      No need to plug the inner side of the primary as there is a steel collar insert so nothing can get into the primary. The outer plug is only for aesthetics and not there to stop anything from going into the primary

    Thanks Gingy-Got the softail 2 days ago and picked up my kit today from HD. Looks pretty straight forward. The OEM kit is pricey as you said- $575, too many bad reviews on the aftermarket kits for me to go that route . Is there not a hole on the internal side of that primary casing where the selector rod was poked through? Will that hit cause dirt to build up inside the casing or was the rod hole a tube which is sealed off from the inside of the casing?

    • @TheGingybeardMan
      @TheGingybeardMan  2 роки тому

      No sir, inside that hole sits a steel insert which runs through to the otherside of the primary. This prevents any dirt from going into the primary housing. The small cap provided with the forward control kit is only for aesthetic purposes to cover the hole on the outside of the primary.

    Nice work, man. I also have forward controls and a saddleman step up seat on my FXBB. I am 5'8", and after an hour of riding my back starts to hurt because of the position of my stock bars. My question is, do you feel like the Bung King risers place the bars closer or further away from you? I know they make a pullback version of those risers, but I am wondering what your thoughts are?

    • @TheGingybeardMan
      @TheGingybeardMan  4 роки тому +1

      It's hard to say if the bung king risers have as much pullback as the stock bars, because the position of the stock bars are set by your dealership upon unboxing. The stock bars can be moved backwards and forwards so in theory our bars could have different positioning on purchase.
      I will say however the bung king risers and Cr high bend bars give a height increase of 2 inches so I now sit more upright, which is better for my back on long rides. I noticed when I changed to my whiplash slipstream seat from the saddleman seat I have to reach forward more for the bars as the slipstream seat sits me back further.
      Hope this helps.

    • @abefroeman100
      @abefroeman100 4 роки тому

      @@TheGingybeardMan True, I could adjust the stock bars, but I try to keep them inline with the forks. Good point about them being higher than stock, which causes you to sit up a little more. I'll probably go with a 10 inch riser, 1 inch pull back.

    Is there a specific tool kit you'd reccomend getting to do this? I am going to install the forward controls, a fairing, saddlebags and im just curious if theres a kit that will have all the tools I need to get this all done. 2018 street bob*

    • @TheGingybeardMan
      @TheGingybeardMan  4 роки тому

      Hey mate there is no particular kit that I can recommend. I have a pretty extensive tool kit myself which cost over $1800 and includes everything I need to enable me to do all jobs. Everything from wrenches, screwdrivers, hex sockets, torx sockets, soldering iron, pliers you name it. I've used all these tools on my bike at one time or another.
      For the jobs you want to do I'd say purchase a standard 40 set of sockets which includes both imperial/metric bits, purchase a torx socket set and hex socket set, also a decent set of wrenches including both metric and /imperial wrenches. With the use of my ratchets for the sockets I also used extensions to help with the hard to reach places and to assist with leverage on particularly tight bolts which have loctight on them.
      Mates it's very hard to list the exact tools and sizes of sockets I've used as I have everything needed and can't remember exactly as I did the mods a while ago now.
      If you do purchase some tools make sure you're confident with using them as I'd hate for you to damage your bike mate 👍
