I'm 6'2". I put forward controls on a 750 Shadow. It was cool, except on long rides when I only had the one position of forward foot pegs. My lower legs and ankles can never fully relax on any pegs. Later I wanted to add an engine guard. So, while installing the engine guard, I saw forward controls aren't compatible because they can't both share the bolt-on attachment point. I got mini-floorboards and went back to the stock mid controls, and folding foot pegs onto the highway bars. I like this setup more, because the mini floorboards are a lot more comfortable than foot pegs ( my lower legs can relax). And I can extend my legs to the forward pegs while cruising to stretch out and change position. The best thing is, I now have 2 comfortable leg positions. Which helps a lot on those longer rides. ✌️
That's awesome, man! Finding a more comfortable setup is crucial for those long rides. Switching to mini-floorboards and going back to the stock mid controls with folding foot pegs on the highway bars sounds like a smart move. Having two positions to chose from is WAYYY better than one. I appreciate the comment - it might help others looking for better comfort on their bikes. Keep riding safe and enjoying those adventures!
I'm 6'1" and I've been wanting forward controls on my 1995 Magna since I got it. I do however have highway bars with foot pegs on them. My usual riding position is on the highway pegs. Unless I'm where I have to use the shifter frequently. Then my left foot is on the stock peg and my left foot is on the highway peg, most of the time. Would you suggest I keep this setup over getting the forward controls ?
I really want this bike but with a shaft drive, great video of course and I am a huge fan of forward controls. They just feel better on rides over 30 mins and in the corners at speed I prefer to push with my legs there, it just feels better cant really describe it.
been thinking about this for a long time! On both my 87 and 97 I am pretty cramped with longer than normal legs. I am trying a seat adjustment first though as I found a cheap way to make the seat taller.
I've been trying to find a video like this that actually shows seating position and gives input on what the ride feels like. Six feet tall, bad knees, and stock magna controls isn't a match made in heaven. Those pipes sound great btw
Those 90's Magnas are sweet. I've had a chance to ride one. If I'm shopping for a bike again, I'd consider buying one of those. They've been discontinued about 20 years now, so there's that. But it's a nice bike anyway.
Luckily there are a lot of good examples out there, usually for under or around $3k. I think people are so scared of the complicated carb assembly that they shy away from them, but they aren’t crazy hard to work on
Great Informative video Tyler. The guy in the forum had to be 🤡 ... I have size 13 shoe/ boot and I have my 99 Magna up to 130mph once. Even then no issue with feet being pushed from controls. But I will add, that with heel of boot resting on top of foot peg. ⚠️ At high than normal speeds well above 70mph there is definitely some force pushing the foot.🤯 Leaning toe of rested boot out words, will infact throw your foot off of forward controls. 🚳Curious rookie error, one time. But should've I had been more Experience rather than being curious. I would have known as long as I keep my toes pointed in. I'll be just fine.☯️ So maybe I'm a 🤡 too...With forward controls on the magna I've never had any issues with controlling the bike even at higher than normal speeds. All you Magna owners feel me. So thank you Tyler for putting your video up.
People who say you have no control have not had forward controls. Your feet are further words the stering tire 🙄 it is a must on a bobber because your seat is lower
Thank you for doing the video. I'm about the same height as you. I was thinking of getting either mid/forward control pegs for my 81 Yamaha xs400 that I rebuilt. I think I will get them
The front fair looks real nice. I have owned my 99 magna for 3 years now. So yes still a newbie, lol. It came with a few after market items installed. One being a windshield, absolutely hated the look with it. So once home, after a 60 mile ride. I removed it, only to reinstall it. Afte 1 ride, I could believe the comfort difference that it made. Now grown to just look past the awfulness of look, only to Read the reward. So after seeing a magna with a better looking lower profile of fairing. Now just curious how much wind deflection doest it provide for the rider? I I understand it wouldn't be as great as tge full wind screen. But I'm 6'1" 210lbs Arborist so I can handle some wind force. Also My Magna As I am the second owner, the first owner installed forward controls. So I've never rowed the Magna without forward controls. So I've never known the fill of riding the magna with stock control. Lucky me, lol.
@@chadgray6672 I’m about your height, but my seat sits me a bit lower than stock so my head is probably lower relative to the fairing. I get wind from the bottom of my neck up, pretty just takes the wind off of my chest. If wind blocking is a dealbreaker for you, a bullet style fairing like this isn’t going to do nearly as much as one of the “ugly” windshields
The seat is a Corbin that I found on Craigslist for $50. I think Corbin may still make a seat for the bike but not this exact one. Well worth it though
Motion Pro will sell you custom cables, you tell them the bike and the lengths you need and they make them custom. Haven’t been able to find a pre-made extended kit
Yep, those middle controls on cruisers suck for long leg riders. The original position had you in a toilet stance, this set-up has much better knee angle for you 👌
I don't see how forward foot pegs would make you lose control over bike, when you only steer with handlebars 😁 Whoever says different, doesn't know what countersteering is 😆

The guy in the forum complaining about the wind blowing his shoes off the pegs, might literally be a clown 😂
My thought exactly
I never had the wind blow my feet off of forward pegs. But maybe I wasn't riding fast enough.

Exactly what ill do too..
Thanks for the great input and advice..

After watching this vid, I'm going to make forward controls for my shadow!
Thanks for the honest opinion!

I'm about to put 4" on my shadow. They look great. I'm worried I'm to short at 5,10 but will see. Liked the video
Follow up?

Where did you get the front fairing

I'm in the process of putting forward controls on my Virago. It's from Amazon and the directions are in Chinese, but I'm figuring it out.

I have been thinking of getting Mids to replace the Forwards i just cannot get used to.. Went on a small trip and was begging for mids by the end..
I just put forward controls on my magna as well.. it definitely has ups and downs. and yes that pin was a giant pain trying to get out XD
The slowing down part for lights and stop signs
I didn't know they made good looking Magna's!
Hi, friend! How about the forward controls in the curves with the passing of the km? Thanks for the information
I have no problems with them at all! Lean angle is around the same as the stock position. Worthy upgrade, especially if you’re on the taller side.
looks greart! i painted my magna pearl grey. im triying to decide with a faring that looks good on it . any recomendations ?
I was lucky enough to find an original Honda fairing from the “deluxe” model magna. It’s amazing, but apparently hard to find..
If you can find a Targa Fairing, I think it not only looks better than the Honda fairing on the Magna, but the amount of wind protection is greater.

Can you tell me the brand of that seat? Did you put that on? I've been looking for something like that for my 1998 Magna.
The seat is a Corbin that I found on Craigslist for $50. I think Corbin may still make a seat for the bike but not this exact one. Well worth it though
I’m nervous about forward controls on the new Indian, I’m 5’6”
Nice bike man, really nice
Thanks!
Just ordered a set for my Xv750
Awesome, let me know if you like them!
Great video man!
Where did you get the saddle bags?
Where did you get that front fairing been looking for something like that?
They are Honda OEM parts from the Magna Deluxe (VF750CD). I found one on craigslist by chance, apparently they are getting harder to find
I found the forward controls put to much pressure on my lower back
Could we get a link to these please?

Did you get longer cables? If so what did you get bc i put 12 in bars and need lomger cables.
Motion Pro will sell you custom cables, you tell them the bike and the lengths you need and they make them custom. Haven’t been able to find a pre-made extended kit
Yo mate, what are those pipes? Thx in advance :D
I’m 90% sure they’re one-offs, I got them from an order man on Craigslist 😂
@@TylerChaseMotors Ya i tough the same that's why i ask, they sound sick tbh
1983, first magna
Does that Short Shield Work 🤺🦅
Not really 🤣
But it looks cool 🤙🏻
Does it work on um renegade classic?
Yep, those middle controls on cruisers suck for long leg riders. The original position had you in a toilet stance, this set-up has much better knee angle for you 👌

cap on gaining more control or you’ve never squeezed the tank 😂

You’re 100% right

Those pipes sound great btw
