Liked how when the hearse was leaving, Linda, Emily, Mr Swindley and Florrie all came out to pay their respects. Expected to see Ena, Minnie and Martha next...
Episode 2, near the start, a brilliant scene with two great actresses - Anne Reid (Val) and Christine Hargreaves (Christine). Christine (the actress) died in her 40s, she was once married to bass player and artist Klaus Voorman who was very close to the Beatles and designed the Revolver album cover.
Showing that you actually don't need to even show the accident to create the drama, I actually got a cold shiver when the policeman walks into the Rovers and the closing music starts!
I know I have said it before Aunty Corrie but being able to see these episodes just makes me so pleased. Now I understand how VAL and Ken got together, how Dennis Tanner first met Rita, and Jed Stone and Minnie Became friends....I’m guessing the Jed Stone who was in the Carla and Tony story line is the same actor?.. Also Concepta was she in the Royle Family?.....
When did he come back? Must’ve been pretty recently, for Carla to be involved ( take it you mean Carla Connor). Was it around when Dennis came back and ended up marrying Rita?
OK so that confirms when I saw Kenneth Cope on the street around 2010/11, I was wandering if it was the same character.. what's his connection to Carla?
The end of episode one, when Alf and the policeman went into the Rovers-and you could just tell Len, Harry, Annie, Jack, Concepta and everyone knew what had happened. 😥😥😥
It is haunting seeing Ida's lovely cared for things there and seeing the reaction of the bus driver and of the Barlow's. Almost just as bad as seeing it portrayed and probably more realistic.
Well, now we know where Ken got his blonde hair from. Frank and Ida were dark ( I think) but Nancy Leathers ( his gran) was probably blonde ( only ever saw her in black and white, but she looks it!)
Well Alf wasn't a stranger to bad news so it was quite appropriate for him there to hear pc plod bluntly tell him Mrs Barlows dead, Alf always seemed to be arranging funerals, calling the undertaker etc
Imagine leaving a baby in a pram outside these days? Imagine just a pram! Now kids aren’t even allowed to walk to school when they are 8 years old! Not everything changes for the better!
Michele Alexander I felt the same way Michele .Frank is a boring caricature .These police officers were a bit slack ,the desk Sargent didn’t even look in her shopping bag until much latter, I would have looked to see if she had ID in it . He didn’t connect the two . If you ask me his brain is not connected right either .
Where did the Barlows live? Thought at first it was no 5 ( where Chesney, Gemma and the quads now live) with the arched fireplace, but that was where Esther Hayes lived at this point!
I am surprised how long it took the police to deal with the road accident, the headquarters sergeant said Tile Street sent out the telex at 19.30, but it was after 21.00 when the constable phoned Tile Street to confirm Ida was dead. The headquarters sergeant still didn't know she was dead at that point, so I am assuming Tile Street would have sent another telex?
Certain religion name their daughters Concepta, do they name sons Not Likely! I rmbr funerals in 50s 60s when funeral car passed pedestrians they would stop walking & take their caps off & bow their head in respect till all the black cars passed (back then most men wore caps & most cars were black! You could stand quite a while! Sometimes you still see this occurring.
Had to think who you meant for a minute- it was Ray Hilton, who married Jessie Shadwick and had a mother called Kitty, played by Jean Haywood. Now there was a character!!
Can’t remember what episode it was but that one guy introduced his friend to some cop. The guy wanted to rob a store full of cigarettes. What ever happened to that situation?
Sgt Plod "hang on I've got a shopping bag here, oh & a red white socks, Hmmm I wonder, same contents Hmmm.." no wonder Madchester crime is so high! Missing eps jumps you fwd, married divorced & 3 kids & cruise ship Costa Concordia takes wrong turn into canal & blocks it causing tailback of 3 canal boats & a swan & 10 chicks..
Love Jack Walker he was a real pillar of the street he was always fair and kind to all mind he had a hell of a life with annie!
Hell of a life with Annie is right!
Yep, she was a terrible bully to poor Jack at times.
Liked how when the hearse was leaving, Linda, Emily, Mr Swindley and Florrie all came out to pay their respects. Expected to see Ena, Minnie and Martha next...

Christine (the actress) died in her 40s, she was once married to bass player and artist Klaus Voorman who was very close to the Beatles and designed the Revolver album cover.
Christine Hargreaves passed away in 1984 at the age of 45 from a brain tumour .. Funny her mother on Corrie died from a brain tumour on the show.
@@gaynorpatterson2915 Hi, sorry, I got the date wrong! Am I right about Klaus though?
LOVE these episodes love the characters - real, and likable - loved Ida - very sad.
Showing that you actually don't need to even show the accident to create the drama, I actually got a cold shiver when the policeman walks into the Rovers and the closing music starts!
And the tiny, almost imperceptible, shake of the head from Alf to the others in the bar. Silently confirming what they feared.
Dennis is so bloody cute in this episode!
I have to say I would not want the cop who came to tell them about Ida giving me any bad news!!
‘Ok, let’s get it over with.’ Surely a bit more sensitivity was called for. I mean ok, he was talking to Alf, not Frank-but still!
A pity lots of episodes are missing...
I know I have said it before Aunty Corrie but being able to see these episodes just makes me so pleased.

He was the same Jed Stone
Yes she was Mary next door in the Royle Family

OK so that confirms when I saw Kenneth Cope on the street around 2010/11, I was wandering if it was the same character.. what's his connection to Carla?
I know what Jack was thinking (and why) when he said he didn’t know what he’d do without Annie. 😢😢
The end of episode one, when Alf and the policeman went into the Rovers-and you could just tell Len, Harry, Annie, Jack, Concepta and everyone knew what had happened. 😥😥😥
Lizzie Hewitt and now Ida Barlow; both neighbors cut down by a bus. May they rest in peace 😢😢😢..
It is haunting seeing Ida's lovely cared for things there and seeing the reaction of the bus driver and of the Barlow's. Almost just as bad as seeing it portrayed and probably more realistic.
How’s Frank supposed to concentrate on mending Esther’s fuse when he’s worried sick ( rightly) about Ida?
Well, now we know where Ken got his blonde hair from. Frank and Ida were dark ( I think) but Nancy Leathers ( his gran) was probably blonde ( only ever saw her in black and white, but she looks it!)
Aww poor Ida xx
I remember this
I think I watched this video 5 years ago
The actress decided to leave x
. Had no idea Alf was in corrie from the start thought he came in the show in the 70s sometime.
He was absolutely wonderful
Ty so much from NZ great fan from NZ here ❤
I never knew there was a time when Alf Roberts wasn't obese..
Well Alf wasn't a stranger to bad news so it was quite appropriate for him there to hear pc plod bluntly tell him Mrs Barlows dead, Alf always seemed to be arranging funerals, calling the undertaker etc
@@alberttatlock5237 I know he helped Hilda Ogden sort all the legal stuff for Stan’s funeral. Must’ve been to do with him being on the council.
Poor Ken swallowed with fear when he knew that his mum never made it to Mr Tatlock's daughter's.
Imagine leaving a baby in a pram outside these days? Imagine just a pram! Now kids aren’t even allowed to walk to school when they are 8 years old! Not everything changes for the better!
You think letting 8 year olds outside unattended is better!? Ok boomer.
Yes, it's sad, but if I'd have been married to Frank Barlow, I'd have thrown myself under a bus! 😂
Frank days he'll drive the bus.
Gold
I read the actress decided to leave

Sad how talking about Ken falling in the stream when he was ten naturally made Frank mention Ida, and then he couldn't carry on. 😥😥
Alexander Jones Ken makes no reference to his family now!
I never saw ken Barlows gran before this!
My Nanny Sue and Wendie remember this
Their both 70 now
Where did the Barlows live? Thought at first it was no 5 ( where Chesney, Gemma and the quads now live) with the arched fireplace, but that was where Esther Hayes lived at this point!
No. 3
From having to go to the neighbours for the phone, who'd av thought we'd all have mobiles,,
Emily's old house.
Little did they know they would all be dead in years to come - well most of them that is
william f well of course theyd know
william f no one lives for every.
Ken will be in time, as well. Everyone dies eventually.
Why couldn’t she take that crying baby indoors on such a solemn day
Oh gosh this isn't when Ida passes away is it?
I am surprised how long it took the police to deal with the road accident, the headquarters sergeant said Tile Street sent out the telex at 19.30, but it was after 21.00 when the constable phoned Tile Street to confirm Ida was dead. The headquarters sergeant still didn't know she was dead at that point, so I am assuming Tile Street would have sent another telex?
Bear in mind she’d left her purse ( with her identity card inside) at home.
@@alexanderjones9572 we don't have identity cards in England
Wasn't that blonde one around 46.00, Terrys sister in the Likely Lads
I'm not sure it's Sheila Fearn. I could be wrong.
Yeah I thought it was,,

It’s after Our Lady. The Immaculate Conception
I was always taught to do that. You put your shopping down or just stand still when a hearse passed.
That Liverpudlian guy was Ray in brookside
Had to think who you meant for a minute- it was Ray Hilton, who married Jessie Shadwick and had a mother called Kitty, played by Jean Haywood. Now there was a character!!
Thank fuck he dropped the scouse accent in later rolls. If he kept it up I think ppl would of switched off
Can’t remember what episode it was but that one guy introduced his friend to some cop. The guy wanted to rob a store full of cigarettes. What ever happened to that situation?
Late in the second episode of this double bill, you see Jed and Dennis catching up; Jed now wants to get work in Dennis's club!
@@darganx okay 👍
Where was David?
He was playing football for Weatherfield County FC.
Was Captain. Mainwaring sweet on Emily Nugent?
They almost got married once upon a time. But I think Emily called it off.
He needed a break from Elizabeth, who he was always trying to reason with in Dad’s Army.
Why did Ida Barlow get written out..can any one remember why¿?
I read somewhere she wanted out of the program .. she lived in London and didn’t like travelling so far all the time to film the tv show.
She didn't want to commit herself to a long term character. She was in fact the first original character to leave Corrie.
Has anyone got every single episode
"Go to a Funeral of a Woman you don't know how She died or any of the circumstances??"
Presumably they all did know her, just weren’t regulars in the programme like the Barlows, Esther etc.
I don’t think they did a storyline for when Ken’s nan died 😉🤷♀️
Is that Arthur Lowe with Emily?
Before 999 looking up the local police station.

Strange how Randall has been long deceased in real life, while Hopkirk is still among us!
Was that star treck chap Patrick Stewart?
Why was it so dark
Olden days it wasn’t in colour back there
Coal smoke :)
