  • Today, I am sharing the top violin tips and lessons I learned from my years studying with Mr. Lorand Fenyves (1918-2004) at the University of Toronto.
I count myself fortunate to have been one of Mr. Lorand Fenyves' many pupils throughout my studies at the University of Toronto as well as summers spent at the Banff Centre for the Arts and the Orford Arts Centre in Canada.
Mr. Fenyves left behind generations of many loving disciples on multiple continents and the Globe and Mail named him “one of the greatest violin teachers in the world” (February 20, 1998).
To hear more of Mr. Fenyves’ stories told to me in my lessons, check out the original podcast interview @ViolinLessonsOnline: • Lynn Kuo Violinist E2 S2

Aww, it's true. I have so many stories to share of Mr. Fenyves. Please ask me next time I see you in a lesson or Bootcamp class, Michelle!
I have stories that range from him accepting a casual invitation to 'jam' with jazz legend Phil Nimmons, to him letting me try his Strad in my lesson, to him hating my rebel black nail polish. I was so mortified, I wanted to crawl into a hole! 😅

As a new student, I can understand about practicing too quickly. Slowing things down, scale runs for example, has made a huge difference in my practice quality. Using a metronome really helps with this.
It does take discipline though. So I keep reminding myself speed means nothing without accuracy!
