I just did this on a Range Rover Classic. I considered buying new upholstery, doing a full leather restoration, etc. This came out great. Almost unbelievably so. It also took some of the hard patina off the seat and made it seem years younger and softer. I think I spent $20 or so and an hour of time.
Great to hear John! Thank you so much for watching and sharing your sweeeeet results we really appreciate it, hope you have a fantastic week. mad Mike
@@SweetProjectCarsHey mate, would cleaning these seats after doing this be the same as how you would do it before?
Im a professional detailer and all I can say is damn. I wish I would have done this about 8 hours ago before I started this restoration job on leather seats. He bypassed the whole waiting process and its cost efficient. Folks he is absolutely correct. It doesnt change texture. The lacquer thinner acts as a cleaner and paint promoter mixed with new paint and this technique causes it to blend instead of changing the texture on the substrate. Good job man!!! Why didnt I think of this
I agree, this gentleman is terrific!
I suppose what's key is the color match..for 30m of work I gotta say its impressive. I use lacquer thinner all the time to clean paint. So many shy away from it. Gotta know how to use it. I think it would be good to experiment first to get comfortable with the process. I have professionally dyed leather and replaced too. I'm gonna def try this out even if just out of curiosity. One thing I know for sure. If the leather has worn to a suede texture no amount of dye or blending will change that. Thanks for the tip.😊
@@erniepatai6644 I have been doing this method since I've seen his techniques. Takes a little practice. Not much. You will have the process down after the first seat or try as we all tend to overthink things on out first run. It saves money but i only do it for quick repairs or small jobs. Not an entire seat. It comes out a little to shiny for my liking versus oem. Painting or reupholstering the seat is always the best. Just time consuming and some customers can't or won't pay for that type of job. But it's a great method for customers on a budget or your cheaper cars. Not recommended for high end vehicles.
Can I use leather dye with lacquer thinner? Or does it have to be paint for this method?
@@angrycabbie1 Can I use leather dye with lacquer thinner? Or does it have to be paint for this method?
After watching a professional leather person restore a seat with his special products that cost a lot of money, it was clear that he was doing exactly what you did for almost nothing. He went on and on about it. but you came to the point in minutes.
Another great video.
The only thing he had in his "toolbox", was a filler for cracked leather. A filler.
@@andrewdomenitzdmd Then he wasn't a professional.
Thank you everyone else video 30 min...he right to the point
This technique is NO bulls**t! It worked like magic on my 2000 BMW 323! I did this to all of my seats with rustoleom camouflage beige color spray paint. The armrests and everything are pretty much brand new! Thanks so much for this tutorial, I am a new subscriber! ❤️
glad we could help Gabby
How do the seats feel? Any different before and after the paint?
@@morganmartinelli1219 feel great, just like brand new seats, slightly smoother than before to be honest.
@@nativebabe9913 how is it holding up?
Give it a shot Robert try it for yourself you’ll see the amazing results you got nothing to lose and all the gain
Just implemented this procedure to address some scuff marks on my leather motorcycle seat. Worked like a charm. Great video!
My seats aren't even cracked but I had to see how this turned out! Looks awesome!
thank you
thank you
Lol I don't even have leather seats and still had to see.

Santos Banuelos I don't have a donkey. I have a potato but I had to see also.
Wow ! Ifollowed this video and my 23 years old Audi A8 just got brand new light grey leather seats. THANKS from Denmark.

Leo Zingenberg Just one thing, how did u get rid the thinner strong odor?
I use thinner for regular paint ,it has a really devastating odor.
Really don’t understand people who hit the dislike button.. why on earth you would do that..a guy gives you a cheap easy solution to restore you leather seats... strange!
Rafi Peled there are just many jealous people out there...they get upset that they did not think of it. thank you for being here with us my friend :)
Maybe the people that hit dislike didn't like the technique and thought it came out shitty. This "cheap and easy" fix looks like a cheap and easy fix in the end. I guess people that look down on the finished look don't consider this is a ten dollar investment...not a one hundred dollar investment.
minuteskill you are very correct it was a 10 dollar fix and we have done it 100's of times and it works perfect, those who would not like it we found are just skeptical by nature and some were mad they never thought of such an easy cheap permanent fix.
@@SweetProjectCars does the paint fade or come off over time?
Wouldn't want my nice linen pants getting stained red.
Haters gotta hate. Just glad I'm not "that" guy. would suck to be them.
Your videos are always short , sweet and to the point. I haven't seen a video of yours yet that hasn't been applicable to most everyday people! Thanks for everything!
I just did this to my 04 xc90. Your technique worked better then the leather dye I had. I applied a bit of the thinner first to remove remnants of shoe dye that someone put on seats to hide the wrinkles. Over time it wore off/discolored. It stood out as a bad dye job. I also removed blue jean dye that got on side of seat. Then dyed seats per your vid. They look great now! Husb thought I was destroying seats. Showed him your vids. Now he's hooked. Lol.
Excellent. I'm a small dealer and mechanic. Painting leather is a pain. This is a much quicker way to present a vehicle if you have to move it fast or in general. Got a new trick in my arsenal. Just used it on my 2000 Silverado and have a nice new set of front leather seats. Only 125k on that baby. Thanks man.
All the dislikes come from detailing shops lol

@@SweetProjectCars I have a general motors leather , vinyl, plastic refinisher spray paint .. would this work , I have leather cashmere seats in my escalade
100% agree with you, and I'm in the "trade" :)
Yet another brilliant tip.. I’ve always used duplicolor vinyl paint in a rattle can, which works if the color matches perfectly. But for the other 9 out of 10 times that it doesn’t match perfectly, this looks like the way to go. Thanks for the tip
This totally worked for my 2001 SAAB leather.
First I brush the leather dye on. Then I use the Lacquer Thinner to smooth it out.. Then I apply a leather conditioner. Final step is to use a leather balm.
100% works. Thank you very much !!!
Wow! great job. I've tried everything from shoe polish to magic marker on my black leather but nothing beats your method for quick, inexpensive and high quality results. Thank you.
Thank you Chris we truly appreciate that my good friend
I went on youtube looking to find the best leather restore product and found this video .. Wow!! I did this with Rustoleum flat black paint with the thinner and the seats look new... super easy and it works! Thank you!!

I wrote a while back asking about this technique and a suede leather couch.i finally got around to doing it and it worked like a charm!!!the couch looks brand new!! I want to thank you for the great videos you make I watch all of them!
Gus thank you very much and we are glad it helped you and we are very glad to have you here with us :)
I have to tell you, I've done your technique on my 2005 325i BMW on my gray interior with Satin Granite Rust-Oleum 2X Painters Touch Paint and Primer with the same brand "paint" thinner you used because I didn't have the "lacquer" thinner. I watched this video, and then followed with the black leather and your other tan/beige leather video. I used Surf City Garage Voodoo Blend Leather Rejuvenator that I saw in another video...AH'MAZING RESULTS!!! I am restoring my BMW. This technique is actually good enough for restoration projects. It absolutely does not rub off on your clothes or your rag after you use your leather conditioner. You are a wizard! Thanks so much for your videos. People are flipping out over my before and after results! I tell everyone about you. I wish we could show you pictures! I do wear gloves...lol. I even did a little sanding on my seats and armrest. This technique still gave full professional coverage. It's flexible and durable. 😎👍
thank you so much, Mandy and we are very happy it worked for you...

Is rustolium a rust or regular paint. Im not in the US i cant find the brand
I'm looking forward to your answer. Can I use a regular car paint in spray or it has to be oil-base ?
Yes, paint thinner of the same brand.
It's a multi-purpose paint. It is, however, awesome for rust prevention as well.
Just watching some of your old videos....That's plain nuts! My daughter is going to love me (at least for a bit) when I restore her leather seats in her Forester.
Every video I watch just boosts your amazing status up a notch Dan!
Oh, and I've been using 303 for probably 10 yrs. With your advice I'm using it in many more ways.
Ok one last thing. I've been looking at used cars and now I know that leather seats in this condition are not an issue and can be easily recovered.
Leonardokite thank you very much for your very kind comments and you are correct on the 303 we use it on everything :)

Man! I just finished the seats in my Harley Davidson F150...I was pretty worried about trying this technique, but it looks AMAZING! Like new! Thanks so much for showing this procedure. I didn't use spray paint though, I went to a local body shop and had them mix me half a litre of paint, using the Ford paint code. I did pour some lacquer thinner in it when on the cloth as you did, perfect match. Thanks again!

HKMediaChicago yes my son says the same thing, but now he is addicted to the city, and I may just take you up on the beers :) thanks so much !!
Another amazing video!! That is incredible!👍
You very much Miss Elmyra I truly appreciate that it makes all the hard work doing these videos well worth it have a great night my dear
I feel so conflicted! But the results speak for themselves! Once leather goes you might as well do this until it starts ripping open. Good job!
José you are correct if the people who own this car would have used this amzn.to/2jCHktN the seats would still look new today.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience! I have always fixed my stuff myself and your videos are really informative.
nitrowrench79 we are sure glad we can help and very happy to have you here with us :)
Glad I found this. Gonna purchase a used 2003 Honda Accord coupe that is near perfect condition except the worn black leather seats with all the cracks in color. Gonna def do this asap to make it all come together

Just did this yesterday on my 1994 Mustang Cobra. It wasn't working at first, then I realized I needed to reapply a good amount of lacquer thinner to the towel for each pass.
Worked great, and thank you so much for showing the method.
Nice work! Glad to help. Have a great day. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Do you have saddle color leather on your mustang? If so what color and brand paint did you use?
