    Update 3-23-24 The 1.7.6 Firmware update on the Anker Solix F3800 power station now allows Dual Ac/Dc charging at the same time and keeps both Dc ports active after 90% state of charge now! Amazing!!!

      @JeremiahMcintosh -> I assume that dual charging still does not solve the issue of being able to energize the 240V outlets and the right 120V bank, because the inverter used for the left bank is still being used to charge the batteries and as a UPS passthrough, hence only 1 available inverter left cannot deliver both 120V legs for the the 240V outlets, right?
      Also, what does it mean -> the 1.7.6 firmware now keeps both DC ports active after 90% SOC? Are you saying that the F3800 used to now allow DC charging to top up the battery bank after it reaches 90% SOC before, but now it will continue to draw from both DC ports to keep the battery topped off to 100%?

      @@PhongNguyen-ov7jqI am very curious about this. It's a deal breaker for me if I can't use the 240v output and the 120v input at the same time.

      My comment seems to have disappeared 😕. Are you saying with the new update you can or can not input 120v with a generator while also outputting 240v? I need this feature.

    • @JeremiahMcintosh
      @JeremiahMcintosh  3 місяці тому

      You can charge the unit with Ac while using 3 of the 120 V AC outlet ports at the same time but cannot use the 240 V output. You can however, use all the outputs including 240 V while charging from DC or solar panels.

    I am researching these portable power units now . The only troubling part of this video was the 80% of rated capacity . The average use of these type of power stations is 85% .. I’ve seen up to as high as 89-90% efficiency on a portable station as well . Although it was only on 1 power station out of the dozen or so i have researched .
    Right now the costs on these are still too high . I will wait for Black Friday and cyber Monday to check out the deals then

    • @JeremiahMcintosh
      @JeremiahMcintosh  Місяць тому

      The efficiency is really going to depend on your load. With the Dual high output inverters in this unit you don’t get good efficiency running a small load. You will get better efficiency running large loads because the inverters themselves around 75 W per hour just to be on., But they are great for running large loads especially 240 V or running small loads while you have solar connected to it.

    High frequency inverters like this might be able to power high inductance loads like your minisplit when it's new, but everytime you do, you're shortening the life of the MOSFETs in the H-Bridge circuit in the inverter which can lead to a shorter life expectancy of your solar generator. If you want to power inductance loads without damaging your inverter, then you need to buy a low frequency, transformer based solar generator.

    Very nice. 3 questions. Saw you did have the expansion unit on top late in the video (around the 17 minute mark). Did you not have it connected? 2, how did you simulate the 2 solar inputs? What were those devices? And 3, do you think you could take the expansion pack to another location and charge it up? Thinking if there was a power outage I could run an expansion pack to the office and charge it up if outage was longer than I had backup power available.

    • @JeremiahMcintosh
      @JeremiahMcintosh  8 місяців тому +1

      I had 12 V plugged into each port on the Anker to simulate solar from the 12v dc ports on two other small solar generators to simulate the input.
      Yes, I did have the expansion battery However I could not get it to charge or discharge. They are supposed to be sending me a replacement soon but no, it cannot be charged separately. You have to charge it from the main unit. It would’ve been nice to see some sort of solar input port on the expansion battery.

    Can you please dumb something down for me ?
    I am planning on a F3800 and a Home Power Panel but at some point an outage will exceed the battery capacity. I have a Westinghouse 9500 generator (120 & 240 output available - but not an inverter), I have no solar.
    How and where do I connect the generator to charge up the F3800 batteries ?
    Thanks !

    • @JeremiahMcintosh
      @JeremiahMcintosh  Місяць тому

      Is your Westinghouse an inverter generator? I would only charge with an inverter generator.
      I don’t have the home power panel so I’m not sure if you connected your generator to you home if it would recharge it directly but with the F3800 the way I have it connected you would have to run a cord directly to it and charge it like normal. When you do this tho you can not use the 240v outlet port.
      The way I plan on using mine in an outage is I will run the unit until it is drained down then I will unplug it and plug my inverter generator into my home and then when my home is running off the gas generator, I will recharge the power station from my home at a slower rate. Once it gets full, I will turn off the generator and plug the power station back in and keep doing that until power is restored. It’s a little more work, but at least you don’t have to run the gas generator nonstop.

      While i really like these portable power stations and i will be investing in 1 myself eventually . Portable so i can use camping as well . I cannot stand gas generators and hauling any fuel in my vehicle . Never happen . I will also never bring and use a gas generator for camping . Never . In your case you will come out well ahead money wise using your gas generator . To run 2300 watts nonstop with solar would require a lot of money for energy storage and a lot of money in solar panels to keep your portable power charged up .
      To give you an idea . This power station in this video might run 2300 watts nonstop for 1.2 - 1.3 hours considering the 80% efficiency shown . And this unit on sale is around $2700 . That does not even include any solar panels . You would need at least 2 large expansion battery packs ($2000 each). So yeah . A LOT of money
      This is why it’s not practical for a lot of people . Will be great for camping and occasional 8 hour power outage at ones house though. Which is all i will use mine for .

      With one expansion battery you might get about 2.5-3hrs at 2300w continuous discharge. It would work great with your gas generator so I would not have to run the entire time.

    could you, in theory, setup a transfer switch that runs off of this solar geneartor. and leave the generator plugged into utility power (one of the non-transfer switch breakers) at all times. that way utility keeps the generator charged up, and the generator keeps the transfer switch breakers running at all times. then if you lose utility power, everything on the transfer switch remain on with no downtime since they're already running off the generator?

    yeah these things are cool, especially the Ecoflow Ultra, but in reality you need a gas, diesel, or propane generator for any long term needs...more than a day a two. Get a dual fuel, run it on propane, and you won't have the problem of gas sitting for a long time. Imagine, you buy a predator, Westinghouse, or champion 12500 dual fuel for 1500 max. Done. These power stations are just a shiny object. Good for Van Life, I own two Ecoflows, but they are not serious for home backup.

But if we’re out of power for longer than a few hours, let’s say a couple of weeks, would this work or would we need to buy something more? Does the unit charge itself? Or do we need to purchase a separate battery for that? It would be nice if you could do an info video on everything we need to know, for dummies. 😊 Thanks so much for the video!

    • @JeremiahMcintosh

      Thank you! How long it will last depends on what size load you’re pulling from it and how many expansion batteries you have added to it , you can add up to six.
      In an extended outage, you can charge it up with solar if you had solar panels, while still outputting power or you can recharge it with a portable generator in a pinch or if it’s cloudy out. If charging it with a gas generator, I would recommend using an inverter generator so that it produces clean output just keep in mind it cannot output, 240 V at the same time while charging with a generator only when charging with solar.

    What are your thoughts on the 60V limit for the solar inputs? What is the recommended solar setup to achieve 2,400 watts of input? Is this something that Anker could address via a software update?

    • @JeremiahMcintosh
      @JeremiahMcintosh  7 місяців тому

      It would have been nice to have a higher voltage input and this probably isn’t something that can be increased with a software update because it’s probably a hardware limitation but it is nice that it has dual inputs.
      It would probably be hard to get the full 2400w input. Ideally you want to get close to the 60V input limit without going over and then run those groups in parallel to get up to the 25amp.
      Would you be looking for folding panels or solid glass panels?

    Nice video and eval as always Jeremiah! I question the initial cost and ROI compared with other systems, seems a bit high, although it is a nice looking all in one unit. It would be nice if they had an auto transfer switch option, to make the switch to battery seamless. As most main power loses (at least in the area I live) are relatively short lived, an ATS would be a nice addition. This would enable no power noticeable power loss, and the time necessary to hook up and start a fossil fueled generator for long term power.
