    Thanks Michael for your contribution. You are a professional instructor, detail oriented. You already draw everything on the board, so you do not waste time drawing. You get all the instructions delivered in a few minutes......thanks again.

    hi i am just wondering does it mean for r=acos3theata it would be 360/3 to find location of first petal and a petal every 120 degrees whilst for r=asin3theata it would be 90/3 to find the location of first petal and then 360/3 that theres a petal every 120 degree? thank you so much these videos are so helpful

      That is a good way of putting it. Did you see video # 16 in the playlist?

  • @michelef406
    @michelef406 5 років тому +1

    You did a really good job explaining the pattern, but there's something about the frame of reference that is messing me up badly.
    At 5:10 you can see that for teta = 120 the value of r is equal to -3. How can we say that a radius in the top left quadrant is negative? Which is the convention underpinning a polar plane graph?

    • @MichelvanBiezen
      @MichelvanBiezen  5 років тому +1

      If r is negative in polar coordinates, then you simply draw the point in the opposite direction (add 180 degrees)

    • @michelef406
      @michelef406 5 років тому

      @@MichelvanBiezen Shouldn't I draw the point in the 4th quadrant then? 120 + 180 = 300 that's why I can't get this

    On the last one, where did that 13 degrees come from ??

    • @MichelvanBiezen
      @MichelvanBiezen  9 місяців тому +2

      When theta = 13 (12.85) degrees, 7 x 12.85 = 90 degrees cos (90) = 0

    360 degrees and 0 degrees do not equal each other (aren't the same angle) they have the same terminal point

    what determines the width of the leaves?? and thank you for your lectures

    • @MichelvanBiezen
      @MichelvanBiezen  6 років тому +1

      When you plot points (like you do with an x-y graph), using the r and theta coordinates the shapes are an automatic result of the relationship between r and theta of the function being graphed.

    • @Bearfair
      @Bearfair 6 років тому +1

      so if i understood that correctly, I should divide the theta by 4 and that will tell me the width right?

    • @MichelvanBiezen
      @MichelvanBiezen  6 років тому +1

      Now I understand the question. Finding the width (in angle) can be tricky. There are several examples in the playlist that show you how to do that. (The width depends on the number of leafs).
