Very good advice. A good stable substrate that holds the PH is the basis for shrimp breeding. Everything else is an accessory to help us and make our hobby more fun.
I've learned stability is key, I adapted my neos to live in 850ppm, ~10gh ~4dkh 7.5-8ish ph. I had some issues early on, but once I started dosing prime/safe with any additive(like nutrients or some of my heavier bacteria) I don't know if some of those bacteria contain nitrogen from dieoff or what, but that's been keeping me going for almost 3 months now? Nice man I got 3 tanks right now, and just red galaxy fishbones. Their breeding goes fine. Had a few losses. But it’s stable again. Thinking about adding a new caridina.. not sure yet though!
Absolutely lovely video Shrimp Mania, thank you! I have been meaning to ask you, I have been breeding caridina shrimps for 5 years now with its natural up and downs. I saw a video by shrimp time on the most important factors on molting and what causes molts to go wrong. I have experienced molting problems for a long time and after a few years of having to learn that I was overfeeding, ammonia spikes because of thick soils and experimenting with different levels of kH and gH for crystal reds, I think I learned a lot. However, I do still see molting issues especially among adult shrimps, never on baby/younger shrimps in my tanks from time to time. Perhaps with your experience you have encountered this as well and could give an indication on what could be wrong and how you help your shrimps molt well. I would love a video about it!
I had some molting issues before but it only happened in some of my tanks and because all my tanks were setup almost identical with the same water parameters, I can only think of bad genetics. It also happens when your shrimp is not ready to molt but is forced to molt by changing water temperature or parameters very quickly
@@ShrimpMania Thank you! I did notice previously that it would occur after water changes. That's why I changed it to only adding RO water when evaporation occurs and I do maximum water changes of 10% only with pure RO and the salts I slowly add later over the week to do it more like VIN. I find it triggers molting much less for now, although I have to be careful with the amount of salt I add per time. For now a 1-2 ppm change max per time seems good without die off. Perhaps bad genetics as well, I might try mixing some shrimp for different people. Previously I would only buy about 20 to start from one seller. Would you recommend a certain amount of generations after which you have to introduce new genetics into your population? As for now I only know the short carapace as a sign of inbreeding
I just has set up a new tank 2 weeks ago. I use 350g benibachi mix with 150g boom x2 soil. My tank size is 433. The PH is really low about 4.5 by liquid test kit. Does PH affect winred shrimps ? Should i add mosura soil to adjust PH or put some soil out of the tank. Thank for your advice

When adding RO water for a water change, will the ph difference effect the shrimp? Because it might be slightly different from the tank because of active substrate etc.
My non filtered tap water is ~ 150 tds, when filtered it can reach to 80 tds no issues. Is this usable for caridina shrimp? or is it safe to just go more expensive with R/O and salts. I never used tap water for caridina only for neos. My tap water is liquid rock. You can try to test your water for kh, gh, ph and see if it suitable for caridinas. simple answer if your water has som kh it won't work.

Yes sometimes females can have a break for a month or two it's normal. They not get berried every single molt they can skip some time. It can depend on how many babies already in the tank and to maximise your breeding activity its better to move the babies to different tank that's what most of the breeders do
