  • In this video I talk about the HD Free Unlimited Indoor/Outdoor TV Antenna. It runs about $100 and claims a 100 to 200 mile range. It has virtually the same antenna design as the Marathon Plus and Antop Big Boy AT-400BVV. Is this a good antenna or just another as seen on TV scam?

I am reminded of the evening I and other technicians convinced an apprentice that a stainless steel fork made an FM antenna. There was no antenna on the receiver, so somebody stuck a fork in the antenna jack, and it worked, 10 miles from Hartford. Our rationale was that it wasn't the size that mattered, but the material. It was a rare type of metal.

Thanks for this. My neighbor just asked me to help her setup her Magnavox antenna that makes the same claims (amplified signal, 4K HDTV, insane distance). I had been wondering about how legit these things are after I unplugged the power supply and there was no change *at* *all* in the signal strength. I had expected the signal to drop out completely.

Just bought an antenna just like that ( one of the Andtop big boy models) and just set it INSIDE my house next to my tv and was surprised how well it works. I had a Mohu Glide that picked up 38- 43 depending on the weather and the Andtop picked up 54 right away. I am in the Baltimore area and with this it seems to be able to pick up a few of the DC channels that the Mohu struggled with.

AntennaMan - You'd be proud of me. We lost cable during the recent tropical storm (Isaias) out here, east of NYC, about 30 miles away. I made my own "4k high definition digital 1080/720 compatible" /sarc antenna with a few yards of 20 gage solid copper wire. I fashioned it into four dipole elements, three in the range of 9" to 10 1/2" (half wave for UHF 24 to 40) and one 32" (half wave VHF 7 for WABC). Clipped it to the curtain rod in the living room (window has fiberglass screen). Bent the wires of each to form an "arrow" of about 30 degrees and pointed it toward the transmitters in lower Manhattan. For the larger ABC element (VHF), I bent the wire to point the arrow a bit more north to get their transmitter in Times Square. I didn't add a reflector since it'd get too unwieldly for a living room fixture. Ran it thru a 300-75 ohm transformer and coax to the TV. I got 35 digital channels (lots of multicasts) - crystal clear and stable. Later on, I got one of those junk ClearTV mousepad things to see if it'd do better than my Frankenstein antenna. In the same exact location, it got 22 channels. VHF totally disappeared. I wanted to share this to reaffirm that you are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. Antennas are just pieces of metal and the size of elements - and the location of the antenna - determines what channels you get.

The farther stations only are reliable in humid weather with considerable cloud cover. I am going to buy an (amplified) antenna you recommended when I have the extra money. I will also mount it in the attic.

What can I say.... "As-Seen-on-TV" trinkets usually don't have a great performance.... probably a "Gotham copper pan" would pick up a better signal. lol While many folks don't realize that you can stream a bunch of free 4k channels through sites or apps like Pluto-TV, or low cost Philo, etc.

    • @1redrubberball
      @1redrubberball 3 роки тому

Over-hyping is correct, and one of the truly meaningless statistics they offer up on their antenna is the diameter of the coverage area. The radius of the circle would have some meaning since the antenna is at the center of the circle, but the diameter is meaningless bull....!

This model of antenna brought in NO channels more than 30 miles away. I live in a relatively flat area of Texas and it brought in a total of 16 stations - on it's best day. My 8 year old Clearstream brought in 22-26 channels - in the same attic location. So I returned this one for a refund.

You can build one hell of an antenna out of just a wood broom stick and some mettle clothes hangers for under $5.00. Hell I have transmitted to the ISS with this type of antenna built for the 144 to 148 MHz band. The most expensive part of the build is the coax cable, (75 Ohm 50 Ohm if you are going to transmit) and the UV protective calking. The expression, "A fool and their money are soon parted" comes to mind when I see this.

You didn't show whether or not it works as this is what consumers need to see. This is what I have to see for me to know a person did their homework on the product in question. Please show the results of allowing watchers to see for themselves. Thanks 👍

I don't trust them at all. Junk antennas.

The only television I have, believe it or not, is old analog style. it's great. It has RCA game inputs in the front for audio and video, and I use it for old style all-in-the-controller video games. What would I need to get a digital TV broadcast on that thing? I have no antenna. I looked at Antennaweb.org and it says there are 3 yellow stations in my area. Thanks!

Do you have ATSC 3.0 on FTA satellite TV in USA???, or just on Satellite, for example from Canada or encrypted TV broadcast?
As I have understood ATSC can be for any technology: terrestrial, satellite, cable.
But has it beed deployed in satellite broadcast yet????
Do you in USA receive DVB-S2 channels, or also satellite in ATSC????
Do you have any Hybrid Tv standard both on Satellites and Terrestrial???

Antman, question. I want to install my clear stream 2 outside on my gable, about 17' up. It is next to my pool cage which is aluminum and is grounded, can I ground this antenna to my pool cage. #2. I have 5 bedroom and the run from the antenna to the furthest bedroom is 60 feet how can I connect them all. I saw the channel master splitter in one of your videos. Should I get that or can I hook directly into the old cable splitter that feeds every room?

I cannot comment on grounding advice. Consult with a local electrician.

I just opened up the circuit for the amplifier in a "Free 4K HD Unlimited" Magnavox antenna and was surprisedto see that it has less than 99¢ worth of parts inside of it. The input signal connects to only three components: a 10 Henry coil goes to +5V DC; a 1 nF capacitor goes to the output; and a 1A diode also goes to the output. That's it!
It seems the inductor is the only thing that could plausibly be amplifying the signal, since the other two are filters, but I don't know much about RF. @AntennaMan, have you opened up these gizmos? It this typically how an antenna amplifier works?

tyler can i have video suggestion dvb-t2 (european) vs atsc 3.0 (american) and dvb-t vs atsc 1.0
it might be usefull for toruists that might use portable tvs in hotels etc
and if dvb-t2 is better or atsc 3.0 in benefits
    example
dvb-t is not fragile while atsc 1.0 is fragile
    etc u get it

Introducing the 1,000,000 mile indoor/outdoor 4K TV antenna. It has Bluetooth connection and wi-fi. It captures the signal from many miles of the broadcast tower. Please don’t ask us how it does it, it does what it does.
