from a rural village which is totally involved in free trade with China until her dad gets busted for illegal contraband. After fleeing North Korea there's a missing year and a half before emerging in the Gobi Desert. Most other defectors end up in massage parlours on the Chinese border selling sex to save money to pay Christian brokers $10,000-$20,000 to help them defect to South Korea. *See other UA-cam videos to what happens to North Korean women who get trafficked by Church organisations

@Mayassocalledlife thats bull. There is no such thing as real communism. It will always end like it did in history, if you want it in a big scale, bigger than just a little hippies commune. "Real communism" is an UTOPIA and doesnt exist. And its exactly that on paper. It will never work for a country. At some point the differing voices will have to be kllled. Thats how it always ends.

Yeonmi. In the next print of your book, it would be nice, if you could to explain Korean pronounciation. I know a few words/names now by spelling, but I certainly have no clue on how to properly pronounce it. Also, not going to ask about Ros and Rachel, however I would love to hear more about your or North Korean perception when it comes to Chandlers Dad. I'm going to try this again since my last comment was barraged by NK operatives sending me to a propaganda channel featuring the extra-marital mistress of Kim Jong-Un.
Yeonmi, thank you for all you do to raise awareness for the North Korean people. I pray for them everyday (which seems to trigger their operatives). I humbly ask you to link in your descriptions to organizations that help the North Korean sex slaves and orphans so we can be more proactive and make sure they have the resources they need.
To those who have a problem with prayer - I do not care if you think it works or not. If you truly believe my prayers make no difference, then you have nothing to worry about if someone prays.
And to you, Kim Jong-Un, your time is much shorter than you think, and one day you, even you, your father, mother, wife, mistress, children, and grandfather will ALL bow down to the real Jesus Christ and admit that He is the King of all Kings. You are not God. You are not A god. You like to blow your dissenters to smithereens, therefore just as you have tried to erase the memory of these poor people, there will be nothing left of you once your judgment comes. And when the Kim dynasty falls, there will be a great celebration. No one will mourn any of you ever again. You will be nothing more than a memory that fades with time.

How can they hope to even touch their leaders when the regime has abuse down to a fine art. Few people will risk not only their lives - but hte lives of all of their loved ones - for a cause that they feel has no hope of success. Because the regime doesn't stop at killing one person - they kill your entire family if you fall foul of them. It's coercive control on a nation-sized scale, supported by violent, devastating consequences that few people in ANY country would ever willingly risk.
Additionally, when maintaining basic necessities like food, shelter, heating for yourself and your family is at the forefront of your mind every single day, there isn't much time or energy left for anything else. Survival alwys comes first, and unless you've ever been in a situation where your very survival, and that of your family, is under threat - it is hard to truly appreciate how lucky those of us who have time and energy for other pursuits are.
