Alnico II Pro Slash (Neck)

- When Slash was given the honor of having a Gibson Les Paul Signature model built, we sent over the same Alnico 2 Pro humbuckers that he has used for decades. Turns out, the new guitars sounded noticeably different than the original. So, we accepted the challenge to make him a new pickup that would make all of his new signature guitars sound just like the original AFD Les Paul. The result is the Slash Signature Model humbucker.
Checkout the Slash (APH-2) pickups on our website: www.seymourdun...
P.S. In case you were wondering, yes, the set that you buy is exactly the same as what Slash’s mighty tech, Ace Bergman, installs in Slash’s guitars. When the boss needs some new APH-2s, we pull them right out of production stock.

Great Gig in the Sky meets Slash tone.. Love it!
Thanks man! That's what I was going for!
Danny Young, Hello Danny.
I mainly play metal but I happen to Have this pick up for the neck position but never installed it, the thing is I play in Drop B/C, how well does this neck pick up respond in low tunings??
Danny you play like I wish I could play!
Keep rocking !
Yes.
i forgot about pick ups , performance just took my mind so intence
A Duncan JB in the bridge and an Alnico 2 pro Slash in the neck is BEAUTIFUL
Sounds like a winning combination to me!
Danny Young Mate, is there any way I could get the backing track for this? You nailed the blues on this one :D I cannot get it out of my head :p
Hari Veturi /watch?v=_zj2NZ6in6I
Best combo
Prefer the Custom 5 in that combo. JB has too much honk.
Are you David Gilmour ? Your playing is so much like his but still your own! LOVE IT!
Thank you very much! Iv always been a big fan of Gilmour as you can tell. The first soloI learned how to play was the intro to shine on so it kinda rubbed off on me (for better or worse!) Again thanks
Danny Young First one I learned was solo to Mother. Its really wierd that even though you are showing off Slash signature pickups (which are phenomenal btw bought them for my Epi Les Paul) your tone is very Gilmouresque. Do I hear a bit of satriani as well ? :D
Exactly the sound i want to hear when i see a Les Paul 👍
Great Tone, that is one of the best neck tones I've ever heard.
Thanks bro, have to thank the slash pickups for that!
Danny Young
no i think we have you to thank for that, not the pickups.dont be so damn modest, you do happen to kick guitar ass,i hope that epi was 18+
wayne smith
Thanks for that! The epi was old enough!
Ive had these pups in my Gibby LP standard for about a year now and there is absolutley no need to ever change them out. Perfect sound for soul filled blues/rock style of playing. My favorite pickups in the past 30 years of playing..
I have an epiphone LP std 60s 2020 with those pups, and its sounds amazing
That solo gave me goosbumbs
very articulate, clean when you dial back, ballsy all the way up.. the best.
I would have liked to finish watching the video but you scorched my face off with that amazing tone. Cheers!
I like all of the pick ups I have installed in my various guitars. However, today I did a side by side and directly compared the drive sound of the SD Slash ....SD Pro II.....SD 59...Gibson T Top from their custom shop, and a Curtis Novak PAF......the SD Slash won. It had the best drive sound, best clean up, balance from low end to high end, and no weird off tones or uncomfortable sounding notes. That is one bad ass pick up.
This guy is a fantastic player! Seriously!
Very impressive sound for an almost entirely stock Epiphone Les Paul. (Aside from the pickups-- OBVIOUSLY)
Such a clear cutting pickup, sounds amazing!
Great sound , style and backing track! Congratulations!
Much respect to the guitar player who ever you are, I have a feeling even if those were a $9.99 set of Chinese humbucker with kitchen magnets wound with pig intestines you would make them sound good
Some very David Gilmour-like vibes going on here at times. Love it.
+Nexus4 Google Play Sorry for the late reply...thanks!
I just installed them in my guitar. They sound amazing!! Important piece of information: they come with just one wire (live), braided with a shield (ground), please look up the schematics for that because they are not included.
Damn! i never get tired of heard this demo, it's sounds very sweet
ANTRAX343 hey thanks!!!!
This sound compliments this player so well.
Seymour Duncan JB+Alnico II pro Slash=HEAVEN
what an adorable les paul that is , looks like the ocean blue colour . i had one in my hands in the shop , loved it , doubed , but bought a honey burst , now i regret that .
im starting to like this pickup more and more in the neck position
I installed these into my Ibanez AR250 (look it up) recently. To say these pickups kick ass is an understatement - the tone is amazing, and not just at practice volumes. Plugged into a Marshall half-stack at a rehearsal studio - and blew my bassist & drummer out of the water on how good it sounded before and after, they couldn't stop talking about it, which is all I needed to know I made the right choice. Amazing presence, sustain and bite - exactly what I want in a humbucker. No boxy mud here - these babies sing.
Glad you like them!
Whoever the artist is, I think should be doing demos for Seymour Duncan more often. Next JB/Jazz, Duncan Custom/'59, Seth Lovers and finally Blackouts.
The best guitar tone ever!!!!! Creamy, soft, filled with emotion, but still wild. I love it!
These sounds great man. With a little more gain you get a sweet amount of increased sustain which just holds onto the bends.
Absolutely wonderful demo! Everything is PERFECT!!!
Well played mate!
Great feel and goddess tone!
thanks for that!
I just installed one of these in my Charvel, I knew in theory it was gonna be good but it is surprisingly good. Great tone, very enjoyable.
Maaaaan thanks a lot for that vid. I'm totally in love with that guitars sound. Best wishes and greets from Germany :-)
Definately! Really gives a good example of the range you get with these babies..
Wish there was more lighting to show off that beautiful Les Paul!!
Excellent mics .. GREAT PLAYING .. what a feeling man .... CONGRATULATIONS
This Man is a King of vibrato ! I like woody sound of this hums .
I love the neck sound, would probably want a matched set and get the Slash set for my LP clone. Sounds great here for the bluesier stuff. Sounds almost like a P90 at parts.
B.b.King AND SAUL HUDSON IN ONE TAKE!
Hnng. I had an Epi Les Paul with the same finish, but with a quilt top. Wish I could have kept it, but traded it towards an Explorer. So happy with the Explorer. I might drop one of these in the neck.
I'm thinking of combining this with a Duncan Custom in the bridge. This pup has that hot vintage sound I love.
That's a nice combo.
Hey man ! You show your soul with your amazing playing ! 👏🏻👌🏻
Thank you!
I agree, very very cool stuff! Serious tone. Cant wait to hear the bridge!
"So versatile, you're not just limited to sounding like Slash!" Very true, but unfortunately for me, they're referring to the guy playing the guitar, not the pickups. I can buy the pickups, but unfortunately, I won't be playing that lead any time soon...
David Fung hey thanks! The slash pickups really do help though! 😂
I don't know what ya'll are talking about. He may not be playing like Slash, but the tone is almost spot on.
I have an Allnico II pro in the neck of my favo Les Paul...a Pearly Gates in the bridge...perfect in every way
mont john great combination!!
mont john ive got a gibson 1992 studio from what i know it has 490r and 498t which are what it came out with can i put these alnico ii slash pickups on the neck and leave the gibson bridge pickups in the bridge or will that unbalance the sound when i play in the middle position
Maybe unbalanced? hard to tell but you won't regret losing the Gibson pickups...my 92 has an Alnico II Pro n the neck and it sustains endlessly....perhaps a Custom Custom Bridge and Slash in the neck...my other Les Paul had a Custom Custom bridge and it fl
ippin rokked...
Wow i want this!!
I have just fitted these pups in my Les Paul and they are awesome...nice playing by the way...sounds very Dave Gilmour...but on a Gibson...now that is versatile!
terrific - more to do with your playing as I suspect you could make most anything sound good!
Yes is the answer, slash pickups are versatile! Select the neck pick up, set your amp to high mids with a medium crunch on the preamp (not too high as you want to retain some of the dynamics), role back the tone a bit and play at a high enough volume to get a controlled feedback. This is commonly known as the woman tone!
Rock on Danny! really proud of you!!! nearly 205,000 views my man!!!!
Regards-Gaunty.
Thanks gaunt!
I have a pair of these installed in my rosso corsa and they are the best sounding pickups for a les paul period. No wonder they are over $200 usd.
Doesn't get much smoother than that - epic work Danny :-)
Stellar tone.
got pearly gates and custom custom, both with Alnico 2... they rule
Danny young....a great player
이상을 hey thanks!!
Does this sound like Great Gig in the Sky to anyone?
It's pretty similar, both are in G minor so. they're in the same key.
Nice lead
ayyy i love your vids
I use a epiphone les paul custom and i installed a Seymour Duncan JB on the bridge and what else can i say it's gonna stay in my guitar dor years to come Seymour Duncan is the best for me shout out from here in the Philippines :))
#SeymourDuncanLOVER
I'd like to see a demo like this for the SH-14 Custom5, one that isn't strictly heavy "high gain" guitar.
(Good job on this one BTW. Well done!) :)
xenod1066 Well noted
***** Thanks! :) I must say I've really been enjoying the recent demos, the ones for WLH, Seth Lovers, '59n, '59b, etc. They feature such nice playing, they're worth listening to on their own merits. - - If I may make a couple of additional requests; I'd really like to hear a demo of the Screamin Demon in the NECK, played clean, semi-clean, etc. - And a comparison of the STK-S2, S4, S6, S7, S9.. ;)
Good point! I think i'm going to do it as it's a good guitar and as you says has more potential
Grear tone, and great set up, don't hear anyfret buzzing... I loved the set up :)
Cheers for that!
Well done sir👏🏻💪🏻👍🤘🏻🎸🔥
Thank you! But it’s madam now 😊
@@kertackle Hey. I used to watch your Duncan demos as a kid, when I didn't have any money or job. I saved every penny I got and after like 2 years finally bought my first Duncan pup. 7 years down the line, I have stumbled back to your demos. Glad to see you have found yourself. I hope you're happy! Would love to know what you go by now.
@@SohamBhattacharya3105 oh hi! What a lovely story! I love hearing things like this! I go by Danny still, but identify as her/she etc. 😊
@@kertackle it's lovely to meet you again, Danny! Wish you all the best! 😊
@@SohamBhattacharya3105 😊
I thought of that too :)
Slash's Pickups are just great :))
Its well worth upgrading your pickups, as you can see by this video, an Epiphone can punch way above its weight with the right pickups and it will save spending mega money!
Please do a demo like this for the Screamin Demon in the neck position.
That would be so awesome! :)
xenod1066 That's definitely something we've talked about because several of us at SD HQ are fans of the Demon in the neck.
Sounds epic, love this sound
damn is this really the sound of slash pickups ? very tasty
Love how versatile they sound! cool vid!
I'm about to put one of these in a Tele with an Antiquity Tele in the bridge. Hope it balances up well!
Let us know how it sounds!
Will do Danny! It's going in a lefty thinline Tele, a surprise gift for a buddy. He's not a Slash fan, but I figure it's just a nice versatile neck pickup for lots of styles
Fantastic demo and tone.
Very nice Lead and beautiful Organ sound ( maybe Hammond or Nord Stage3)
Almost feel bad reading the comments & reading Gilmour when I'm frankly hearing Santana, but sod it, it's a beautiful tone no matter what the origin!
excellent chops original sweet
I NEED that pickup in my Les Paul... I don't like the stock neck pickup at all. And, that dude can play!
Tried my share of humbuckers in the neck position for my tele....The slash was the keeper, dont know what makes it different, but its good clean, and with overdriven sounds.
Sick.
This track has a total pink Floyd sound to it. Good job.
Thank you for such a beautiful and heart-felt improv! A quick question: am I correct noticing that your instrument is tuned a whole-step down?
Steve Akopyan thank you very much! Yes the guitar is tuned a whole step down.
amazing !!
Nice tone - I must try an alnico II magnet in my G-400's '59 neck pickup.
Alnico 2 works best for minimum drive stage like on this vid. When its on higher drive its sounds muddy a bit..
I wish the guitar was more in the mix of everything.
wow,whatta sound..
I go back and forth between these and the antiquities, i personally think the antiquities sound a little better imo after watching this vid
Sounds amazing! btw just out of curiosity do you use thin strings or do you have your guitar turned down? Theres just something about your tone everytime you play, just amazes me! Maybe its just the fingers :p
10's full step down...thanks for the kind words!
Danny Young thought there was something loose about it heheh got to try that out! do you have your own music or a band? Really like your playing and tone on the videos!
Manuel Brazuna
thanks! I do have a song out called "Meet me in the metal" which is on spotify, iTunes etc but I dont have an album or anything...you will just have to keep watching the up and coming Seymour Duncan videos for now ha ha!
Sounds more like David Guilmour than Slash. What amps do you use?
Hey thanks! I think we used a Marshall DSL 401 on this.
Are you the presenter that demoed the ssl1/ssl5? I think you played an interpretation of Shine On that was amazing. Conrgats.
F__in' awesome sound and hand!
Slash sound!!!!!!!
When Gilmour meet Slash
Rad!
Best sound
Oh, I couldn't agree more. I got that Floyd vibe myself and was instantly confused as to why this set were being demo'ed using material which is very not-Slash. Don't get me wrong, Floyd are pretty cool (not my thing though) but a strange choice for a dirty RAWK sound.
yeah you should,i loaded my Epi Les Paul Standard with an Antiquity/Jazz set and some Bourns pots and good capacitors......best thing i could have ever done honestly..
I think they wanted to show that it can do other stuff than the Slash sound, hence why they went with floyd.
I have an epi lp standard would these be a good option for an upgrade
The guitar in this demo is an Epiphone LP standard so should give you a good idea of how yours should sound...enjoy!
+Christian Taylor Yes, it will make it sound better. I have the same guitar and recently put these pickups in it. They make the guitar a bit louder and more articulate. You will definitely notice the increase in volume. It's a great upgrade from the stock pickups.
I am looking to buy a set of these to put into my Epiphone LP. But my question is, do these pick ups still have the cool splitting abilities such as the stock pickups? If so, how would I go about wiring the coil splits up?
Coil*
Braden Meade did ya figure it out?
Wish the sound of the guitar wasn't drowned out by the background music.
Would this go good with a pearly gates in the bridge?
+Catfish Connor This is a great article on Pearly/Alnico II Pro combos: www.tmrzoo.com/2014/60603/seymour-duncan-vintage-guitar-pickup
What's the name of the song ?!??
It's damn good *-*
Which pickups should I get , APH-1 or APH-2 ? I play a lot of kinds of music . For example , classic rock(Guns N Roses) , Metal(Pantera,Metallica) ,
pop , blues , and fingerstyle songs . My guitar is an epiphone custom with a thinner neck .
