    400 Billion Star Systems. Infinite Freedom. Blaze Your Own Trail
    In the year 3300, across the vast expanse of an epic, full-scale recreation of our Milky Way, interstellar rivalries flare as galactic superpowers fight proxy wars.
    Some may know you as an ally; others will call you a pirate, a bounty hunter, a smuggler, an explorer, an assassin, a hero... Fly alone or with friends, fight for a cause or go it alone; your actions change the galaxy around you in an ever unfolding story.
    Elite: Dangerous is the latest installment of the seminal open-world, go-anywhere, do anything space game which, since the first game launched in 1984 has spawned and inspired a long tradition of open world and space games.
    But it started with Elite by Ian Bell and David Braben - one of the most successful games of all times. In the 1990s, David Braben created the sequels Frontier: Elite II and Frontier: First Encounters (Elite III), which were famous for introducing realistic 1:1 scale, dynamic star systems and seamless freeform landings on 1:1 scale planets.

    This video remains useful still. Great job.
    Every explorer should consider:
    * reducing weight to increase jump range;
    * reducing heat generation to decrease detection rate and range (with an Asp, you can get it easily bellow 20%);
    * increasing the fuel scoop to the max size, during long trips, )fueling and jumping are the 2 activities that take most of the time);
    * I've even reduced the engine size, if I do get interdicted, running away is not an option, staying cool will make you harder to detect which is better when you return;
    * having an auto-repair module (repairing those broken parts is necessary to keep you safe during long exploration runs)
    6 months away from civilisation and with ship integrity at 95%, I'm still hanging on. If I head back now, I'll be back at my homebase by the end of the year. These tips keep you alive for that long.

      A year has passed. What are the results of your trip?

    • @kampanomad1870
      @kampanomad1870 7 років тому +1

      One thing I have heard is that pips into the system capacitor will increase your engines heat efficiency...I bought the best distributor and reactor core and it seems my ship runs extremely cool and the heat generated by fuel scooping increases slower. I have a horrible fuel scoop but havent had to use any heat sinks. I am not sure if its one thing that has attributed this or all of them...but I usually keep all pips up on system and can run 15 to 20 courier/salvage missions with the cheap cargo ship holding 16 tons and just return all the missions to the 1 station I got them from without any problems aside from black box missions and npc's.

    • @jaredmowens
      @jaredmowens 4 роки тому +1

      If you're that far out, who would ever interdict you?

    • @g0lanu
      @g0lanu 4 роки тому +1

      @@jaredmowens Back then, when I returned from exploration trips with data worth more dredits than my current assets, I usually got interdicted by NPCs at the very least and if a human did it, it would have been game over. The NPC ships were optimized for combat, so they had good engines or they were more agile then you, you couldn't run away in normal spacetime, you had to jump to hyperspace or another systems ASAP. Today you can even optimize for reducing cooldown timers.

    • @g0lanu
      @g0lanu 4 роки тому +3

      @@MrTryAnotherOne YT didn't notify me of your reply... it was quite interesting, actually. I started contemplating suiciding several weeks after writting that comment, just so that I would skip the trip back. This experience made me understand how it would feel to be so far away from any other human being IRL and how difficult the loneliness would be in of itself.
      After writting that comment, I had at least another close call by jumping between two stars that were too close to each other and overheating, taking damage that could have been avoided. It was harder to stay focused as I was getting really bored, at the same time, these events were quite intense as I didn't wanted to lose all my progress.
      The frustration and the boredom almost made me do a silly thing, but I eventually decided to speed run my way back, to go straight instead of my planned route, cutting down the trip back to aproximately 1 month. Got interdicted on my way back by an NPC, the ship was barely holding before I docked at the nearest station instead of my homebase. Took me several hours just to sell all the data. But I'm kind of glad that I didn't give up...

    Being away from colonized space scares me for some reason, even though it's probably safer than the civil-war ridden systems that I currently frequent. I don't know what it is, but being out that far is just unsettling.

      Starwall that’s the point in exploring. Exploring in my opinion is the only thing where you’re not doing it for credits but you are doing it for the experience and all of the strange things you will find and apart of that experience is knowing that you are light years away from humanity where no one else can help you.

    Thank you so much for this video! Today I started my very first adventure outside of the bubble, I'm 4 weeks into the game and absolutely loving it. I just closed the game with my ship at the very edge of the bubble, ready to part tomorrow. I've hardened my Cobra MK III as much as I could, and because I still can't afford the advanced scanner I'm planning to go out into the void for one or two hundred LY which should be enough for a first incursion. I even got to make a bit of data collection on the way to the edge, some 120 000 cr in around 40 LY, so I think this will also be profitable for me! :)
    Again, thanks for the tutorial and keep it up, Commander! o7

    I just got the game on sale great fun but for some reason people don't explain that its really easy to avoid combat and live on the cheap in a sidewinder just do this thing called data boom missions , grab multiple data boom missions to the same destination and then cash it all in grab a A rated frameshift drive remove your weapons and suddenly you have a cheap long range ship get D rated everything else get A rated thrusters too and suddenly you have a sidewinder build that can haul like a starter hauler and turn like a starter eagle all in one ship drop the cargo rack put in a 2C fuel tank and your ready for multiple courier missions getting exploration money from Data Boom trade routes.

    I'm currently saving up for an ASP which I'd like to kit out to take on some exploring. I'm on 3 million CR saved at the moment. But I've also seen a guide online recommending a kitted out Hauler as a cheaper alternative... Since I'm still kinda new to the game (picked it up a couple weeks ago) that might be the better, less risky choice for me... so am still deciding which to go for. This guide has been very informative and got me even more excited about setting out on an adventure. Thanks!

    Nice video! I wish I had thought of checking UA-cam for things like this, just started sweeping entire systems not knowing the use of the sysmap.
    But kept at it, learned and now it's just 75% to the crowning achievement, exploration Elite.
    And trying to get as many new (and old) CMDRs to hook up a scanner and just give it a try, throw a few giants or other non-main-sequencers their way as a hook, whatever it takes :P
    Keep up the good work, cheers!

    My (extremely limited) experience with exploration taught me the hard way that getting my ship destroyed costs me all of my scanned data. Seeing as how that data is the main source of an explorer's income, this is yet another reason it would really suck if your canopy ever managed to get breached.

    One point to add to your video and one question. When looking at the system map you can get an idea how large the system is by scrolling to the right. When it stops, you know you've reached the end. If it keeps going more than just a hair past the last body, you know you have more objects to find. Useful if you have the basic or intermediate scanner, not so much for the advanced since it just finds everything for you. The basic and intermediate add quite a bit of challenge. Pretty satisfying finding something you can't see on a system map and have no idea where it is. Question, what do you take into consideration when deciding whether to come back to civilization or keep going?

    +Calmer ThanTheDude I can't reply to your comment directly due to your Google+ settings. About those stars, the discovered or undiscovered status of a star doesn't actually show up on a map. However there are hundreds of billions of stars in the game, to find your own one, you just need to move away from civilized space a small bit. You should find one without much problem.

    Nice guide, but here is a pro tip for you ladies and gents. You do not need a heat sink launcher for when you come out of FSD at suns. If you quite simply press X ( Default speed set to 0 ) as your FSD counts down to begin a jump, you will come out of the jump and slow down instantly and will never be put in range of the sun to over heat your ship. Thus take 0 damage or crash into suns. your speed will be 30KM/s and you will be moving very slowly.

    • @ObsidianAnt

      Wackfoolz Thanks. Totally spot on Wackfoolz! Heat Sinks are only needed for people like me that aren't always paying 100% attention to the game 100% of the time. I've got a little too close to a star more than one, more often than not merely from admiring it.

    To find systems worth exploring within the bubble, look for systems with no purchasable map data.
    Another recommended system is an internal, or second, fuel tank.
    Also do not scan asteroid clusters for money, they have no value.

    2: How can you make money while exploring?

    • @kilrdude14
      @kilrdude14 8 років тому

      To answer your questions:
      1: Not necessarily. If you are the first person to discover a planet/star, you'll have your name put by it stating you were the first one to discover it. You can't directly name the body, though.
      2: You can make money by selling your scan data. So when you've gone to a system and scanned it, you can sell the data at any station further than 20LY away from said system.
      Hope this helps :)

    Im gonna watch the rest of this video after class, but im a newb- less than 11 hours in. I have discovered a few things so far, namely that fuel scoops work and also that discovery scanners appear to be an entirely passive module? Maybe im still learning, but I hyper-cruise close enough to a "unexplored" wait a few seconds and the ship discovers it automatically?

    What can you come across when exploring? can you happen upon something new, different or surprising or is it just these solar systems over and over littered with asteroids and a couple planets and stars with nothing to do on them? does anything happen to new planets or systems you discover? any random encounters, happenings or finds? do things get built there if they're decent spots? anything to make it worth while beyond a few credits? i really want this game but it just looks like it's empty static solar systems besides the few that are populated with space stations.

    • @ObsidianAnt
      @ObsidianAnt  9 років тому +3

      Ben Williams It's pretty much just empty solar systems at the moment, with nothing else happening out there. Only "surprises" are the configuration of planets, moons and nebula you sometimes find. Other stuff should be coming in the future, but there are no details or timeline for it.

      ObsidianAnt That's such a shame it has such good potential with all it's areas you can be genuinely the first person to come across. I've been playing ED for just under a month now and I finally just bought my Asp Explorer tonight! (went from Sidewinder to Hauler to Type 6 for 3 weeks on mining and boom deliveries) My AspEx is currently sitting in the Graesle Dock at Nanomam at the moment getting a wax job and some retrofit deerskin upholstery. Anyway, yours is the first video I have watched on exploration and I can't wait to get out there and start exploring! This video was very useful in pointing out an optimized fit. Thank you!
    I only play in Solo mode as I only have a mouse and the slow pitch of any ship makes me disgusted with combat, plus I really was drawn to ED more for exploration. 2 years of Eve online got me fed up with the equipment race involved in PvP.
    My only question is: Does playing in Solo mode have any detrimental effect on exploration? (I'm still noobish)

      I fly towards the ring, and slow down to under 1000m/s (you can probably go a bit faster, but I don't like to risk it)...then just keep flying until you "crash" into the ring. You will get dropped out of warp inside the ring, and as long as you were not going too fast, you won't take damage.

    I am interested in doing some exploring myself. So far I've reached Scout status just by traveling distances in inhabited space of a few hundred light years. What I wonder about, though is how much time you spend in super cruise mode getting around to all the astronomical elements in a new system. Some planets and stars inside a system take forever to reach. How do you deal with that?

    • @dexdion1678
      @dexdion1678 9 років тому

      FD have said that they will not allow you to just swap ships at any time at will. They want to keep a semblance of authenticity when it comes to things like that and I can very much appreciate that. natewebb I run rares about 160 light years so I have to either refuel along the way or use a fuel scoop to make it all the way. I use a Cobra Mk 3 now and make about 500k a run in 12 jumps using 56 cargo and a fuel scoop.
