HaHa! I was thinking the same thing, then he said “make sure you turn the switch to the off position” I thought that was funny and their wasn’t a light fixture in yet, but that wire was hot! 😂
No big leaving it hot, just got to mind the wires and your fingers. For a home owner, flipping the breaker is definitely not a bad idea, but I have done lots of hot swap switches or plugs. In some commercial buildings finding or accessing the panel is not worth the time versus the 3 minutes it takes to swap out a switch or plug. Time is money.
Don't bother cutting the power to the box before starting installation.
