I fished it good few years ago but it was the days when didn't know much about salmon fishing, water level etc. Fished in the park wich was free stretch from what people told me but I want to go back to the river some day. That place what you fishing looks like nice stretch. Good film by the way.
Reminds me of of my days on my local smaller rivers hard to net a fish like that always tried to get them upstream of the net and let it fall back into the net.
@@stephensmyth9730one of the key differences is your catching fish. Keep at it, it will get better, I promise you, look at some of my early videos. Tightlines
Nice video and great control of the fish in what looks like heavy current. Lovely water, can it be fished with IFI state licence or do you need NI licence?
Thanks Stephen it was a tough battle with the second fish. The water was big that day and went up again about 6 “ about half an hour after that and was out of order til the following day!! To fish the Roe you need a Loughs Agency license.
@@stephensmyth9730 cheers for that, I'm from Dublin but have holiday home in Donegal. Drive via Strabane and the rivers around there look impressive. Hope to get on it one day
Suppose it depends partly on personal choice and how well you can cast. I use to mainly use a 13’ double hander with maybe an 8 or 9 # line and maybe a 10’ single handed trout rod with a 7# line for low water and sea trout. Now mostly use a 11’6” switch rod with a 7# scandi line with a short head. You can fish it double or single handed. It covers most situations although I wouldn’t want to hook a big fresh fish in heavy water on this rod! No need for a big rod as the Roe is not a wide river.
Yes Simon the netting was quite tricky as the water was high that day. First fish was a size 6 Bann special and the second took a size 8 green butt cascade.
Ah,yes it looked tricky in that current. Bann Special is one of the very attractive and useful Irish Shrimp patterns I understand .I enjoy tying them and have had results with Faughan Shrimp
Great to see you have water and fish coming to the fly ,👍

Thanks Tomascz glad you enjoyed it. Still a bit of an amateur yet!

Yeah totally agree. It was hard to get below that fish because of both awkward wading and the river was running quite high too.
Super Video, thank you!! It es perfect to see the take
Thank you Manfred. Yes good to see the take. Can take a lot of recordings sometimes before you capture a take on camera!
@@stephensmyth9730 i know it, i fish the river moy in ireland

Thanks Aidan. Long way off the standard of your videos!

Yes plenty of options in the foyle system and Donegal!
What part of the river is it you are fishing look nice thanks
Alan it’s a stretch of the river between Carrick and Burnfoot
Two cracking fish, not the easiest job to fly in that river either… Well done
Thanks Stiofan. Yeah the pool I hooked the second fish is pretty tough wading and the banks are quite overgrown!
What would be the best size/weight salmon rod for the Roe?
