I think we are forgetting a major factor as to why the sales were bad this year. People cannot trust their purchase after they gutted several ships years after release. I get it "alpha" and all that, but you'd be surprised at the damage they did when nerfing and temoving features from producs already sold. Brand trust is already one thing, purchase security fears will most deffinetly affect sales.

Quick note regarding PVP, I think if they just ignore it, a lot of it will die off on its own. CIG just dropped a lawless system and people have an itch to scratch. Rep will of course help, but so will plain ole time.

The talk about contested zones and death of a space man. I think either death of a space man should matter like it would any where else, or you should only have access to the area x amount of times per reset. If it comes down to, die, rez and put new gear on. Run in, die and do it all over again. It kind of defeats the purpose of putting a strong group together just to have to kill the same enemy player 50 times. Especially with every reset of the contested zone(weekly, monthly or when ever) everyone and thier mother is going to show up day 1 of the area reseting. Say there are 70 players going in. How can a player make it to the end if there is always 69 players chasing them. If dying in the CZ matters people will think and prep before they go in. If it's infinite lives it's about who has the most money

A work around I could see with contested zones and death of a spaceman, would be to have your DNA degredation based on distance from where you die to where you respawn.
So if you have your respawn set at Ruin station and you die there, theres no loss, but if your spawn is in stanton, you would get some loss.
This also creates a greater need to have ships with a med bed to respawn you if you're out far from a hospital, and also prevent cheesing fast travel with backspacing, as the further you are the more degradation you get.

I 100% disagree with CIG making less money this year than last being due to less interest in the game. The economy has been getting worse every year since covid and we are straight up seeing less money being spent on entertainment thanks to the cost of necessities. If people had money to spare they would have bought more from CIG. When we have a 17%-20% increase in food costs alone, that becomes much more important than games.
On the 4.0 release subject, I say they release it bugs and all. If they hold back now it will be February or March before we see it. And for what, to fix the bugs we are already seeing in the PU? The game is buggy, they need to push out the content and do their best to fix it as they go, and at the same time add in new features. The game is always going to break as long as they add new things to it. And people will always b!tch about it. I'd rather fight bugs and get the game further along in development.

They literally have 30% less new players money this year and 50% less than in 2022. The fact that total funding is only 10% less comparing to 2023 is because marketing team were able to squeese a bit more money from old players. So ironic ))

People really need to understand that we will NOT be "spreading out" in the future. In fact, we'll be seeing way more of each other. It's pretty simple math.
They're doubling the gameworld size by adding a second system with Pyro (2x), but wayyy more than doubling the player cap by raising it to 500 (5x). 500 split across 2 systems means 250 players per system vs the 100 we have now. 250 > 100 right? Right. So more players per system, not less.
This has always been the plan, it's what they are currently doing, and they're just getting started. This whole "spreading out" thing ain't happening.

So (I had the Rescue Cutlass) I opened the back door and backed up to him to get him heal... he didn't move so I started to go to him to try to help, and the second I left my ship (unarmed) he kills me the gets up, runs in my ship & hits the self destruct. His excuse was, he said hi and I didn't say hi back so he took me as a threat ( I don't have a mic. But I left the rescue ship Unarmed...) that was the closest to a settlement i ever got to seeing for myself :(

I think the miscommunication right now is that a lawless system should NOT be a system with absolutely no consequences. The systems to provide consequences are not working, so taking advantage of that is against the terms of service. Yes, these systems will come back later, but banning people for spawn camping and stuff like that is NOT overreacting.

Monthly updates and playtests?! Mike that's insane. Talk about the quickest way to burn out your dev team.
I get the idea of closing the doors to just work on the game, but like 1 new playtest a year would be much more realistic. Tie that in with a big sale for next year's funding. They could still do monthly video updates and sell things on the store throughout the year of course.
I think they should do that with 4.0. Release it, get it very stable, then close the doors for a while to just develop. Run PTU tests when you need to test something, but don't integrate it into the live environment.

Because, while still alpha, it is sort of also a released live service game, and people play it as such, and play it regularly. Also not everything will be found by release, the longer you can hold onto information the longer you have an advantage over the other players and orgs you're competing against.
So while some people, like you and me, see SC as still an alpha in testing and maybe not worth getting too invested in, others are just enjoying it as it is now, and playing regularly. I kind of get their point too, as we don't know if/when the game will collapse, so might as well play it as a "released" game now.
